Tyler Perry has assembled an all-star cast for the production of “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf” that he is set to direct, Clutch magazine reports.
The cast will include Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey, Whoopi Goldberg, Phylicia Rashad, Jurnee Smollett, Kimberly Elise, Kerry Washington and Macy Gray, the mag says.
Shooting for the film inspired by Ntozake Shange’s 1975 play starts in New York early this summer, and it should be released by early 2011.
In other Tyler Perry news, a red carpet premiere is being held next week in The Bahamas for “Why Did I Get Married Too,” which was shot there. If you happen to be vacationing at the Atlantis Resort in Nassau on March 29, you might notice the festivities.

This seems like it’s going to be a wonderful movie yet again. However, I can’t help to wonder why he chose Janet Jackson….AGAIN? I know there are better black actresses out there has to be. In my opinion she just about killed her last character, esp. in a scene that requires some sort of emotion. With this being said…I’m still looking forward to seeing this movie as painful as it might be to sit through the Miss Jackson parts….

It’s amazing how many people can sit on here and hate on someone that is working. Is it because you are not working? If you spent half as much time looking for a job or advancing your education( for those of you who can’t spell which are a lot of you posting) as you do hating on a person that is trying to show us that as a race we can all do what he is doing and not depend on someone to do it for us. Why can’t we just come together to support each other instead of bashing a person? We have to realize at some point everyone is not going to be pleased with everything a person does. That is a part of life. Grow up and get over it…Mr. Perry, as Katt Williams has always stated its a haters job to hate and if they are not hating then you are not doing your job properly…so with the comments that have been made YOU are doing your job. Keep up the excellent work!!!!!

Looking forward to this upcoming movie. We all have opinions, but it is only right to give them if you have actually SEEN his work. True, like all directors, there are some of his movies that aren’t as good as others. I wish him continued success – he has worked long and hard to get where he is and that is an accomplishment within itself.

Mark, I certainly hate to be the bearer of bad news (NOT!!), but Mr. Perry is doing just fine without you and your white cohorts’ non-support. I know that simply sickens you and those like you.. Your type not supporting a Black Cause, surprising (NOT AGAIN)!!! Get over the nonsense already. We’re Black, we’re proud, and we’re definitely here to stay. You might want to check out the new residents at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Have a nice life.

As a WHITE woman, I think Tyler Perry is a wonderful director/producer/actor, I watched his movie, Why I got married the other night and laughed like crazy, he has a way of caputuring the average person (black and white). Keep doing what your doing and people stop trying to make this a racist thing.

Just as would be expected, Tyler built a new studio in Atlanta, then refused to pay his suppliers. He obviously has the same entitlement mentality as the rest of black Atlanta.

@Hobby, unless you get the full details of the story then you should keep your mouth closed. The media has a way of twisting stories without knowing the full extent. By him being a celebrity he is scrutinized like any of us, hated on like any of us, and yet when someone is doing positive things, people are quick to jump on the bandwagon of negativity. He is a talented black man who has gone from rags to riches and I’m quite sure he hasn’t forgotten where he came from, nor is he resentful enough to refuse to pay someone for services rendered.

Troy, my info did not come from any media story. I got my info directly from the supplier who has not been paid! (many thousands of $$). So I apparently do have the full story—and you do not! You are the one “jumping on the bandwagon”–the bandwagon of looking for a racist
around every corner that is out to get the black man. Get a life!

Mark since the subject is about your statement. I would like to say, you and your friends do not make up 90% of white people, and I am black and most of my friends are white and I know facts are they go to see his movies, when I go to see them I see whites just as much as black, so where do you get your percentages, and you know we need to get over this especially here in Georgia, it makes me want to move back to DC where blackness is the things, Obama, Julianie

General comment to the haters; his movies and plays tend to gross larger amounts at the box office (even with limited distribution) than a lot of major movie studio offerings for a few reasons. One, because they not only have some extremely talented actors in them (several Emmy, Oscar, and Golden Globe award winners); two story lines the speak to common plights in the urban community, and the daily life there; and third real life answers built on hope and faith. Themes that can uplift.
These are the same kind of plot lines found in the Major Studio’s films but are pointed to a more urban setting. “If you don’t know, now you know.”
In answer to why should we care about his Business\Studio, etc. here in Atlanta because he has more than 60 or 70 full time (direct) employees who daily activity affects a few dozen more in the area around the studio; And when they are shooting here more than an additional hundred or so part time workers get hired. The work building new sets also involves several trades: carpentry, electrical, sheet rock installers and, etc.
Why are the prices different? Consider how small the theaters here are compared to the ones in Boston, Philly or, New York.

sacredlady opened a canned of worms. Wondering how he would write the role of #white woman. But didn’t Tyler Perry do that movie already? Got my fingers crossed that he will produce and let someone else direct. Really don’t like the timeline of the movie. We see what happens with rushed projects. Reports are early 2011 which means DVD by christmas – two great quarters for lionsgate – that’s rushed alright.

Regardless of what you think of Tyler Perry’s movies here are the facts:
1) He KNOWS who his audience is and makes films for his target audience.
2) His seven films has grossed $390 MILLION
3) The AVERAGE revenue per film is $55.7 MILLION
4) the average OPENING WEEKEND is $25 MILLION
here’s my source: http://boxofficemojo.com/people/chart/?view=Actor&id=tylerperry.htm
The numbers speak for themselves.
Regarding “For Colored Girl’s”. He acquired the rights to do a film adaptation of Ntozake Shange’s award winning novel – which is the source of the name of the film and the cast. So, back off the racist comments…

MARK-if you think white people don’t watch Tyler Perry movies then you obviously havent been at a movie theatre when they come out. Apparently you don’t rent movies either because white people grabbed the last copies of I Can Do Bad All By Myself from Bockbuster and Redbox while I was in line trying to rent them myself. Next time mention “YOU ARE A WHITE PERSON THAT DOESN’NT WATCH TYLER PERRY MOVIES”. Speak for yourself because you don’t know what others are doing apparently.

“why did I get Married Too!” this film made the first “Why did I get married ?” look very tame, this movie really pushed the envelope in terms of emotions, it was not a very deept movie but Tyler really made it his business to push Janet Jackson to state of anger I have never seen in a woman. Overall I give it a B+.
