Tech at the Half Way Point
I thought Doug’s mid season report was pretty much spot on.
I do think he missed one thing that’s important…the lack of a consistent pass rush and an ability to stop the run early in the season.
If the Jackets are going to survive the upcoming gauntlet of Clemson, Virginia Tech, and Miami the defense must continue to improve and sort out the issues that continue at both the inside and outside linebacker positions. Nose tackle is pretty much what it is. We have some good players there, but they’re a little under sized. The inside linebackers have to take up the slack and the outside linebackers have to deliver more pressure.
ACC Coastal Standings down the Back Stretch
The Jackets currently have the most wins on the ACC Coastal side of the conference at 3-1 but Virginia Tech “leads” by virtue of a 2-0 undefeated conference record. Miami and North Carolina are in the rear view mirror at 1-1 in conference play.
While the Jackets face Middle Tennessee State this weekend the Hokies, Canes, and Heels will all face conference opponents:
For some reason, I like our chances against Clemson next weekend. Maybe its the fact that I’ll be attending that game.
A win over Clemson would put the Jackets at 4-1 when we travel to Blacksburg to face the likely 4-0 Hokies.
I expect the top of the ACC Coastal standings will look as follows:
Yes…the GT vs VT tilt will once again have a huge impact on the ACC Coastal representative in the conference title game.
Florida State looks like they are going to run off and hide on the ACC Atlantic side of the equation. Jackets vs Noles in Charlotte NC would be fun!
Did Mark Richt Really Say That?!?!
I swore to myself that I wouldn’t focus too much on UGA until the big game at the end of the season, but a recent Richt quote warrants comment.
In Tim Tucker’s recent blog entry, detailing Caleb King’s arrest, we get the following nugget of insight into the UGA program and the man in control.
“Getting a speeding ticket, not paying it and not showing up for a court date is certainly not a very responsible thing, but I can’t say it’s some kind of awful act that we all should just be ashamed of,” Richt said.
Ummm…excuse me Coach…breaking the law, failing to pay your fine, and then further failing to show up in court most certainly is something to be ashamed of! Its a combination of the following…1) a willful act of breaking the law, 2) an apparent lack of remorse or responsibility in not paying the fine, and 3) the mistaken assumption that the rules don’t apply and that you won’t be held accountable.
A recent redandblack.com article results in even more uncertainty about King’s laissez-faire attitude towards personal responsibility.
Maybe UGA ultimately dodged a bullet with Zack Witchett being kicked off his high school team. Of course that assumes Richt pulls the scholarship offer. If Witchett enrolls at UGA they’ll effectively be accepting a pair of high school recruits (remember Christian Lemay?) that were in trouble before they even put on their silver britches for the first time.
When you throw bad apples into a barrel, sometimes they all get a little rotten taint in the end…know what I mean?

yeah, according to you pencil necks, Caleb’s a disgrace for forgetting to pay a speeding ticket, but Reuben Houston got caught trying to help move 100 pounds of weed, and he not only got to stay on the team, he got introduced with everyone else at senior night. Just another proud GTU tradition. Didnt the pizza brawlers break a coed’s jaw, but Mike Mooney had to sit out spring practice?

Hey Truth Hurts proves exactly why dog fans are idiots.
1) Truth Hurts is wrong about the degree being worthless, but an undergrad degree from uga isn’t worth much. They’ve got a bunch of relatively strong grad programs, but even schools like their law school are far from top tier. The undergrad school is just a place where semi-intelligent Georgia residents can go to get a cheap education. It’s a beautiful campus and a great place to go to undergrad, but really merely a middle of the pack college education. That’s not saying the top students won’t go on to do well (because the same can be said most places), but the average student at uga is not destined for greatness. I didn’t go to GT, but the average student there comes out a sought after engineer.
2) There is little correlation between the contributions to a charity and most fans having “good jobs.” First, you are assuming that everyone spends equally proportionate amounts of their income on football donations. Someone making 50,000 a year who cares about little else other than uga football may spend 20% of his or her money to get season tickets, while someone at GT may care more about academics and donate their money accordingly. At GT’s recent homecoming, some of the classes individually raised tens of millions of dollars in donations. That’s not toward football, that’s toward the school itself, and that’s a single graduating class. Second, you are assuming that most fans make donations, when the reality is that a lot of them don’t. Third, again I’m going to disagree with Truth Hurts, a lot of uga grads do have good jobs. A lot of them are my colleagues. But there tons who don’t have good jobs. Take, for example, the law school placement rate – only 9/10 law school grads have a job six months after they graduate. In classes of over 230, that means almost 25 uga law students EVERY YEAR can’t find a job once they graduate. Compare that to Emory’s 96.7% or Duke’s 100% and tell me uga is a great school where everyone gets good jobs.

Nice to know that a buzz head bases his facts at UGA off of assumptions. I am also sure that he always drives the speed limit and is a great law abiding citizen. King is stupid for what he did and is now dealing with the consequences. I guess you guys think that Josh or is it little bot Joshua is perfect. Know the facts and state them before you make the assumption. But, I guess you do not quite understand what happens when you assume.. It makes an a$& out of u!

Someone asked who Chris Boggs is anyway. Well, he is another feminine male who writes for the trade school and all it’s promise! He also giggles a lot, and is most likely a veteran of the giggle piles that are a trademark of the school. These guys were probably this way before they got to a school where the good looking women can sit at one four place table in the cafeteria. They quite naturally lean toward “male companionship”.
I am sure the gutless Boggs will delete this before it is published or soon after. Gutless. It’s OK to talk about someone else, but not about him.

Ahhhh… I see the obsession with the dawgs is ripe tonight.. So , tell me techies, you losers have a conference game, AT HOME, and lo and behold, its NOWHERE to be found on t.v. last week.. You know what terrific football programs did have t.v. time? Elon, App. State, FIU, and so on.. THAT speaks volumes about your sorry little program. Besides, the ONLY time you geeks sell out that tiny 5A high school stadium, is every other year when the BIG DAWGS come rollin into town! Must be nice, being a big time program and all.. Beat us more than ONCE a DECADE if you don’t want us coming on your blogs (ones with our coach in the title even more so) and rubbing your faces in it. AND that’s if you don’t count the vacated wins from using SEVERAL uneligible players in the games before that streak started. Tech—> Big time? Not so fast my maggots.

Now THATS SAD, when you have to filter out NUMBERS. lololol He looks like the tickle pile commander in chief, if it wasn’t for Paul “Double D’s” Johnson.. This year, instead of bigger fish to fry, he’ll have bigger bras to fill. Go suck a Doug losers. You’ve earned every bit of the trashing your program gets. Hey numnutts, if you overstand anything, a speeding ticket is breaking a statute/ordinance, not law. And there is no shame in not recognizing such trivial ordinances when no one’s property or person was hurt as a result of someone going a few extra miles per minute

IF King was the ONLY player for this team to get arrested, it wouldn’t be that big of a deal…when he is one of ELEVEN players…it SHALL be mentioned. Consider it slumming…that’s ALL Boggs was doing.

honest and frank discussion,
Your comments about Robert Hall are pretty sad. Charges were dropped. I get that, but he still beat up a woman. Which means? There are no excuses for doing that and no guy should beat up a woman.
Hate to agree with the uga fans on here, but the obession is a bit much.
To the person about saying we will beat clemson easily,
We havent beaten any team easily. This team is a train reck. Play ok one week, play bad a whole game until the last two minutes of the game, beat a team dressed like pumpkins.
It will be up and down the rest of the season and this team will be a week by week process to how the season ends up.

…according to US News and World Report 2010 rankings, UGA’s law school was ranked #28 (tied with UNC, UWisconsin, and UC-Davis), while Georgia State’s law school was ranked #50. But, as said before, don’t let the facts get in the way of a good rant…
And, regarding your comments about the UGA and the Tech business schools, my original comments were toward undergraduate admissions – but, again, don’t let the facts get in the way of your rant…
Hey, Honest and Frank......
October 15th, 2010
7:44 am
…which are you, honest or frank?
Regarding your comment “you are assuming that most fans make donations, when the reality is that a lot of them don’t” – what a totally uninformed comment – EVERY ticket to a UGA football game involves a donation to the HArtmann Fund for every seat – I believe you are confusing your statement with the Tech program where some (A LOT) football seats can be bought without any contribution to anything Tech related.
So, as stated elsewhere, don’t let facts get in the way of a good rant…
Finally, you also wrote of UGA “The undergrad school is just a place where semi-intelligent Georgia residents can go to get a cheap education” – In reality (meaning this is another fact getting in the way of your rant) Tech ($7560 tuition & fees) costs less to attend than UGA ($8700+ tuition & fees), even though both at state supported schools – so, at Tech you get a bigger bang for your buck since, admittedly, Tech has better academics.
Yet, that still does not explain why UGA admission rejects are accepted at Tech…

I don’t care what classes a kid takes in college. I don’t care what he does at night. I don’t care if he get’s speeding tickets or fails to show up for class. He’s a college student. What he does is his business and his parents, and his coach if he’s a football player. It means nothing to me and shouldn’t be played out in the media.
I watch the football team on Saturday. I have no personal investment in what these kids do in their PRIVATE lives.
I use this simple measuring stick- What if this was my kid? Would I want the media deciding wether or not he gets kicked out of school. Would I want the coach to do what is best for my kid or do what the media and public thinks he should do.
Take care of your own house.

How many kids at UGA or Tech got DUI’s this year? How many got kicked of those got kicked out of classes or asked to leave school?
It only matters to you because they play football and the media writes it up in the paper.

Arrests are just a sensitive subject for the dawgs. Tis understandable!

If these kids are representatives of their institutions, then they should be receiving paychecks. Until then, their just college students. Some of those cheerleaders and band members are on scholorship. They don’t make headlines when they get speeding tickets. They are also “representatives”. It’s all about sensationalism. It’s all about having something bad to say about a University, even at the expense of a young man’s life.

Had Caleb King been the ONLY arrest this season it might have gotten a mention (Noteworthy because 92,746 people come to see him run the ball) in the back pages of the sports page. Being the eleventh arrest this season…it becomes front page news. I’m willing to bet that he’s getting a paycheck in the form of an education…it appears he has much more to learn. Hopefully, he’s learned THIS lesson.

The gripe about the paper reporting the child porn offender as a UGA student may be the dumbest thing I’ve read on a blog yet, and that is some pretty tough competition. If it was just an Athens man, you would be all over the AJC if they didn’t clarify he wasn’t affiliated with UGA in any way. Can’t have it both ways.
I do agree with the UGA fans on here that it is there business how the UGA program is run. If they cannot see how it is impacting the football team, then I’m all for them continuing down this road. Truth is, that team hasn’t been the same since the Florida touchdown dance and may very well be the eventual downfall of Richt if he cannot establish control. I for one hope it takes them a while to figure it out because its been entertaining as hell.

The “hood” around Ga Tech is rated as the seventh most dangerous neighborhood in the US and we still have less arrests than the UGA football team. That is sad. Lemay and Witchunt will still be on the UGA roster next year. Win at all cost.
