Tyler Perry’s next project involves all-star cast

tyler-perry-fcgTyler Perry has assembled an all-star cast for the production of “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf” that he is set to direct, Clutch magazine reports.

The cast will include Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey, Whoopi Goldberg, Phylicia Rashad, Jurnee Smollett, Kimberly Elise, Kerry Washington and Macy Gray, the mag says.

Shooting for the film inspired by Ntozake Shange’s 1975 play starts  in New York early this summer, and it should be released by early 2011.

In other Tyler Perry news, a red carpet premiere is being held next week in The Bahamas for “Why Did I Get Married Too,” which was shot there. If you happen to be vacationing at the Atlantis Resort in Nassau on March 29, you might notice the festivities.

I just hope he outsources the directing to someone with actual talent….Kasi Lemmons, Spike Lee, Oz Scott, even Debbie Allen. Bill Condon, even.

Ohhhhh the haters!! When are blacks going to start celebrating and commending EACHOTHER’S accomplishments? Instead of downing someone who has made it and accomplished their dreams, ACCOMPLISH your OWN! I’m so sick of us downing eachother all the dag on time… don’t we get it from others enough????

As you haters sit at home blogging about how awful Tyler Perry is – a successful, hard-working, financially secure man – he is ignoring your hating all the way to the bank.

I have not been a fan of his work up to now, although I think he has great marketing and business acumen, but I think he may be on to something with this one. I’m looking forward to a updated remake of “Colored Girls…”

All blacks huh?

Is that racist?

And how about that title? Is it OK if I, as a white man refer to black girls as colored?

Where the white folk at? LOL

At least have one get killed off early in the film, I guess we owe you that! :)

Shoshana, it is obvious that you have no idea who Ntozake Shange is or what her choreopoem is about. Of course the cast is all Black because at the time that Ms. Shange wrote her award winning project, it spoke to the lives of Black women in America during 1975.

Did it speak for all Black women? Of course not. You might want to do yourself a favor and actually read it before you make such “culturally enlightened…NOT” comments.

Tyler, I wish you much success with this new ambitious behavior. You have my total support. Keep up the good work, I am very proud of you.

Even though his movies are average at best, you’ve got to admit the guy is smart. He’s definitely become the movie director for the African-American population. I wonder why he always has to use a play on words, or a misspelled word in all his movie titles. It gets a little kitchy after awhile.

thank you

After walking with you these past few years, my skin has gotten tougher. I’m sure yours has too. So I don’t ignore the haters. If they have anything valid to say[which is seldom], I take it in and discard the rest.
You’ve made a tremendous impact on not only the lives of people seeking fresh, family entertainment, but also made an impact on the business of entertainment itself. So continue to do you.
P.S. I’ll bet Madea, Brown, Brian, Ella, Angela and Joe laugh all the way to the bank too…LOL!

Mark, have you ever in your life commented on the oddness of an all-white cast? You act as if white is “neutral” and all else is not. This is incorrect. We’re all people.

for folks unfamiliar with Mr. Perry — his cast in front of the camera may be 99% black – but he has some very talented people behind the scenes — very talented diverse group.. I am very impressed by The Tyler Perry Studios. If you have not been able to take at our — please do so. HE HAS EVERYTHING HOLLYWOOD HAS — RIGHT HERE IN ATLANTA. HIS STUDIO’ and SOUND STAGES are PHENOMENAL. — for all of the people who don’t like him or his movies — ask yourself: HOW MANY PEOPLE WORK FOR YOU? HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE YOU EMPLOYING?

@Mark, First of all, lots of white people support Tyler Perry movies. How many black people were in Titanic? ZERO! You stated “no wonder white people don’t support his movies….”! Looks to me like whether white people support his movies are not, Tyler is raking in the dollars and selling out theatres everytime he releases a movie. Even his TV shows are the highest rated on TBS. So, looks like to me, with or without white people, Tyler is the man. Now bow down!!!!!

Tyler +Perry is a Loser, Some one made a statement about the talented people he has in his crew. He wouldnt know Talent if it slapped him in his big head.
He has gotten to a point, were he doesnt remember the ones who’s blood.sweat, tears help him reach this plateau. Those Asst directors, and producers are a bunch of idiots also.

Jessica you are so right!! Tyler Perry has a formula that isn’t hollywood. He will spend like 5 million to make a movie and all of movies usually gross over 50 million!!! Even if you don’t appreciate his movies you can’t deny he is highly intelligent!! I know alot of white people who like his movies and the reason why some don’t is simply because they don’t understand “our” humor!!! because alot of black people have a “madea” in there family. My grandmother for one…. which makes it that much more funnier….

I’m not here bash but with all that’s going on in the ATL and all the support why are ticket sales for his plays higher then most of the bigger cities. The prices have skyrocketed. I love Tyler but come on its hard enough why is he making it just that much harder for his home based fans. Ticketmaster.com will show you all the different prices.

Wow by reading some of these comments you would think blacks shouldn’t be allowed to even be in movies…much less star in them and direct them and write them. Wake up ppl..look at the movie shelves..you will see white white white white white..oh and maybe a black movie or a movie with the token black character. Tyler Perry is just doing his thing just like any white movie maker does and the fact that some of you can’t even get past that means you are still living in the past and you need to bring your head up out of the sand. News flash we are now allowed to vote, drink from a white water fountain, attend a white school oh and make movies with a black cast!! get over it!

Black or white cast, to me it doesn’t matter. Tylers movies have a teaching beyond what meets the eye. They teach morals and addreses issues many families go through. e.g. “Why did I get married?” and “Diary of a mad bleck woman” have values that can help not only married but single youngstars who intend to get married, to know that one should not get married for wealth, sex or other material things. It is an institution of give and take, selfishness should be left behind.
We appreciate you Tyler, continue reaching the families.
