California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, in town for Emory’s commencement exercises on Monday, made the most out of his trip here.
(Click here for a gallery of photos from his appearance at Emory.)
We hear he enjoyed plenty of Southern hospitality and a bit of the local VIP scene, attending an exclusive “cigar party” Sunday night hosted by Kirk Posmantur, head of Axcess Luxury & Lifestyle. Local notables in attendance included Mayor Kasim Reed, Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle, Woodruff Foundation president Russ Hardin and Rutherford Seydel, part owner of the Thrashers and Hawks.
On Monday, after inspiring the new graduates at Emory, The Governator dined at Tuk Tuk, the elegant Thai restaurant in the Brookwood Place shopping center, at a luncheon hosted by Georgia State University President Mark Becker. That crowd included Hardin, Ann Lally of After-School All-Stars and Atlanta Bloomberg bureau chief Anita Sharpe.
Ah-nold stayed at the swank new Loews Hotel in Midtown during his time here.

Arnold …I know many residents of your state who say it’s in the worst financial shape ever. If you want to BE a governor….then govern instead of flying around like you’re still an actor.
Or maybe you’re still an actor pretending to be a governor.
Either way……Cali-forn-a is a mess.

Dear Sam, I asked about that and you’re correct. Gov. Perdue did not attend. Not sure why. Of course, it was Mother’s Day, after all.
Dear Todd, you’re correct! Thanks.

Todd, where is there any reference to Brookhaven in that article? Impressive reading comprehension.

Sonny didn’t attend because he was too busy trying to figure out more ways to screw the taxpayers of Georgia over; besides California’s budget problems are worse than Georgia’s so Sonny figured he would be lowering himself socially to be seen with Arnold. He sees Arnold as being beneath him, nothing more than a lowly individual.

Dear EJ,
Check out this story from my colleagues Ariel Hart and James Salzer, showing Gov. Perdue got personally involved in a DOT project for a road in his hometown, which a former DOT commissioner called “highly unusual.” Here is the link:

@ Hal (9:39) – you’re not to bright, are you?
The article had obviously ORIGINALLY stated that Tuk Tuk was in Brookhaven. Todd at 9:08 then commented that it should be Brookwood Place instead. Then Jennifer (the writer) at 9:29 acknowledged Todd’s comment as being correct – and then edited the piece to now say “Brookwood Place” instead of “Brookhaven.”
Do you always have to have the obvious spelled out for you?
Todd does have “impressive reading comprehension,” however you have no clue as to how articles get edited.

Jennifer,
In reference to your response to the foul mouthed “EJ,” rather than seeking out another’s work to clandestinely make a point about your political agenda, why don’t you simply show some courage and just state: ” I agree with you, EJ, because like you I am a flaming liberal!”
Many readers like me may not agree with you, but at least we will respect you!

BINGO Tim @ 8:42! He was elected by the people of California to run their state. Why would anyone care to listen to a speaker who is running the mess that’s called the state of California? I’m not so sure there’s anything to brag about there. I’m sure the people in that state are glad to know that things are obviously under control in his opinion, as he has time to prance around the country giving speeches. Pathetic what we have let our politicians become. We only have ourselves to blame though. As for Sonny being crooked,…..well, he is an elected official, isn’t he?

Dear Larry,
I didn’t find EJ to be foul mouthed (we block the posts that are. you should see them. oh, my aching retinas). I did, however, think he might be interested in the latest news about Gov. Perdue, since he mentioned him. No political point was intended.

@ tim and Who cares? – Seriously? Just because the guy is a Governor you think he should stay put in his state and never travel?
Stupid idea on a couple of fronts:
1) He needs to check out other states to see how they’re run and what works or doesn’t work there. You don’t learn if you aren’t exposed to different views
2) Do you stay at your job ALL THE TIME? He took a weekend and a day off to travel for something else. I’m sure you (who obviously have no life) stay at your job all the time and never ever go anywhere else.
3) Getting away from the job once in a while will help you clear your mind and do a better job when back at work.
Seriously, you guys have NO CLUE about life at all. Name me one Governor – just 1 – who hasn’t left his state in the past year. I dare you. I double dare you. If you don’t like the man, grow a pair and just say so – don’t question why he leaves the state. What morons.

Prof, seriously? Wow! No clue about life at all? That’s a pretty tall statement, isn’t it? I’m thinking your students must have a pretty easy time in your classes, if you are indeed a professor, as your posting name states. I’m betting liberal arts classes. And, I do have a clue, and I do have a pair, and I don’t like you. Since you started the name calling, how about “educated idiot” for you? By the way,I hope you enjoyed your time with the governor. You be nice now.

Used to think highly of Arnold. But then he turned into a just another tax and spend Democrat. What a disappointment. California is cursed. Some of the greatest weather on earth but the absolute worst politicians. Hey Arnie, when you get back home to CA could you deliver a message to San Francisco for me? Tell them that I said that if they’ll agree to take all the illegal aliens in the country – now and in the future – then I’ll happily sit back and listen to them preach about how Arizona is a racist state for simply empowering their own police officers to help enforce federal law. Until then, please tell them to STFU because they are boring the rest of the country to death with their hypocritical protestations.

tim – you are so tiny! The whole country is in a mess you idiot….. and your fella Dems caused most of it but had an assist by the Pubs. Just like a Lib to blame the world’s problems on a Pub. If you haven’t noticed the Left Coast is controlled by Liberals. Arnold inherited a big mess and has to TRY to work with Dems that control the state. We need Ross Perot and if we had him 12 years ago this country and the world would be a lot better off now.
