(Courtesy of PETA)

Our AJC colleague Alexis Stevens reports that Atlanta Falcons fans now have even more to love of tight end Tony Gonzalez and his wife, October.

After feasting our eyes on this photo, we see why.

It’s the latest ad in PETA’s “Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur” campaign.

(More celebs get naked for PETA)

Yum!

Do sexy PETA ads affect whether you wear fur?

As soon as I win the lottery, the first thing I’m doing is buying a full length fur of the highest quality. Seriously.

So, they don’t like fur but they’ll wear leather shoes and play with a leather football all day? Does this make any sense?

I’d rather skin every dog, cat, fox and furry animal I see than go naked like some FRUITCAKE!

I already swerve TO HIT animals on the road just for the fun of it.

Vick was right to do what he did to them sorry worthless dogs!

I like TG and his wife is hot, and I also abhor animal abuse, but I can think of a hundred different ways to stop animal abuse. Joining up with PETA is not one of them. Those dingbats are several disconnected from reality. It’s hard to take them seriously when they’ve asked for the following:

1. Wanting people to use human breast milk instead of cow’s milk for ice cream

2. Wanting people to start calling fish “sea kittens”, with the hope that the association with cute kittens will make people stop catching fish.

I also read that their president once said that even if animal testing resulted in a cure for AIDS, her organization would not support it. Talk about ignorance at it’s finest. Lastly, I see PETA was real quick to jump on the Michael Vick situation due to all the publicity, yet they have been strangely silent on this case so far:

The hypocrisy of PETA who kills just as many animals yet the dumbpricks are in the nude. What is up with these people wanting to be in the nude in public..sick fetish! They need to keep their clothes on, wait, the words escape them or they just not that articulate to formulate a speech in support. Go figure..dumb down American and recoup with nudity! I have seen much better bodies nothing to rave here.

I believe that animals should be treated humanely, but PETA is one of the most morally upside-down organizations on the planet and for Tony G to associate himself with them is truly disappointing.

This is the same organization that equated the slaughtering of chicken with the Holocaust – do an internet search for “Holocaust on your plate.”

There is no moral equivalence between people and chickens… and this kind of thinking shows the moral confusion of that organization.

Again, we should treat animals as humanely as possible, but this campaign, in my view, has misplaced priorities.

That being said, I have no interest in furs, have never owned one, and frankly think they look silly.

From reading some of these comments it sounds as if MANY OF YOU are hating on Tony and October because you don’t have the bodies that anyone would want to see naked. I love it when FAT, UGLY and OUT OF SHAPE people want to dog out people who can pull it off. Let’s get real…the majority of the residents in the State of Georgia and probably most of you blogging here are OVER WEIGHT so don’t front.

Go exercise and/or get on a diet and YOU TOO CAN LOOK AS GOOD AS THEY DO!!!!! QUIT HATING!!!!

Oh yea, how could I forget PETA showing up at the Westminster Dog Show last year, dressed as the KKK. They were attempting to equate these dog shows and what not with slavery. I wanted to punch each and every last one of them.

To The Haters, you are sadly mistaken on your post. I don’t think that anybody here is jealous of how TG and OG look or how in shape they are. Most of us just wish they had chosen another organization to align themselves with instead of PETA.

PETA ’s philosophy is not Biblical. We are to have dominion over the animals. However, the Bible does not condone cruelty to animals. Using animals for food or clothing is not cruel. Animals are a gift from God and we are to treat them humanely, especially in using them for food or clothing. PETA is off the deep end. They once claimed on a billboard in Atlanta that Jesus was a vegetarian, when it is clear He was not. They are dishonest and whatever they say is suspect. I admire Tony Gonzalez as a football player and his work ethic and espousal of excellence, but am very disappointed in his politics. However, we have the freedom to believe as we like.

I loved number 88 before but now I love him even more!! I wish fur coats were non-existent. The public doesn’t realize they’re probably wearing cat and dog fur made in China. Nothing sexy or bling about it. Any fur coat is horrible!! Thank you Tony Gonzales for making this statement thru PETA!!

Have you ever worn a fur? I promise you–try on a mink or chincilla and you’ll not want to take it off. All these Peta fanatics, do they refuse to wear leather (gloves/coats) or eat meat? Gonzales does not look like a vegan to me

What losers won’t do for PETA, do you think they brain wash them. How about a picture with a linen coat on that states I will never wear fur. What a loser, this is sick but of course Blank needs all the money he can get to appease these fanactics. So Gonzales makes a deal with the devil and Blank backs it. They will never get the out of this orginization now. PETA owns the Falcons, Blank and we know they own these 2 losers in the photos

Eric I agree with you he wears leather shoes to play and pratice in and the ball that he catches to make a living is leather. LOL what is wrong with these losers are they just dumb or do they think we are? Oh don’t wear fur but leather which comes from a animal that is fine. Please get real at least act like you know what you are talking about before you do something this stupid

I respect anyone’s right to voice thier opinion, but grant me the right to lose lose respect for thier intelligence. This ad demonstrates poor judgement on a number of levels, mostly associating one’s self with PETA.

I had some ground up animal for lunch and plan to eat a slab of another animal tonight for supper, along with some veggies of course.

I see a lot of people on this page posting about how smart they are and how dumb Tony Gonzalez and PETA are … that he wears leather and plays with a leather ball and therefore he’s a hypocrite … What Tony is arguing for – and you don’t need to curse at a man for expressing his beliefs – is reducing the amount cruelty and suffering involved. I work in medical research. We use animals in experiments, but we always try to minimize their suffering as much as possible and reduce the numbers of animals used. Can we eliminate all killing? Not really, but everyone I’ve ever worked with thinks the effort to reduce, refine, and replace where possible, is worthwhile. There are lots of things we can’t do perfectly, but we don’t throw up our hands and say, well, we might as well not care. I’m an engineer with PhD from MIT. I don’t think I’m a fool, nor do I think Tony is. He is doing what we do in engineering all the time. He is starting with the things that are easiest. Fur is different from leather, in that animals killed for fur are killed just for that, and they are often trapped and killed in far worse ways than animals killed for food. Leather is a by product of existing killing and it’s not something one needs to replace all the time. How many pairs of shoes or footballs does one need?

The bottom line is that we are not animals. Just because (some) animals might be cruel to us, doesn’t mean we should be indifferent to their suffering. Being thoughtful and ethical is what makes (some of) us civilized and human. Most of the people posting on this page have low IQs.
