Demi Moore-David Duchovny flick stars Alpharetta salon

When scouts for the locally shot Demi Moore-David Duchovny movie “The Joneses” went searching for a high-end salon for a few of the scenes, they stumbled into perfection at Muse Salon in Alpharetta.

The 3,000 square foot, 34-chair spot owned by Jody Mason and Daniel Jones was seriously ready for its close-up.

During a recent publicity stop in Atlanta, director Derrick Borte praised the salon for a great collaboration.

“They were wonderful. They really rolled out the red carpet,” Borte told us during an interview. “It had a great look to it. The stylists all looked great. It was Daniel, especially, who said, ‘I want to help you guys. What can I do?’ ”

Shot largely in Alpharetta, “The Joneses” is a dark comedy about consumerism run amok and the creepy influence of strategic stealth marketing. The scenes featuring Muse show Moore’s character getting gorgeous and drumming up business under the guise of making new friends, and later smiling with approval as products she recommended begin appearing on the salon shelves.

Jones said the salon was approached in September of 2008 and filming began later that fall. “We knew we would be giving up revenue,” Jones told us. “But we thought, how many times are you going to have the opportunity to film a movie?”

He enjoyed spending time with the cast, saying Moore is even prettier in person than she is on screen and that Amber Heard visited the salon several times while the filming was going on. “She absolutely loved getting her hair done here,” Jones said.

In keeping with the salon’s philanthropic philosophy, Jones and Mason declined the offer of a location fee, asking instead that the money be donated to the Atlanta 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer. The production company matched the fee, resulting in a larger donation.

The movie was filmed in The Manor Golf & Country Club. Many homeowners were used as extra’s.

Dear Milton – yes indeed! Also, a party scene stars a couple of the “Housewives,” and the kids’ school scenes were filmed at Kell High School.

Alpharetta/Milton is the perfect place to film a movie about consumerism. It is basically the unstated religion for many in that part of town. I’m glad I left.

Jody has been styling my hair since loing before he and Daniel opened Muse. Muse ROCKS and Jody and Daniel are the best!

Kim, not sure what to tell you, but if you had a bad experience perhaps it is because of you and not the stylist. Jody and Daniel don’t let customers leave unhappy, unless the customers attitude sucks. They have customers booked years in advance and stylists begging to work for them. They don’t need ugly customers.

Don’t hate! It doesn’t matter whose salon is the best. It’s about coverage and exposure. Muse got it!

This is so petty it’s theatrical! How perfect. Y’all need to quit bickering ~ it’s a hair salon that is featured in our own area. Let’s all be grateful for the interest, the attention revenue dollars from the movie crew. Let’s rejoice that money is going to a great cause = a cancer that is ravaging primarily women. Keep your two penny judgements, cattiness and immaturity for your girlfriends. You might find you have more when you start encouraging and building up instead of tearing down. Hope your day is full of great things…and great hair days always!

Agree with Ga Dawg! Bickering on overpriced places to get your haircut. What a racket salons are. Most of the women that go into those places look like white trash clowns when they walk out. Ohhh! I spent $200, to make me look pretty – yeah right!

Anybody who says Alpharetta is “consumerism run amok” doesn’t understand economics. But I do because I listen to Glenn Beck.

I dyed my own hair and it turned orange. I went to Muse and payed about $200 for cut & color/style. I am a black woman and I have never had a better hair cut/color nor have I had service comparable. The Best! That’s MUSE not other High end salons. I tried a high end salon in Denver (17th & Penn.)and went to great clips to get it fixed!!!It was still bad but they did better than Denvers high end salon. Alpharetta & Muse are Fabulous!

I’m so well bred that I have my own personal hair stylist that lives on the premise and does my hair a few times a day. Chew on that you bogus snobs in Buckhead and ITP for the matter!

Salon review or praise for a movie??

There are plenty, and I mean plenty, of sites where you can write a review for this salon. Was it really necessary to air your dissatisfaction here?

Get a clue, buy a vowel but just move on.

Alpharetta does have it’s share of uppity folk who dont know the world outside of their own subdivision, but that’s anywhere. Alpharetta is safe, beautiful and worthy of it’s Attention. The people there earned that lifestyle. The only ones wrong are those who judge. & I wouldn’t recommend Glen Beck It is a fact that he lies for monitary benefits!!!!!!! Not judging just being truthful. He incouraged a lot of you to sell your gold in the mail. Seriously??? Only because they were paying him too and today it is 1 of FBI’s largest scams being investigated in US. If you dont like Muse or Alpharetta then dont go there. please.

I am sure all of you that are putting down MUSE are prob working at other salons, and MUSE must take your biz from you. I live in South Carolina and would drive all the way there to just have the experience of having a stylist of Daniel’s magnitude to fix my hair! It is so sad to see that salons are struggling for biz so bad that they must get on the internet and have their employees makeup RUDE LIES about another salon, why not try to drum up biz a diff way and learn to cut and color hair the way MUSE does!! For this to be such a bad salon then why does it have 35 chairs and has grown OUT of its local site and actualy is in search of a BIGGER site!!?? I think the fact they are booked and VERY RARELY have a open slot speaks for itself. As far as the ladies (used loosely) on here that is putting them down, MUSE is a hair salon sweetie and they are stylist, they ARE NOT miracle workers, and no where in the description does it say they FIX UGLY, and looks are not the only thing thats making you ugly, your attitude on here speaks more than what you look like! Now have a blessed day and I hope GOD helps you HATERS GET A LIFE!!!

It alway amazes me that people can be so nasty and mean. So unnecessary. The point is that GEORGIA is getting the film business. Who cares where you live? Alpharetta is just a nice family oriented town with nice homes. Many of the residents are the most generous when it comes to charity work in less fortunate areas. There are fake people all over the world. But it is very unfair and childish to post such irresponsible comments on the web. Muse is a staple in the community, always donating services or money to anyone that needs it. I wish more businesses were this giving. The world is in a sad state and it is because of such negative people. Congratulations Alpharetta and Georgia for such great things.

What a wonderful thing for our state. Kudos to Sonny Purdue for creating a 30% tax advantage to bring films to Atlanta. This is a wonderful opportunity to create new jobs and revenue for our area. I think it is GREAT. I hope opportunities like this continue to unfold. I have heard of recent that several more films are being made here. Keep up the great work to all involved.
