Tyler Perry a victim of credit card fraud

Tyler Perry is telling fans in a message posted on his Web site that he’s been ripped off by a credit card thief.

“Some idiot stole my credit card number,” he says in the message. “Can you believe that? Take a look at all the stuff they charged. If you know any of these people, call the police.”

Perry then lists a detailed accounting of the thief’s escapades, which total more than $28,000. Whoever boosted the number bought airline tickets – lots of airline tickets – along with goods at Best Buy, Lowe’s, movie tickets, clothing from online retailers and more. The most recent activity was on May 4, when the thief made an online purchase of $200. The purchases appear to have taken place in various locations, including a $105 expenditure on May 1 at a Decatur movie theater.

Perry, who has been on tour with his stage presentation of “Madea’s Big Happy Family,” doesn’t speculate on how his credit card number was stolen in the message.

Don’t the card companies have fraud alerts? It seems to me they should have called Tyler when the card was being used excessively.

This man is worth millions of dollars, and he’s VERY generous….why would $28k tip off the credit card company??

@WTF? 28K is probably not enough to cause a fraud alert. He probably uses that much in a week…..it’s an inside job by either an employee or some ding-dong at the airline…hope they catch them.

i would say he deserved it. from what im told he treats people that work for him on his hideous mansion, etc like dirt.. Throwing employees laptops across the room. C’mon give me a break. and then all you hear is how caring and grateful he is. also hear he had lunch served to him at his desk and the person put a side dish on the wrong side of the place mat and he yelled and fired him right there on the spot. Give people a chance. Your a loser, and most of the class in atlanta would agree with me.

Hey $28,000 is a big deal, even for Tyler Perry. It’s good to know he’s at least has updated accounting info to know about the recent purchases. That’s how a lot of celebrities lost that money, by getting so rich they didn’t have good people watching the money ALL the time, not just at tax time.

@worst addition to Atl

Just like you said “as you heard.” So you’re condemning him for something you heard through the grapevine. Don’t you think he would have been put on blast in the media if what you said were true? That says a lot about you. BTW, he has given plenty of people a chance. He’s given college students majoring in Mass Media at my alma mater a chance to break into the industry. He’s given the community in which his studio sits a chance by bringing business to the neighborhood. He’s given Black actors a chance when Hollywood would outright ignore them. Take care.

Just happened to me this week at an upscale kids boutique in Boston. I’ve never been up north in my life!!! The bank said it was manually entered in too. My charge was only for $178.88 though. Sucks that it happens to anybody.

They charged all that – how long did it take them to do that? Why did he not know sooner? If someone steals my stuff I pick up on it pretty quick. If they did all that in a 24 hour period I would be surprised. Mr Perry – watch your stuff a little closer. My advice – keep your friends close and your enemies closer. You’ll find ‘em… you got Madea in ya’ ;0

@ Voice of Reason

Yea, but people who donate usually write checks. And also for small ticket items. Why would you charge all these things and pay interest when you don’t have to? People who KEEP money usually have good spending habits. Too many purchases in a short amount of time should at least cause the bank to call. I bet they did and couldn’t get him.

People, it does not matter if you have $1.00 in the bank or $100 million in the bank. If you earned it, honestly, it’s yours,No one has the right to take what is yours. And again no matter how much you have or how much was stolen, you still feel violated. Yes,it has happened to me.

$28k is a NORMAL spending day for this guy. No wonder it didn’t trigger any fraud alerts. He probably spends that much before lunch on most days. As for the racist joke, it’s easy to get a pass when white people are the brunt of the joke. If it was the other way around, Jesse and Sharpton would already be having press conferences condemning what was said…And that’s what is truly sad…

Cyberdetective

First, any cyber thief will say to never purchase arline tickets online. You have to provide personal information in order to purchase tickets, and also provide identificaton to receive your boarding pass. You notice that all airline purchases on this list has names associated with them. The second set of Delta tickets indicate that he has first and last names, but chooses to only identify men by thier first name and last initial.

The other charges are just random charges and none of that is helpful to find the individuals who did it. But maybe they are just random charges thrown in to make it seem that there were more to this than just these men flying around the country.

Second, it’s obvious that he has the first and last names of those who purchased the tickets? Some list first name and last initial, and some list first initial, and complete last name. Seems like a concious decision, and why would you want to protect the privacy of these individuals who are obviously criminals and are being searched for by the police?

Third, cyber criminals usually charge a lot of small amounts because if you overexceed the daily spending limit it will activate the banks security. So obviously if they are spending 7,000 on one purchase they had to know that it was under the limit of the card.

Fourth, why would you post this information? Why not just say my card was stolen? Why list purchases and names? Could it be that Tyler is trying to head off some negative publicity coming his way. Possibly deny someone’s claims by simply saying his card was stolen? Or could it be that he did not report this to the police at all?

Maybe he is just letting his “friend” know that he knows he used his card and if he comes out, he will press charges against him.

Trust me, where there is smoke there is fire…

@Reginald d denning you are so ignorant just because he has money does that makes it right? Tyler worked his azz off for what he has, rich as white ppl ok but look @ what he went through to get there. Its a darn shame people go to work to buy things they have for a lazy good for not a darn thing to come and take it.

@ jd2010,
nope, your incorrect. I heard, because the person that saw this go down, told me.. Meaning i heard him tell me. and of course he has given people a chance in the matter of charities and giving to foundations but what about the people that work for him and make small mistakes, etc. nothing to be fired over. You prob have seen his movies and read about him, you might not even be from atl, but i am, and i hear about the way he treats people. Having alot of money has gotten to his head, just look at his house. not that it matters but who needs a damn gold plated toilet in thier bathroom, pleeease… i guess you defend him bc he backs your “alma mater” good for you, nobody else cares. if it helps you sleep at night then keep it up. Your still a loser and prob still learning how to use the computer your sitting in front of.
