Kiffin knocks Gators, so what’s the big deal?

Leave that man alone.

Well, this time.

The way things are going for Lane Kiffin, the self-inflicted tackling dummy during his first weeks as head football coach at the University of Tennessee, there will be a next time. There also will be a few more times after that.

As for this time, Kiffin was absolutely right to tell our Michael Carvell that he is done apologizing to Florida and everybody else over his erroneous comments about Gators coach Urban Meyer and his recruiting practices.

Remember? During a recruiting breakfast last month, Kiffin boasted to Tennessee supporters (note: Tennessee supporters) that Meyer tried to “cheat” and still didn’t get wide receiver prospect Nu’Keese Richardson. That’s because Richardson stiff-armed Florida down the stretch before sprinting to Tennessee.

It turns out that, contrary to what Kiffin told those Tennessee supporters (note: Tennessee supporters), Meyer didn’t violate an NCAA rule when he phoned Richardson during a recruiting trip to Tennessee.

So help me out. Where’s the controversy here? Kiffin was talking to a bunch of … Tennessee supporters.

Have you ever been to one of these booster-type events for an average college team from a power conference? They are pep rallies that often go over the top, with the head coach serving as school mascot, drum major, standup comic, resident psychologist, PR man and grand poobah between talking X’s and O’s.

They say stuff. They say silly stuff. Then, during one of the few times when some or all of their stuff gets into the public domain, they say predictable stuff — such as, “I didn’t say that,” or “I was misquoted,” or “I was taken out of context.”

Even Kiffin tried to back away from his words to Tennessee supporters (note: Tennessee supporters) by telling Carvell, “It was not as bad (as it was made out to be). I didn’t mean any disrespect toward the University of Florida or Coach Meyer.”

Yes, Kiffin did, but so what? He was saying that stuff to Tennessee supporters.

It happens.

I can hardly wait for the college football season to start, though I love march madness and the braves. When Lane Kiffin gets his rear end handed to him and the Big Orange nation I will laughing my head off. I never liked Phil Fulmer either, he would drop a dime on every coach in the SEC in order to land a few good recruits. ROLLLLL TIDE!!!!

Kiffin was right to call Oscar Meyer aka Urban Cryer a cheater. He is that and more. He offered a gymnastics scholarship to a potential player’s girlfriend, he constantly calls recruits while they visit other schools, he leads the NCAA with the most players arrested, and flat-out lied to Jevan Snead about recruiting Tebow as a tight-end. Mike Slive has lacked the stones to reel Cryer in given his success on the football field. I think what really burns the UF faithful is that Kiffin is acting like Spurrier used to and for once, they are on the receiving end. I love it!! Go get ‘em Kiffin!!

I hope Kiffin is renting, his time at Tennessee wil be short lived like Oakland.

The guy is an absolute idiot, but considering Tennessee is the “dummy” school of the SEC, he fits in nicely.

Lane Kiffin has done what nobody has in about 15 years… make Al Davis look like a genius.

Thanks Terrance! Another article about Tennessee helps our cause greatly. And, you are right. It’s not a big deal. The media hounds and the rival fans have acted like Kiffin has planned a terrorist attack or something. This is nothing more than rival school fodder.

Hey “Steve”. He didn’t say the “gas pumping” thing. Even the recruit acknowledged that. Haven’t you wondered why his high school coach has gone into hiding since this was reported? Reason … it was all a big fat lie! Just somebody trying to stir the pot. His coach should be the one who is called into question.

I can’t wait until Kiffin gets all the players that he needs to kick some butt in the SEC. Get ready boys and girls, the Big Orange is on its way back. Deal with it! Go Vols, Go!!!!!

It’s funny but the only people I see defending this guy is Tennessee fans that have no choice but to hope against hope and this columnist…the rest of the 10 million of us see him for exactly what he is…a Steve Spurrier wanna be (I see that he even wears the visor). He’s one of those guys who was born on third base and claimed he hit a triple. Daddy better be a hell of a coach!

Terence you’re such a douche…..and that’s all I have to say about dat.

On the subject of running up the score….why is it that when the Gator “Evil Genus” beats UGA 52-17 “between the hedges” and Urban’s Gators beat UGA 49-10 It’s “RUNNING-UP the SCORE, RUBBING IT IN, Lack OF CLASS, etc.”, but when UGA beats Florida 75-0 and UGA beats GA Tech 50-3 it’s showing UGA coaches characteristics of “Fairness, Class, Christanity, etc.”?
Just wondering!
GO GATORS!
