Falcons defensive end Chauncey Davis’ foundation promotes health and wellness, which seems pretty fitting for a pro athlete.
But the foundation’s focus on diabetes awareness, detection and prevention is a tribute to his mother.
“Diabetes personally impacted my life when my mother lost a leg due to complications associated with the disease,” he told us. “Now, I consider it my mission to increase awareness of diabetes and to promote healthy lifestyles for youth and young adults.”
At 9 a.m. today, DeKalb County Commissioner Lee May will recognize Davis and the foundation at a ceremony in the Manuel Maloof Auditorium, 1300 Commerce Drive in Decatur.
“His hands-on work in Georgia serves as an example of the positive change one individual can make when they dedicate their time, energy and resources to any idea,” May said.

It has been a pleasure serving on the board and fulfilling the mission of the Chauncey Davis Foundation.
