Updated with winner! Win tickets “Mary Poppins” the musical!

24541_1382684599752_1011078506_1140414_7501017_nHow’s this for a spoonful of sugar: We have four tickets to this Thursday’s opening night performance of “Mary Poppins,” playing at the Fox Theatre.

The live show about the children under the loving care of a flying nanny, the singing chimney sweep, and the longest adjective in history is here through May 16. (Or is it a noun? A verb?)

A co-production of Disney and Cameron Mackintosh, the production opened on Broadway on Nov. 16, 2006 before hitting the road. Based on P.L. Travers’ cherished tale and the classic 1964 Walt Disney film, the stage play features the Academy Award-winning music and lyrics of Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman.

The stage production has been created, in collaboration with Mackintosh, by Academy Award-winning screenwriter Julian Fellowes, who has written the book, and the Olivier Award-winning team of George Stiles and Anthony Drewe, who have composed new songs and additional music and lyrics.

Alright, so who’s going to win this four pack of tickets? The person with the most original answer to this question:

What, exactly, does supercalifragilisticexpialidocious mean to you? Use it in a sentence. The most compelling answer wins, and the tickets will be waiting for you on Thursday.

Now, chop chop! Get to work!

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious is something wonderful that leaves behind a trail of goodness for someone else. Never requires batteries, does not run on gasoline, and most of the time is completely free. It is the simplest and most powerful form of joy and imaginitive revival. Mary Poppins employs kites and sidewalk chalk to transform a family in turmoil. The recognized and unrecognized saints, the holocaust survivors, and the humble encouraging optismists of this world possess the craft only found in supercalifragilisticexpialidocious hearts and minds-turning tragedy into victory!

super- “above,” cali- “beauty,” fragilistic- “delicate,” expiali- “to atone,” and docious- “educable,” This is the perfect word for Mary Poppins to use, being that she thinks of herself as incredibly beautiful but also extremely intelligent………….

SUPERCALIFRAGILISTICEXPIALIDOCIOUS – WAS DEFINED IN THE WIKIPEDIA DICTIONARY AS SUPER – ABOVE, CALI – BEAUTY, FRAGILISTIC – DELICATE, EXPIALI – ATONE, DOCIOUS – EDUCABLE. TO MY FAMILY AND I, IT MEANS: YOU CAN TEACH SOMEONE TO MAKE AMENDS AND RISE ABOVE THEIR FAULTS, IF THEY CAN SEE HOW DELICATE BEAUTY IS.

No matter what life is throwing at you, your attitude can change everything! The word “supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” represents happiness and contentment. It can cheer you up and make you giggle with delight!

For example, my 7 year old can make me so angry at times. He knows how to push my buttons just right. However, if I simply repeat supercalifragilisticexpialidocious a few times, I find myself smiling and singing the song! My attitude changes, and amazingly, so does his!

The memories of that word are amazing for me. Mary Poppins was my daughter’s favorite movie for 6 months when she 3 or 4. It makes me happy to think of her at that time in her life. Now as budding you woman of 12, she’s having a supercalifragilisticexpialidocious time learning those a few of the songs on her flute…which of course bring back those wonderful memories every time she practices. Thanks for that moment during the day!

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious is anything but atrocious! It’s all of life’s simple pleasures and happiness rolled into one. It’s sand between your toes, a rainbow painting the sky after the rain, the excitement your child shows when they see you, morning dew on the grass during an early morning walk, the thrill of a roller coaster, the high of a mountain top, the magic of Christmas, the splash you make as you jump feet first into a giant puddle. Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious is the most incredible expression of emotion to human kind. The rush of wind in your face as you trot the bases after the game winning home run. The smell of the ocean as you dive into the ocean deep. The feeling of smooth grass at when you’re laying down at the park. That thing you get at the pit of your stomach when you fall in love. The warmth of hot cocoa when its freezing cold. The way your clothes wear when they are right out of the laundry. The regalness of conquering the highest of peaks. Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, the way of life.

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious means joyful silliness. Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious means that laughter is truly the best medicine, that we are always children at heart, that it is downright okay and necessary to play as hard as we work (or perhaps harder), and that living life with joy is the greatest gift we can give ourselves.

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious is a word that you use when no other adjective in the human language can express the joy and excitement that one is feeling. I think that there are only a few moments of Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious’ness in our lives, and I can’t wait too experience the next one :) But so far, my favorite Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious moment?? Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious is best described as the excitement and wonder that only a child can feel. Never in your life can you be as excited or amazed as when you are a child seeing something for the first time. Ahhhhhhh – I’m in my early 30s, and this movie still gets me every time I see it. It is by far my favorite Disney movie.

When I hear the word supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, it means that I am about to be flooded by emotions of nostalgia. I remember gathering in front of the tv on Sundays for the Disney Sunday movie, and the week that they showed Mary Poppins, Michael Eisner introduced the movie with Julie Andres from the Skybuckets at Walt Disney World. I sooooooooo wanted to be there with her. She looked so prim and proper floating over one of my favorite places in the world.

How’s that for a specific memory?

So when “I say I’m having a supercalifragilisticexpialidocious day,” it means I’m remembering the small pleasures of childhood and knowing that children today still experience the same feelings of “anything’s possible” when watching this treasured movie.

I’d love to see to it on stage…

supercalifragilisticexpialidocious means ‘just a spoonful of sugar still makes the medicine go down, jumping through drawings on sidewalks to ride ferris wheel ponies for an afternoon’s delight, rising to the ceiling from laughing about a man with a wooden leg, feeding the birds with my one small coin for birdfood, dancing with chimney sweeps and walking on smoke steps to view the city and shaking hands for good luck, cleaning your room can be fun – it’s just how you do it, and most of all — when you have someone (family & friends) who loves you – you can get through anything. Happy 34th Anniversary Sandy! I love you!

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious means saving your aching nose, instigating tea with dukes and maharajas, saying it to your girl and thus your girl becoming your wife…but more importantly than any of that, it means holding onto a memory from your childhood so cherished and so dear that it still holds sway to this day, and that you can share that memory with your own child and see it elicit the same wonder and sense of imagination that it conjured in your eyes so many years ago.

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious describes the idea that it is better to be unique than to be normal. Despite the crowd’s harsh laughter and offensive jeers, Mary found solace in her supercalifragilisticexpialidocious nature because she knew in her heart that, no matter what they said about her or called her, she was happy with being herself and nothing else mattered.

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious means when you want to voice your opinion in a mature and sophisticated way. For example, when we use big words in conversation it shows our level of maturity. And when the other party doesn’t know the meaning of these word(s) they seem fascinated and lost. Thus making you feel they are going to ask you for the meaning and you tell them. However, you don’t want to give out that type of attention unless you can handle it. For example, you could be in a conversation disagreeing with a person and then use this word and they think you finally agree with them.

It’s the love that you feel from your child when you’re doing something with them and they just suddenly turn and give you a great big hug and kiss.
