Diddy and Kasim Reed, back in the day

diddy

These days, Kasim Reed is busy preparing to become Atlanta’s mayor. Years ago at Howard University, he had his hands full keeping Sean Combs out of trouble.

“In college I was known for being extra wild,” the artist, known these days as Diddy, told Buzz during a Thursday afternoon interview. “Kasim was one of the guys who said, come here. That’s the way he always was in school.”

Diddy, whose latest project, “Last Train to Paris,” will be released next year, was reminiscing from a 12th floor suite at the downtown W on stop to promote Ciroc vodka (we found a recipe online for the “Ciroc Diddy,” a cocktail made with one and a half parts Ciroc and three parts lemonade. Here’s a photo of the libation, from allrecipes.com).

Thursday evening Diddy and Reed and about 15 associates retired to the private dining room at BLT Steak, enjoying short ribs and NY strip steaks.

In the days before this month’s run-off between Reed and Mary Norwood (who’s called for a recount following the very close results) Diddy repeatedly tweeted support for Reed. As tight as they are, the artist said his old college buddy never traded on their friendship.

“It was personal for me,” Diddy said. “He really knows me, but he never asked for my help.”

Maybe at his inauguration, Lil’ Wayne, Lil’ BowWow, and Lil’ whoever else can rap and jump around the stage, and make the ATL look even more ghetto. How proud we all will be.

I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say being friends with a guy in college who turned out to be a rap mogul doesn’t disqualify you from being mayor of a city hundreds of miles away.

@ Elizabeth if you dont like what Atlanta is becoming your are more than welcome to leave. Since it seems you might not be that bright let me give you directions, you can use either I-20, I-75, or even I-85. But please dont use I-285 its just one big circle that will just keep you here in CLUB ATLANTA as you call it.

Just what we need, more talk about political figures and their ties to celebrities. Who cares about this crap? Do something while you have the office Kasim.

Well, Kasim knows Sean Combs, with issues going on, just another example of who you know to get to where to trying to go. Maybe Norwood really could learn from him cause right now he’s getting last laugh.

It is apparent by these posts that we have not learned anything from the past. Neither side wins when we divide, so try this if it helps. Every morning remember the way you felt, when you heard the news the towers had fell, remember the way you loved all Americans of all colors. Most of all rememeber how you cried and sang ” God bless America”. Look at you now, Zion what’s the matter with you now?

I predicted 6 months ago, when everyone was saying Ms. Norwood was in the lead, that she would never, ever win. A white person will never, ever, never, ever be elected mayor in Atlanta. She could have been running against Michael Vick, and Vick would have won. That’s just the plain and simple truth.

Yeah the black leadeship has done wonders for this city. Why just look at our wondeful sewer system that was left to rot away. I really enjoy paying 100 bucks a month for the repairs the BLACK LEADERSHIP couldnt keep up. Its the beggining of the end for black hollywood. I cant wait unitl they rename the airport to only the only name it deserves, Hartsfeild.

Wow. He was one of those guys who said “come here”..? Oooh…a spine-tingling, yet comical endorsement.

I like living in Atlanta. I just don’t like the legacy of local government mismanagement. Think I’ll stick around and hate on that all I want….that is until the local taxes become so ridiculous that you can’t afford to live in a cardboard box in the city limits. Not implying norwood would’ve been any better.

Ignorant Blacks… Wow sounds kind of harsh their Mr. Hunt that would make you ignorant and what….. The article specifically stated their friendship never crossed into the political endorsement/entertainment arena… You can read correct.. or is it you look at the Pretty pictures and cast “ignorant judgement”. It is sad how the success of black folks brings out the true hearts of white people. Puffy has accomplished more in the last 6 months than most of you guys have accomplished in your whole miserable hating lives. Stop being so jealous and maybe try and emulate kasim or sean combs.

I have a major problem with some of you on here saying the city is going to be ghetto because kareem is the mayor. We are no longer living in the days when you all can have things your way.You either live with whats going on or get the hell out.If you people wouldn’t be paying these rappers millions of dollars to keep rapping and downgrading my people then we wouldn’t have this problem. So anything that is happening now is your fault.I wish you well Mr.Reed!

We all call for Entertainers to be more aware, responsible, etc. So why is it such a problem that Diddy endorse Mayor- elect Reed? Maybe if the article had a little more depth then it would “more acceptable”. And Diddy does enough business in The A that he OUGHT to know what’s going on out here. P.S…we HBCU Alumni MUST stick together!! H O L L E R

[...] As I read and reread Diddy’s tweets over the last month, I struggled to figure out his connection to Atlanta’s soon to be new Mayor, Kasim Reed. I wondered if it was because he had a business in Atlanta, or if he was just political enough to follow all Mayoral races???  To find out the connection- See the AJC.com [...]
