tylerTyler Perry was named one of Barbara Walter’s 10 Most Fascinating People for 2009. It was no surprise that Michelle Obama, complete with sleeveless dress, topped the list, which also included Sarah Palin, Bret Favre, Glenn Beck and Michael Jackson’s children. Controversial performance artist Lady Gaga also made the list (and even got Ms. Walters to say “muffin” on air).

During last night’s show, the filmmaker recounted his violent childhood and meteoric rise to fame and fortune by tapping into a faith-based, comedic core that appeals to middle-class African-Americans – mostly women. When asked how he knows what women want, he talked about spending time at shops and hair salons with his aunt and mother, the late Willie Maxine Perry, who were trying to shield him from his abusive father at home.

beckPerry got very emotional when speaking about his mother, who died Tuesday at age 64, after this interview was done. He was visibly moved when explaining how the proudest moment of his life was providing a lavish lifestyle for her, a la the soap opera character Katherine Chancellor.

Isn’t it about time for Barbara WaWa to hang it up? Who cares about her or any list she compiles. Horse hockey, I’d say.

Barbara Walters is so stained from her self righteous sarcasm that I think her marketable skills to today’s audience are far more than just diminished, they are fading fast. C’mon network executives . . . WAKE UP.

With the respectful exclusion of Michelle Obama and Michael Jackson’s children, I would change “fascinating” to “bizarre”.

seriously, i am soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo over mrs. obama being crammed down our throats that we should just accept her as our modern jackie o.
she is not. she is scary and racist(read the papers she wrote in college). i am tired of seeing her arms bared. it is not appropriate. i could care less that she supposedly shops at jcrew or grows organic veggies. she has no platform like past wives and needs to find something to do rather than showing up on magazine covers. clearly, she does not like to attend official functions(see photo of expression at fort hood).

We the people need to be at war with our own media…why some of these stories make headlines is beyond me? Our news media has become nothing more than a semi-professional version of the National Enquirer.

And who votes for this farce? Kate Gosselin? Okay, it is pretty sad that this woman along with some of the others are on this list. It must be a real slow year. Jackson children? Okay, Michael’s death was the best thing to happen to these guys since the 70’s. He died, then they got their own show and emerged back into the public eye. Adam Lambert? Lady Gaga? Freaks. And then there is Mrs. Obammy, does she need a teleprompter to?

I feel sorry for the one who came in number 11 and just missed being put on this “all important list” that means “so much”

Don’t worry, THREE MORE YEARS, and the Obama’s will be out of the White House and we can start trying to get things back to normal.

It says fascinating, not talented…or smart…or with even a hint of appropriate self-awareness. Because the only talent consistent across that list of names is unwarranted self-adulation.

Another attempt by the media elite to make us love what they love- the Obama family. Mrs. Obama is so culturally ignorant- she knows no protocol, no fashion standards, she is simply offensive and uncouth.

Chris said “three more years and we will be done with them.” We had better get rid of Pelosi and Reid and their ilk next year before the damage done by the President is irreversible. My only comfort is that Obama’s most similar peer, Carter, didn’t do so much damage that we couldn’t recover. Maybe the same is true of this guy.

I would love to see how many of you are Princeton educated, has worked for a high powered law firm and supervised the person that became President of the United States. I think none. So yes, Michelle Obama should have been at the top of the list. Like some of you say the list means nothing, well apparently it does, you had no choice but to comment to nothing. So there, go out and educate yourselves before you cast stones.

@All. Thanks for commenting. Let’s keep in mind that this post is not about politics. The AJC has ‘Political Insider’ and several other blogs if that’s what you want to discuss. We welcome it there! From this point, comments that are severely off-topic — or include vulgarities/racial epithets — will be removed.

No matter who much Democrates hated Bush (daddy & son) policies, I never in history remember a 1st lady being attacked the way Michelle get attacked. I would never call Laura any of the names Michelle has been called. Race does play a part of it. I think it’s “FASCINATING” the way Michelle handle all the press………good or bad.

I have never seen so much HATRED in my life, since the President and 1st Lady Obama been in office. The country was no bulid on hate but I thank God for his son Jesus dying on the cross for all the hatred I read about the Obama’s. But I can say if we do not stop the hatred God will come to judge every evil tongue that rise up against his people. If you want to say bad things about people think of John 3:13. That should shut your mouth or keep your fingers from typing so nasty words.

I think Ms. Walters list was interesting, although honestly, I don’t see why her opinion is so important. I love the Obamas, and Michelle was a great choice. Adam Lambert is really weird, though! And who doesn’t love Lady Gaga? Oh but Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin should NOT have been on that list! I’m not a fan of them AT ALL!!! Anyway, interesting choices…

Enjoyed her list of people. At least got some history of why Glenn Beck is so totally screwed up. Never ceases to amaze me how people can tolerate him and Palin. They must be the two most ignorant people in the spotlight that I have yet to see. Maybe that’s the reason.
