This one is on the offense and on Paul Johnson for waiting until halftime to make any adjustments.
The defense played their hearts out in the second and third quarters, but buckled late in the fourth because the offense couldn’t stay on the field in the fourth.
The game was always within reach, until the very end…the offense just couldn’t reach out and take it.
And yes…kudos to the Iowa defense…its was as good as advertised.
Johnson has made some obvious changes offensively and we are moving the ball finally. The missed FG may hurt, but at least we are showing signs of life.
Defense played well again. Only surrendered three points in the past two quarters. If they can continue to gut it out, we have a chance to make this very interesting at the end…
Penalties are killing us though. Gotta cut those out.
The defense is actually keeping the Jackets in this game at this point. To Wommack’s credit, the D locked down in the second quarter and played well, keeping Iowa from stretching their lead.
Noone on the offensive side of the ball has decided to block anyone tonight.
Its becoming obvious why Iowa was 9-0 and a serious BCS contender when Stanzi went down with his injury. The Jackets are getting the best Iowa has to offer. We’re lucky to only be down 14-7.
Coach Johnson better coach ‘em up at the half and figure out some way to move the ball on offense. We can’t rely on the defense to do everything in this one…
End of the First Quarter
Iowa Leads 14-7
Iowa’s defensive line is the real deal and the Hawkeye linebackers are cleaning up.
Joseph Gilbert has committed two huge penalties…a false start on the first dive play where it looked like Dwyer would have been running forever and then a chop block which put us in long yardage and forced us to punt from deep in our territory.
Jerrard Tarrant is feast or famine right now…caused a fumble and returned an INT for a TD…but he’s also being victimized by Stanzi and gave up both of Iowa’s first quarter scores.
Johnson and Wommack better start coaching real quick before this thing gets away from us.
More thoughts coming up at the half…
