Orange Bowl Thoughts: Blame it on the O

Fourth Quarter

This one is on the offense and on Paul Johnson for waiting until halftime to make any adjustments.

The defense played their hearts out in the second and third quarters, but buckled late in the fourth because the offense couldn’t stay on the field in the fourth.

The game was always within reach, until the very end…the offense just couldn’t reach out and take it.

And yes…kudos to the Iowa defense…its was as good as advertised.

Third Quarter

Johnson has made some obvious changes offensively and we are moving the ball finally.  The missed FG may hurt, but at least we are showing signs of life.

Defense played well again.  Only surrendered three points in the past two quarters.  If they can continue to gut it out, we have a chance to make this very interesting at the end…

Penalties are killing us though.  Gotta cut those out.

Half Time

The defense is actually keeping the Jackets in this game at this point.  To Wommack’s credit, the D locked down in the second quarter and played well, keeping Iowa from stretching their lead.

Noone on the offensive side of the ball has decided to block anyone tonight.

Its becoming obvious why Iowa was 9-0 and a serious BCS contender when Stanzi went down with his injury.  The Jackets are getting the best Iowa has to offer.  We’re lucky to only be down 14-7.

Coach Johnson better coach ‘em up at the half and figure out some way to move the ball on offense.  We can’t rely on the defense to do everything in this one…

End of the First Quarter

Iowa Leads 14-7

Iowa’s defensive line is the real deal and the Hawkeye linebackers are cleaning up.

Joseph Gilbert has committed two huge penalties…a false start on the first dive play where it looked like Dwyer would have been running forever and then a chop block which put us in long yardage and forced us to punt from deep in our territory.

Jerrard Tarrant is feast or famine right now…caused a fumble and returned an INT for a TD…but he’s also being victimized by Stanzi and gave up both of Iowa’s first quarter scores.

Johnson and Wommack better start coaching real quick before this thing gets away from us.

More thoughts coming up at the half…

Ugh! The O-line should be embarassed. Unreal. Do these guys block? Every starter should sit the 1st series next half. Lookit, Iowa’s corners aren’t even respecting the receivers since they’re helping stop the pitch man. Adjust coaches!! The D must start getting dirty and stop trying to look beautiful.

Nesbitt HAS to pass sooner or later. Short gainers just to show something different. Open up some room. Still, Iowa doesn’t look better than Clemson IMHO and I still think we’re going to win this one. They’re defense looks soooo much better not having to defend the pass.

It’s ugly, but you keep waiting for the explosion. Go Jackets!

30-24 and nice building block for a BCS NC ! More like a building block for the Pop Warner championship. Nesbit looked stellar at 1 for 6 for 10 yards. Get used to it M and St. Simons, you pathetic nerds !

Congrats to Iowa. Very well coached and disciplined team.

Probably the biggest factor in this game was the 30 days or so that they had to prepare for the triple option.

Congrats to Tech on a very good season.

Hahahahahahahahahahaha. What a glorious day. Someone told me after the Kentucky loss that things could be worse…and they certainly could. I could be a Tech fan!! Granted, Tech won a mid-major conference championship in front of fewer fans than regularly show up for a Valdosta high school game, and cemented their place as the 4th or 5th best team in the SEC East, but kudos for that. 30-24 was really sweet. The #20 Jackoffets losing to the hapless Dawgs tonight was classic. But the vaunted CPJ offense managing a paltry 7 points en route to a loss to Big Ten team in the Orange Bowl was just icing on the cake. Thanks for the memories furry insects. At least you’re good for something.

The offense stalled because we are too small up front to move anyone! We need to find 300+ pounders that can run this offense because from what I just watch 280 just doesnt cut it! We were pushed around all game and noone ever blocked an Iowa linebacker! We need some beef on the D-line as well, Derrick Morgan can do it all by himself! It seems like we have him and 3 division 1AA guys on the line! Im pissed, but if PJ wants to start winning major bowl games he definatley needs to sure up the lines!

Rough game as Iowa looked good. Great season overall though. For next season hopefully we can establish an effective passing game 10 to 25 or so a game hitting 60% to 70%. It seemed like we kept it too close to the tackles early on and on the short side of the field instead of using one on one in open field and stretching the field one to two times to Thomas and Hill. We have to hit the best odds of passing game to open the option up against these tough defenses. Defense played great at least half the game to keep us in it. But we still can’t stop the cut back run. Hopefull the redshirts, incoming recruits and Taylor, Jackson coming back will help with defense. All three of our losses it felt like we were getting blown out but still had a chance with two minutes left in the game. So 20-7 for first two years is incredible. Keep it going.

30-24 Forcing Paul Johnson to scrap his high school offense, GA tek Heisman hopeful Josh Nesbitt threw 4 incomplete passes as wounded ducks to end the game. It was a devastating loss, leaving Paul Johnson to tell the GA tek fans (both of them) to hit UGA fans in the face. This is a POOR SPORT. This, while, Coach Richt beat GA tek for the 8th time in 9 years of 90-27 football including 2 BCS Bowl Championship Game WINS. GA tek has not won a Major Bowl Game since 1955, a span now in excess of 55 years. It also marked the 60th defeat of GA tek football and coupled with their bowl loss to bring Paul Johnson to 0-2 in bowl games, while Coach Richt is 7-2, it is a bitter pill to swallow for a football team at GA tek under Paul Johnson who has a far worse Academic Progress Rate APR than Coach Richt’s football team’s APR. The better coach ? By far Coach Richt.

It has been a BAD YEAR for GA Tek. A complete clean sweep. In all major sports UGA has far exceeded the Academic Progress Rate of GA tek. And, oh yeah, while we are on the topic, we have BEAT GA tek for this year :

73-66 men’s basketball UGA wins over GA tek.

56-50 women’s basketball UGA wins over GA tek

30-24 football UGA wins over GA tek.

A day to go down in Infamy for GA tek. It could not have happened to a worse group of losers, thugs, college drop-outs and POOR SPORTS. Congratulations GA tek, a clean sweep, in every possible fashion.

73-66 UGA Bulldogs’ Men’s Basketball team, with a far better Academic Progress Rate APR than GA tek’s men’s basketball thugs, beat GA Tek tonight 73-66. GA tek suffers only a 914 APR, and Paul Hewitt who has a LOSING RECORD to UGA Bulldogs, has been put on NCAA PROBATION with only 11 Scholarships allowed. GA tek has not beat UGA in Athens since 1976. Who has the better coach ? Clearly, UGA’s new basketball coach Mark Fox, who does NOT have a LOSING RECORD to GA tek as GA tek’s coach Paul Hewitt always has bad against UGA Bulldogs both on the court and in the classroom. Our players are NOT thugs. “This team still has a pretty high ceiling,” Paul Hewitt said. That is a POOR SPORT. He should congratulate UGA on a not so surprising victory at all. Paul Hewitt is now 4-6 vs. UGA. Paul Hewitt is a bad coach and would have been fired years ago at UGA. At GA tek, they try to cover up his NCAA PROBATION and NCAA limiting him to just 11 Scholarships.

56-50 Women’s Basketball UGA Lady Bulldogs also have a far higher Academic Progress Rate than the GA tek women’s basketball team. Also, UGA Lady Bulldogs have NEVER lost to GA tek in Athens in women’s basketball. The GA tek coach, after last year refusing to shake Andy Landers’ hand after he beat the crap out of her team, this year did. It resonated throughout the college sports what a horrible POOR SPORT MaChelle Joseph is as GA tek’s women’s basketball coach. The score this year was 56-50. The better coach ? Without any doubt Coach Andy Landers.

AWESOME and BEAUTIFUL. Loved it!!! Sometimes things just happen, regardless of the media hype. It happened last season with MSU, when everyone thought they would loose against, first USC, then Kansas, Kentucky and then Uconn. Things happen on any given game or season. Iowa deserved it today.

Tech football – you guys waited almost 50 years to go to a major bowl to look like that? Wow….I can think of about 14 million reasons why Tech should be embarrased Oh wait! There is a new sheriff in town! Or was that a genius? Hmmm. Can’t remember! One thing is for sure…high school offenses are soon figured out and NOBODY who has any pro potential will want to play at Tech with that system ….this is the best talent you will ever have – whatever was left there before you hired your “new sheriff”…enjoy the year – it is the best one Tech will have under CPJ – “Please don’t punch me in the mouth” Oh, I’m sorry, you ended the year with two teams doing that to you!

Sean, I can tell you from experience that it’s not good to “lick” wounds. It keeps them from healing really good. Letting them air dry and scab over is better. If you have one of those clear little vented bandages it’s really cool too, because you can see it dry out and it doesn’t really look like a bandage at all, because it’s — well, uh, um… clear.

Yella Bugs showed up with big ego and small talent, problem for them is they play liitle league schedule, ACC, FCS team on probation for APR and two lowest ranked teams in SEC and think they are power. Clemson and VA Tech did the conference proud winning against much lower ranked teams from SEC. PJ better realize that winning ACC doesn’t mean much, gotta play with the BIG, Fast and Strong in this playground, what a way to end a season two BIGGGGGGGGGGG losses. How will that look to recruits. Hey recruits, watch the big game last night? What an impressive performance. Two (2) pass completions all night. Wow! Why in the world would any potential offensive recruit want to be a part of such a gimmick, high-school offense.
