jimmy smith is a journalist, too. doing journalism makes jimmy smith happy. not doing journalism makes jimmy smith sad. soon, terence will not be doing journalism here and some will be happy and some will be sad. that's why journalism is so complex. nothing but beet writers left at the ajc - even the hip hop reporter is gone. last journalist out the ajc door, please turn off the lights.

With this bullpen, NOTHING is possible for the Braves. It's one thing to lose. Everyone does. It's another to be a good team that is cut off at the knees by a bullpen that isn't qualified to put on major league uniforms. PERIOD.

McCann is a fine player but he isn't a pitcher. That's the glaring weakness.

I like Mac. Always have.

But the Braves don't stand a chance in the East........ starting pitching is good (better than last year) but not nearly god enough, middle relief is horrible, Chipper is a Wuss, KJ makes way too many errors, Shafer looks like he needs to go back to the minors (not quite ready for prime-time pitching, and well- Francouer looks like he's going to put in his prototypical 260 type year.

McCann compares favorably so far with other HOFer catchers. He only has to last. A great hitting catcher is such a valuable assett, a really underrated offensive position. It's defensively important, but it's a learned skills position, like first base. It doesn't require a five-tool player.

I don't remember who said it, about Cox's bullpen fetish, but you are absolutely right. The Braves perennial bullpen probs are more a byproduct of use than talent. No pitching staff is deep enough to go four, five pitchers every day.

McCANN IS A TERRIFIC CATCHER.THE BRAVES HAVE THE TALENT WITH HIM TO WIN THE EAST BUT AS I PREDICTED,THEY WON'T BECAUSE CHIPPER JONES WILL MISS 50-60 GAMES WITH MYSTERIOUS INJURIES. ALREADY 6 GAMES INTO THE SEASON HE'S ALREADY TAKING DAYS OFF WITH LITTLE SO CALLED INJURIES
