Laura Bush shops, dines during her trip to Atlanta

Former First Lady Laura Bush, in town for a book signing at the Buckhead Barnes and Noble store this week, made time for shopping and a little Southern comfort food during her time in Atlanta.

Mrs. Bush, who greeted hundreds of fans at the signing for her new memoir, “Spoken From the Heart,”  stopped into a few antiques shops on Miami Circle in Buckhead, accompanied by a friend and her security detail, Buzz hears from a well-placed source.

After her visit to the book store, she dined at South City Kitchen in Midtown. She enjoyed the evening’s special, which was pan-seared Georgia mountain trout with summer squash-mirliton gratin, roasted tomato jam, arugula, lemon and extra virgin olive oil, as well as a side of succotash.

We understand she arrived about 8 p.m. and was seated at a table on the patio – not a private dining room. She was accompanied by Secret Service personnel, who feasted on burgers.

Mrs. Bush was joined by former U.S. Sen. Sam Nunn. Southern cuisine enjoys bipartisan support, you know.

I agree Ron. I have always thought that she was by far one of, if not the, best First Lady we have ever had. Additionally, while I don’t agree with all of his opinions, Sen. Nunn is one of the few Democrats that I have any respect for at all. He is a classy Gentleman.

I LOVE Laura Bush. She was the best First Lady we have ever had. Her efforts to reduce gang violence have worked wonders. Urban youth can relate to her. When kids think about joining gangs, they think “would Laura Bush approve of this” and they choose not to join the gang.

The second best First Lady was Nancy Reagan. Before Nancy Reagan, people did drugs. Then Mr. Drummond had her tell Arnold, Kimberly, and Willis to “Just Say No” and so they didn’t do drugs.

@Lynn Educator — You’re entitled to your opinion but declaring only Democrats as good and only Republicans as bad makes you look a bit too eager, sister. Kind of like when FLO (first lady obama) said she never had a reason to be proud of the US until we elected her husband.

Your bias is showing.

What has the current first lady done? Plant a garden? How can you say she is the best first lady when she is only a year into it. She wants to curb obesity, but statistics show obesity is still on the rise. L Bush worked with many children for prevention of gang activity and also literacy in the schools.

‘Lynn Educator’????, I ask, what is so spectacular about YOU? I don’t know who or WHAT you are ‘educating’, or to put it more correctly, pretending to, but to use the word dingy and Laura Bush in the same sentence is pathetic! I feel she is one of the classiest and kind ladies, period, not to mention First Lady. Her behind the scenes work for victimized women and her quest to transfer her love for reading to eveyone else is outstanding and heart warming. Just because Obama, she probably contracted it from her husband, likes to be the center of attention and see how much of other peoples time she can waste, trying to ‘paint and dress up the old barn’, doesn’t make her anything but appearing to think she is a movie star, not to say, even that is commendable. I guess you would say she is ‘trying’, and poorly, to imitate Jackie Kennedy, who was also a very classy lady. The left wing- nut press, bows and scrapes at her feet, how sickening! Before I would go around crticizing the likes of Mrs. Bush, I think I would look around my own doorsteps! That should keep you busy for the next ten years!

Oh come on folks. No need to compare one First Lady to another. As far as I am concerned, most all of our First Ladies have done wonderful things during their tenures. They have been gracious in light of the nastiness of politics they have to live with each and every day. Many of them raising children, in addition to their duties as First Lady. I think they all deserve respect and accolades, regardless of their husband’s party affiliation.

I dont know how much of the Drugs Windbaugh Kool Aid you people have been drinking but this woman has no class, if she did she would have stood Dubya up at the altar. She enjoyed the house special last night did she? How many people who went hungry yesterday because hey had their jobs shipped overseas by Dubya? How many people went hungry yesteday because they spent every cent they had on Medical bills? How many people lost their homes and life savings due to the deregulation her husband granted to the banks & lending institutions. Hey “classy lady” why dont you take that $ youre making on your book deal and donate it to the middle class you $crewed the 8 years your party ran our country into the ground? You want a good example of a good first lady then look at Elanor Roosevelt. She actually helped the poor and needy during and after her her husbands administration instead of making huge amounts of money on a book deal and subsequent book signing tour like your Laura Bu$h. Perhaps she would be better served writing a book about landscaping. Because as everyone knows theres plenty of dirt surronding a Bu$h. Classy First Lady? LMAO!

I was not a fan of the Bush presidency for many, many reasons. That said, our current and former presidents and their families remain representatives of this country and should be shown proper respect regardless of whether you agree with their policies or not. By all means, vote against the ones you disagree with, but it’s not appropriate to belittle their spouses (Nancy and Hillary were particularly pilloried) or make nasty and inapprpriate signs about them (like painting Obama as a tribal warrior, for instance).

By that rationale, Laura Bush deserves our respect, and she has always appeared to be the model of class and graciousness. So even though I voted against her husband twice, I hope that she had a nice visit to Atlanta, enjoyed the food at South City Kitchen, and had some nice conversations with polite Atlantans. She’s been through a lot over the last decade and I’m sure she’s got some good stories and insight. And, she just seems like a nice person.

Lynn Educator is teaching your children. Be afraid……… very afraid. Talk to your kids each day to set them straight about the propaganda with which the public school system tries to brainwash them. Mine, I am proud to say, understand that our first seven presidents made a far greater contribution to this nation than Che Guevara and Cesar Chavez. They know that the jury is still out on man-made climate change and that nations cannot spend themselves rich (i.e.: The War on Poverty, The Great Society, and The New Deal). My kids didn’t learn any of this from Lynn Educator or any other public school propagandist our tax dollars are wasted on.
