Giving Thanks & Clean Old Fashioned Hate

As the Thanksgiving week winds down, I’d like to give “thanks” to the readers who remembered that this is a “fan” blog and not an AJC “beat” blog.  My mandate with this blog has been to write it from a fan perspective.  That’s been admittedly tough at times this season as the team has stumbled and not played up to expectations.  And people seem to take exception when I bash UGA or the SEC in general…which is something every good GT fan should do.

But really…thanks for reading anyways!

So what else am I thankful for?

  • I’m thankful that I’m a Tech Man (Class of 1994) rather than a red-clad mutt simply cheering for the popular state school because its easy to do.
  • I’m thankful that I have two beautiful daughters I can dress in White and Gold.
  • I’m thankful that they both cheer for the “brave and bold” and request the GT fight song be sung at bedtime each night.
  • I’m thankful that the Jackets play in the historic Bobby Dodd Stadium at Historic Grant Field rather than a concrete cesspool.
  • I’m thankful that the Jackets weren’t even mentioned as a contender for the Fulmer Cup…much less crowned the winner.
  • I’m thankful that Tech players spend more time in study hall than remedial driver’s education classes.
  • I’m thankful that Tech’s defensive coordinator doesn’t trash talk players or make choking motions at opposing kickers.
  • I’m thankful that Tech’s athletic director wasn’t replaced in a disgraceful display of inebriated idiocy.

And today I’m especially thankful that a little Clean Old Fashioned Hate truly IS good for the soul…

So what about the game tonight?

I think the Jackets have historically played MUCH better as a disrespected underdog than as a favorite.

Quite honestly, Tech often stinks the joint up when we’re considered a strong favorite.

And for this reason…I have a good feeling about tonight’s game in Athens.

Noone is giving the Jackets much of a shot in this game, which is why I think we’ll win.

A few factors to consider…

  • UGA has struggled to install the 3-4 defense nearly as much as we have and has been burned by option attacks and mobile QBs.
  • Anthony Allen and Orwin Smith have become impact players with the football down the back stretch this season and the Jackets lead the nation in rushing offense.
  • UGA has struggled getting their running game on track this season and generally rely on AJ Green for big play potential.
  • GT, for all its problems on D, has been able to control most of the top receivers we’ve faced this season.  Only Leonard Hankerson (Miami) really got loose for big yards.

This game will come down to special teams, field position, and who can control ownership of the clock.

Tech wins if the offense stays on track converting third downs and our special teams avoids any game altering gaffes.

UGA wins if they get on top early and start feeding Ealy and King the ball to soak up clock and keep the GT offense on the bench.

Ultimately I suggest that Tech fans embrace the role of underdog today…that seems to be when the Jackets play their best…

What’s the Good Word?

To Hell With Georgia!

Go Jackets!  Beat UGA!

As a GT alum, I can honestly say Tech sucks this year. I bet my whole paycheck that UGA covers tonight. Gonna be a good night for the dawgs.

Referring to another school as a cesspool is absolutely classless. I’m a UGA fan with plenty of family and friends who are Tech fans and we treat each other with respect. Maybe the AJC should be a little more discriminating when chosing a person to write these blogs.

layinlow–What Chris said is mild compared to all the classless things I’ve read coming from uga fans. So if you can’t take it stay off Tech blogs. Chris, everything you wrote is exactly the way it is. Go Jackets!

layinlow….lighten up Francis! UGA fans call our stadium, the “Joke by Coke” and we call your stadium the ‘Cesspool of the South”. NEITHER are very complimentary…ask Bill King, he’ll tell ya!

layin- did you even read the first 2 sentences or were you so excited to post on another teams blog you simply skipped that part? Here ya go little fella. See below.

Now was that so hard. Jeez some of you dog fans are so ignorant.

considering our defense can’t pressure anyone, i don’t see us winning unless we luck out and knock murray out.

But uga is the cesspool of the south

Ga Tech Fans – It is only the UGA fans who never attended the university that think that UGA is a National Championship contender every year and they are the idiots who are calling for Mark Richt to be fired. I am hoping that it is a good game and is competitive up until the end but I have to root for my team and say “Go Dawgs!!!.” Good luck tonight and may the better team win.

@Brock: I don’t think it’s possible to block anyone. Since a poster can change his/her name and enter a phony e-mail address they can get back on and post all they want. And blocking IP addresses is out of the question. Fans of both sides have to suffer the fools and morons who see fit to bless us with their “wit.”

Yellow Jackets had their way with porous UGA defense except when it counted most. FG would have lifted Georgia Tech to deserved victory. Bulldogs worse 6-6 team than Georgia Tech! No real comparison. That said…

I am thankful for another Dawg win. I am thankful that I don’t have to read scores from St. Simons, Tax Jacket, m and Real Old Gold. Yes, it was an ugly win, but a WIN OVER OUR DREADED RIVAL. I am thankful we own Tech in every way. There are NO moral victories. You guys are losers once again and can crow about winning the stats battle all you want to. The truth is you could not beat Mark Richt’s worst team ever.

Enjoy Shreveport, LA. I am sure your fanbase will show up big with about 1,000 fans to celebrate another bowl loss. It is called Karma, and you guys deserve it.

I am grateful that I went to the greatest school in the state.
that I was never robbed while walking to class
that whenever I go back to campus there are pretty girls to look at
that the last five Governors graduated from UGA
that we dominate our in-state rival academically and athletically
One Rhodes Scholar from a Georgia school, guess which school
