Janet Jackson confirms break-up with Jermaine Dupri

janet

(AP)

Pop star Janet Jackson admits that she and Atlanta super producer Jermaine Dupri are just friends.

In a primetime interview Wednesday with Good Morning America’s Robin Roberts, she said, “I adore him. Love him to death.” In fact, Dupri, whom she dated for about seven years, was the one who taught her to love her … assets. She said he taught her that there’s nothing wrong with her body – curves and all (he just picked up some extra points with that move).

Speaking from her Malibu beach house looking amazingly beautiful in a winter white fitted dress, Jackson, 43, also spoke candidly about her family and brother Michael’s death in June.

“You have to accept what is, but it’s hard.” She said that the family tried interventions to stop Michael’s drug use several times but she felt like he was in denial.

She’s still soft-spoken and seemingly shy, admitting that she gets embarrassed when people stare at her. “I’m in the wrong business.”

Roberts took Ms. Jackson through family photos, childhood and adult performances with her brothers, two failed marriages (James Debarge and Elizondo) and an amazing performing career with some of the biggest names in the biz. We even saw some grainy video of Paula Abdul doing some choreography with a young Jackson.

And there was the moment (uncomfortable for many of us) when Jackson explained why she and her siblings call their father “Joseph.” Bascially, the patriarch of the family told them to. “It is what it is,” Jackson said.

There were also bouts of depression, yo-yo weight gains/losses (she has upcoming book, “True You,” about weight issues) and the infamous wardrobe malfunction with Justin Timberlake.

In the end, she says she’s in the healing process. She’s focused on helping her nieces and nephews succeed and doesn’t look back.

What did you think of the interview?

Great interview. I was actually impressed. I still am not into the soft fake voice. She’s very pretty and would have been anyway, but all that plastic surgery–nose, boobs, etc.–worked for her. Too bad she can’t sing, though. I can never make out anything she’s singing. Great interview, though.

I enjoyed the interview. I pray God continues to heal her and her family.

Did her family try to intervene when he was molesting young boys? She and her family deserve nothing but contempt. Disgusting family.

I was really impressed with her really appearing to be a very likeable and honest person. I never like that sofft voice and being so shy but I guess that’s the way she really is. I don’t think that her music is appealing at this stage of her career and I don’t that she can make a transistion to music with a message for people in her age group or older.

I think that it was a very nice interview. I think some people just wan’t her to go deep into her bussiness and what we got was good for me. She came to my high school in 1983 Price High School and she had a soft voice then the way she talk is the way she talk. I wish people would talk way is giving and stop asking for more more more. Good Interview

I hate that she and Dupri could not work through their differences. I always believed they were soul-mates.

David C, educate us, how do KNOW that what was said about MJ molesting children was true. I used to work in a TV news room, and dumb sheeple like you have no idea what’s really going on.

David C–Her brother was found Not-Guilty by a Jury. So, there was no reason for her family to intervene when nothing was happening.

Loved the Interview. Janet looked great and was very candid about many of the issues that have plagued her and her family. The message I took from it is that we cannot give up on those in our families/friends that are struggling with addictions – it is important to be persistent. I also applaud her strong message on self love. Great interview overall. Thanks.

Dupri looks like he should live under a bridge. However Janet Jackson is gorgeous! I never could understand the attraction on any level. Maybe she felt more beautiful hanging around that troll. Anyway, now that she is free, I will be giving her a call. I want her to be able to say she “really knows” Jack Schitt.

David C, another one that hates America. don’t believe in the justice system huh David? He was acquitted of all charges and the boy that accused him recanted…so now what? You know ALL? Were you molested?

JJ being found not guilty DOES NOT MEAN he was innocent. IT WAS JUST NEVER PROVEN.

I personaly think he molested little boys. For those of you with little boys, would you have let your child spend the night with MJ. I think not.

I have never cared much for Janet she always comes over as “plastic”. Watch her interviews, its like the lights are on but nobodys at home. As far as the breakup, who cares, there are a lot more issues in the world today than whats happening with JJ. Put her on the back burner and worry about the country.

OK, she has talked about all of her family, but what about Janet’s daughter? Where is she? Isn’t she about 19-20 yrs old now?

Complaining about a ’soft voice’? Wow… Folks, some of the most successful people in show biz are extremely shy. As long as her grammar is correct and she knows how to pronounce words and not slur them, what difference does it make? You all need to get a life— a REAL one!

What’s the matter David-C, did you want some of it and couldn’t get it? Haters like you are disgusting, “cause it’s you that’s got problems “u” don’t want to address so you look to what you imagine are the problems of others”, chill out dude and go on and put on that dress, shucks, now a days nobody cares! God Bless you Jackson family, and I’m really sorry Jermaine and Janet didn’t work out too.

I haven’t seen the interview, but I like Janet. I watched her in Good Times when she was just a little girl, and she talked the same as she does now. As far as Dupri, I knew that would not last. He is just too ugly for her. He probably is real nice, like less than attractive men are, but you still have to look at them. I hope he doesn’t think that she was using him, because when they got together, she really needed someone to worship her, and he did. All women need that at some point in their lives. Good Luck Janet.

Ms Simon, you are an ignorant small minded woman. Maybe we should throw you back to salem and the witch-hunts where you belong. Furthermore, where are these so-called molested children and their parents today? Michael is dead. They can’t be sued by him. The reason they don’t have anything to say is because it NEVER happened and their meal ticket is deceased. Frankly, if I had been molested, I would be the first person to hit Larry King and talk about these “alleged” incidents. But they are silent. Incognito. MIA. There’s a reason for that and only someone as stupid as you miss the obvious.

David, that man was found innocent. Could you please use this energy to go get all the people that lynched innocent black men back in the day, simply because they were black. Please don’t talk about who deserves nothing but contempt.

I loved the interview and Robin did a good job. Never been too fond of the soft-spoken speaking voice from Janet, but it is who she is. I think she was more candid and more comfortable( guess its those 40s like she said). You can tell she is still in love with Jermaine Dupri. Her whole face lit up and she was blushing when she started to talk about him, even though he is her ex. I hope they work things out and get back together..I think they are soulmates as well.

mitzymy,
How is Jermaine Dupri being unattractive to you an indication their relationship would not last? And we wonder why so many of “us” are still single. Janet Jackson married the stereotypical “pretty light skinned brotha” and a Latino and she still was unhappy and went through hell. I never even heard her talk about being happy dating until she got with JD. Its apparent that great looks do not equal happiness and a good relationship. You need to learn to unwrap the pretty package and see what’s really inside. You might not like it once you do.

I think Michael was born before his time so to speak. I don’t think he molested little boys I think little boys had parents who wanted money and would do anything to get it. A man showing love to a little boy doesn’t mean he is molesting, but some people who have never been loved and have hate built up within themself would see this of course. Actually he paid the family for this to go away because he was just sick of it. For you Simon to say that I not really know is said but you are entitled to your opinion and anyone else who agrees with you is totally wrong I think. I think the Jacksons are a close knit family. I think Janet is Janet she said it best it is what it is. I wish her the best, from a entertainer stand point she is not one of my favorites but it doesn’t stop me from liking her. And those who said her family is disgusting how do you know, were you there? Peace out people.

Anyone that is shallow enough to think that looks are a factor to a relationship’s longevity has never really been inlove! May God Bless You Janet, and have strength through this time of greiving.

Didn’t see the interview, but I’m sure that it was great..Janet is a beautiful woman and seems to be a nice person..

I also don’t think that Jermaine is the best looking person, but isn’t beauty in the eye of the beholder? If he made Janet happy and she loved him, then that should be all that matters..

David C..A little harsh don’t you think..How would you like to be judged by something that your brother or sister did? I know that I would hate to be judged by things that my family has done..I don’t think that Michael abused any of those children, but that’s just my opinion..I agree with the poster that said, it was a group of parents that thought they had found a way to get money..

I have always been a huge Janet fan but let’s face it, she’s kinda weird. And for the record, that baby voice is fake. It was quick but when they showed her in the studio w/ Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis she was speaking in her normal voice. She got that from her brother and they were extremely close so it makes sense that she’d try to emulate him. They looked alike before all the plastic surgery but she really looks a lot like Mike, post-surgery as well. It just sucks that Jermaine has that massive tattoo on his body now. The ink’s barely dry on that thing and they’re not even together. I don’t know what happened but you can tell she really loves him.

And people need to leave MJ alone!!!! The man is dead now. I will never believe he molested anyone; he was only guilty of putting himself in that position. And not only has his accuser admitted it was all a lie, his father just committed suicide. That alone speaks volulmes.

I thought it was a great interview, Jan looked amazing and her 40s certainly agrees with her. She deals with her greif well and I’ll continue to pray for her and the family. As for the secret child, I understand that James has a daughter who is coming out with an album. Could that be her child as well? If so Jan really missed out because she is certainly beautiful and talented? I’m sure if it is true it’ll come out later.

Janet looks good, she just have lost a step or two in watching preview of video. I only caught the part of interview where Robin said Janet has been now been responsible for her own lyrics. They say lyrics supposed to relate to her life, but that doesn’t seem like her not to have Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis to write her songs which has been that way for years. On the breakup, there was some talk about her and Dupri was supposed to tie the knot, but for them to be together for so long and breakup now, that had to have something to do with it.

I loved the interview. Janet has always been my favorite female artist. I love her and love how humble and caring she is. I really think she misses her brother alot. The bond and relationship between the 2 were amazing. I love her wish her well. I hope eventually her and Jermaine get back together.

You really think that if Janet had a child with ANYONE that she would give the child away to be raised by there drug addicted father, coming from that family there is no way that happened. It would be much more likely that the child would be raised in the Jackson family.

I am glad to see Janet doing well and willing to talk about her life, career and family.

To Ms. Simon/David C/ and spot on Karina – the man is gone – respect his family. I am trying to figure out the Simons’, davids, and karinas…If this man really did this – then the parents need to carry the blame. The continuously took their children around him. It was always families that didn’t have anything (thanks-CWilli for pointing that out) you never heard (McCauley) in fact he stated that Michael never touched him – Let’s really look at something – what parent in their right mind if a child was molested by someone – would take a PAYOFF and why haven’t we heard from these kids that should be nearing adult hood claiming that they are ruined because of this – we haven’t because…IT DIDN’T HAPPEN…
Rumor mills are the worse and it is obvious you guys are patrons!!

Touching interview from a soft spoken women who has had her ups and downs. Her brother would have been proud. As to the molestation payoff; there really is not alot of evidence to substantiate the claim; that is readily available to the public. It is interesting to note that the father of the accuser commited suicide recently…again, not enough information to go on. Michael’s musical legacy is undeniable; deal with it. Janet, Miss Jackson if you’re nasty, looked every bit the lady.

I think Janet is an amazing performer, talent, and overall beauty. She has inspired me to live out my dreams nomatter what and to be all that I can be in the face of sexism and racism. She is a great example of true womanhood, style, and class. She is sexy without over doing it. I cna’t believe she’s shy–what?!!!lol

WE LOVE YOU JANET!
