2009 ACC Conference Champions!

Well fellow Tech fans…we’re Orange Bowl bound!

The Jackets prevailed in a tough, hard fought game against the Tigers tonight.

It was a game typical of many of our past experiences playing Clemson. These things always come down to the end…its rarely an easy win for either team.   Both teams went down swinging.   No lack of effort on either sideline.

Scott Blair and Josh Nesbitt were the heroes for the Jackets tonight, but the real star was CJ Spiller in a losing effort.

Spiller cranked out 301 all purpose yards against a defense that quite honestly stunk it up for most of the game.  (But that’s a topic for another blog.)

Right now…lets just bask in the glow of the ACC Title, which was the team’s #1 goal all season long.

This was a program boosting victory tonight…and a signal that with a few improvements (on defense) the Jackets are more than capable of playing for all the marbles under Paul Johnson’s leadership.

Go Jackets!

#1 priority – replace Dave Wommack.
Good win though, happy to be in the Orange Bowl despite a bad defence. (players ok, DC bad)

There is nothing more satisfying than to watch Tim Tebow cry on the sidelines.

Even if we didn’t have anything to do with it.

He will NEVER be drafted in the NFL as a damn Quarterback.

Florida will NOT play Alabama in the B.S. MNCG as a re-match.

While The SEC CHAMPionship Game dominated the day, how about those other conferences ?

Big XII totally sucks.

Texas has beat NO TEAM who is a Ranked Team.

The Big 10 obviously sucks.

The PAC-10 sucks.

The ACC continues to suck.

The Big East only sucks.

Congratulations Alabama. Your 22nd SEC Championship.

I rooted for Alabama from the start to finish.

I picked Alabama.

I Guaranteed Alabama was the better football team than Florida, who played no one and ran up its stats playing no one.

Florida played 1 ranked team all season long, Number 13 LSU and beat them 13-3. Other than that, Florida beat no Ranked Team.

SoS shows Alabama Number 5 in the nation.

SoS for Texas is Number 31 and Texas didn’t even PLAY a Game against a Top 25 team all season long.

SEC Wins The National Championship, and it will be Alabama’s 18th National Championship.

I think many voters will have a hard damn time pitting Texas with that weak schedule of having NOT EVEN PLAYED A TOP 25 TEAM, as Number 2.

30-24, the ACC CHUMPionship Game was played in yet another empty stadium. Tampa, and the game GAVE AWAY TICKETS and still could not fill the stadium. Next year, the nomad ACC CHUMPionship Game will be played in Charlotte. Again, there will not be an ACC Top 10 team in the AP Poll nor in the USA Today Coaches’ Poll.

Way to go Alabama. Roll Tide, Roll.

I am VERY excited, pumped up & concerned!

Crazy question after securing a BCS spot (Orange Bowl Baby); but is there any possible way we could replace Wommack this week. I am thinking Tenuta or possibly even Tubberville if these solid coaches would consider the job. With PJ running the offense and a solid defensive coordinator, GT could potentially be a serious contender each & every year!

If we could sign a solid guy really soon, he would have almost an entire month to work with the players……….the defense could not possibly be any worse than we currently place on the field & the team would have all of the extra practice time with the defensive coordinator of the future!

Sounds a little radical, but the GT defense has been steadily getting worse and worse almost every game since Tenuta left. Wommack & company rode the Tenuta wave for the first year, but there was a definite drop in production later in the season. This year the D has not improved week to week; if anything the D has been less and less potent as the season has progressed.

I sincerely hope D-Rad and Coach PJ both realize they need to make a change for the sake of the program (the sooner the better in my personal opinion!).

Go GT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great win. The drive with ~6 min to go was a championship drive. Great season. Would it have been nice to beat the dogs? Sure but just like PJ said it is not the most important thing. I am proud of the boys and happy to be a tech fan.

Wommack seems like a fine person, maybe GT can find a place for him as an assistant coach (or maybe he would be better suited coaching at a different team)…………I just think a solid defensive coordinator could do a better job with the talent GT has on the defensive side of the ball.

Coach PJ would probably love to have a really solid or great defensive coordinator; this would free him up to focus solely on the offense, special teams & the obvious duties which are required of the Head Coach.

It should be an appealling position. GT usually wins the time of possession (less time on the field for the defense) and I am fairly sure Coach PJ would let the new DC run the defense as he wants as long as the team plays well. The future of the GT football program is very bright. D-Rad is a superb atheletic director! Tommy Tuberville stated GT is a great place to coach………I say we inquire whether or not he would be interested in taking over the reigns as the DC! If not Tenuta would be an excellent choice! If not, I trust D-Rad & Coach PJ can find a solid defensive coordinator…………………my question is: Are they looking & planning to make a change??????

Of course, all true GT fans wanted to beat UGA; however, If someone told me GT could only win one or the other (UGA or Clemson in the ACC Championship game)…………………..the answer is obvious: we would rather win the ACC Championship and go to a BCS game every time!

I do wonder about the defensive play calling, but I do understand that the injuries have been a killer. If we were UGA, the sportswriters would have spent hours letting the whole world know of every injury, as if we were the only team with injured players, and then tell us how great the conference we play in is.

We do have a winning record under Paul Johnson against SEC Teams right.

BullDog, you upset because Georgia Tech is 11-2, ACC Champs and going to a BCS Bowl while your Bulldogs will only go to the Toilet Bowl? We are in the Top 10 in the BCS which is all that matters therefore UGA’s win was irrelevant, as is UGA’s team and most of the SEC in general this year. Also GT 2-1 vs. a subpar SEC this year. It will be fun watching Alabama lose again this year.. as they did to Utah a WEAK conference team last year… Poor UGA but seriously good luck on the Toilet Bowl! :-)

I was one of a huge crowd that waited for the GT team to come out of the stadium after the game to congratulate them. Job well done guys! I never saw so many beat up players either taped up, limping and/or on crutches.
It was so great being in Tampa! I also made a comment to Heather over on ESPN who picked Clemson asking her to please go cover some other bowl game besides ours. The atmosphere was electric and damn good game everybody!

To all those questioning our defense.. it’s not a question of coaching, but size and talent. We have some great players, but we get dominated up front by physical teams. Those boys played (and have played all year) with all they’ve got, but we need to get bigger and stronger up front. That is all.

29 percent of the Georgia Tech Student Body are women.

Women were not allowed to take all classes at the Georgia Institute of Technology until 1968.

The 1st Georgia Tech Women’s dormitory was not until 1969.

Georgia Tech, according to the AJ-C only, is a Top National University.

However, in fact, Georgia Tech is the Number 35 Top National University, about what the top ACC school is ranked in the AP Poll in the USA Today Coaches’ Poll and that is NOT GEORGIA TECH.

Number 35.

“We’re Number 35.”

No one claims to be Number 35 at nothing.

Crime continues to be the Number 1 problem on Campus.

This last weekend again, another DOZEN Georgia Tech students were victims of robbery inside their own living quarters.

When Tech students venture outside their home, they are attacked and have their laptop computers stolen from them on the streets of their own campus.

Women do not feel SAFE at Georgia Tech, and never have been safe at Georgia Tech.

This is the fact.

71 percent of the Tech students are men.

College of Liberal Arts is the fastest growing Georgia Tech college, yet Tech football fans act as if this does not even exist at Georgia Tech. Sure it does. It is the only college at Georgia Tech that actually leads the way in growth, but even here, the women make up only 29 percent of the student body at Georgia Tech.

Bachelor of Science in Liberal Arts ?

That what you want ?

Georgia Tech offers such a degree.

Georgia Tech students are heavily stressed and avail themselves of no social functions.

Stress is mostly from the crime on campus.

Stress also from the fact that Georgia Tech is now no longer as SELECTIVE in its ENROLLMENT as at UGA, for example. It is more likely that a student who applies to Georgia Tech will be accepted, than if he applies to The University of This Great State. And, the women are not about to go to Georgia Tech.

Never have.

Never will. It’s not safe and daddy would not let them go after he visits the slums of a city of 6 million, where the Tech campus is in fact located.

Tech should sell the land downtown and move to Gwinnett, as the AJ-C has recently done, with it now quicker for AJ-C reporters to get to UGA than to get to Georgia Tech.

“GETTING OUT” is what Georgia Tech students use as the phrase when they no longer are on the crime-ridden non-female campus.

21 percent of the Georgia Tech student body are in the Greeks. Buy your friends.

Minor crimes around Georgia Tech are commonplace, a reflection of the Institute’s densely populated urban surroundings. The most common crime reported over the last few years, by a large margin, is larceny. Between 2004 and 2006, there were only 32 violent crimes reported, most of them robberies. That the crime rate in Atlanta during the late 1980s and 1990s was the highest in the nation, is what has contributed so highly to the perception that Georgia Tech sits in the middle of the slums of one of the world’s worst crime-ridden areas. Yet, we are to send our children there, especially our girls. Yeah, right.

Georgia Tech is largely ignored even in the city of Atlanta where it is located. Students on campus are surrounded by the city, but the city does little to assist the students, or even to protect them.

With 10 times as many graduates of The University of Georgia living in Atlanta than there are Georgia Institute of Technology graduates living in Atlanta, it seems as if everyone is against Georgia Tech, adding to the biggest stress of all college students being in fact on Georgia Tech students. The lone local paper, AJ-C, tries to assist with this when asked to by Georgia Tech administration chiefly during enrollment periods, by seeking to have folks say “Well, I live here in Atlanta, I might as well root for Georgia Tech and go to the Georgia Tech sports venues to support Tech’s teams.”

The only problem with that is that the student-athletes at Georgia Tech are nothing like the rest of the Tech students.

Tech student-athletes currently are ON PROBATION WITH THE NCAA in men’s basketball, with the NCAA LIMITING Georgia Tech to ONLY 11 scholarships currently because the Georgia Tech student-athletes in men’s basketball have the LOWEST ACADEMIC PROGRESS RATE of all colleges in America.

Tech is supposed to be his great National University. Number 35.

Instead, the APR of Georgia Tech’s FOOTBALL team, men’s basketball team and women’s basketball team, are ALL LOWER than the APR for the student-athletes at UGA. And, UGA is FAR MORE SELECTIVE in applications to UGA both as a student-athlete and as a REGULAR STUDENT than is Georgia Tech ANY LONGER.

Common Sense is lacking in the curriculum of Georgia Tech according to its own students. Anyone reading the spins in retort to this article here by me, will see that common sense is something that does not register with Tech students.

Does it make common sense to go to the WebPages of UGA 10 times the size of your local alumni and brag how you are going to utterly destroy a team you have LOST to 60 times, and then return a week afterward and state that you do not feel that a 6-point LOSS is UGA destroying Tech ? That is so obvious that you Georgia Tech fans, said that you would destroy UGA, wait a week before you have the pair to even come back, and then offer up after a week to think about, that oh well, a 6-point loss is not destroying Tech, you tell UGA fans. It is not that you are that stupid to say that, you just lack the common sense that UGA students have to see right through it, that it was you who said you would destroy us, while our common sense fails to see how a 6-point LOSS is destroying us as not we said, but you.

Part of the reason why college life is supposed to be the happiest time of your life, is that you are challenged to think by others not like yourself. You are off away from home. You are confronted with opportunities to both better yourself and challenge yourself and opportunities in social growth by being surrounded as I, by 1000 women at Brumby Hall and 1,000 women at Creswell while I studied day and night at Russell Hall with a 1,000 men. At Tech, you are afraid to even go outside for all the crime. And, you are so stressed by the crime and the Georgia Institute of Technology with NO WOMEN at this critical juncture in your life that is supposed to be your happiest time in your life, as with UGA students on our beautiful campus, you end up without social graces as demonstrated on these WebPages by your every post.

Tech students even at Fraternities, lock their doors and do not even venture into the common areas.

UGA students are not like this, at all. Yet, we study as much if not more than Tech students.

So, what in the hell are the Tech students doing ?

There sure ain’t no women in there with them behind the locked doors.

The dating scene is dismal at best. And, it is not a good place for women, the number 1 stressed students in the nation of all National Universities, vastly Asian men, Nerds locked in their rooms doing God Knows What in what should be the happiest days of their life, and worrying stressing about the CRIME.

Even the brothers at the Fraternities are largely to themselves and no one really interacts with anyone else, even in the Frats.

Greek Geeks are Nerds too, and although they drink, that largely even do that by themselves.

The social life.

A BCS game, been there done that. See the thing is you have to win…been there done that! We “RUN THIS STATE”. Both of you guys would be sub par basement dwelling teams. You already lost to UGA 8-1. So what you beat vanderbuilt…LOL. Your happy about Duke or WF. VT gets smacked by the SEC every year. FSU cant by a win. Miami is really the best in the conference and that is not saying much. Tech Got whipped by them. By us. Next up, Orange bowl opponent.

The game looked pretty sparse…empty. I was wondering why they limited the full stadium shots. Another question…why does everyone try to hurt Nesbitt? He is an option QB. Your supposed to kill his a$$. Faily but kill him when ever possible. 1 thing I can say is, Tech fans are just happy to be there. Dont get blowed out in a bowl again!!!!

December 6th, 2009
5:25 am

Tech fans are quick to try to put a spin on this that it is Atlanta that has the CRIME, not Georgia Tech.

548 Burglaries at Georgia Tech and only 17 at Georgia State University.

This is what is really the facts are on the SLUMS Tech built its campus in.

Do you know what a BURGLARY is ?

BREAKING INTO a home and stealing possessions.

Oh boy. That’s not a lot of fun to have that happen to you while you are sleeping.

The half a dozen last weekend on Tech’s campus were all Tech students. The burglars broke into the LOCKED HOME. How much STRESS is that ? You are NOT EVEN SAFE at night in your LOCKED Georgia Tech residence. This is a horrible crime.

Heroin is so prevalent on Tech’s campus that there have been MULTIPLE DEATHS to Georgia Tech students from overdose.

1 even was a student-athlete at Georgia Tech. When his roommate at Tech came out and said it was a KNOWN ISSUE that the Tech student-athlete used Heroin, Georgia Tech coaches took him off the Tech team and refused to let him play sports for Georgia Tech.

Yes, this is STRESS.

So, thank you yellowjackets fans for running in here telling us that it is Athens where the crime is.

I will be certain to address this for you Tech fans.

Four caught vandalizing Buzz statues

ShareThisFour Tech students were caught on Oct. 23 for vandalizing one of the Buzz statues next to Bobby Dodd Stadium. The Georgia Tech Police Department responded to the scene and apprehended the students, who were seen walking toward the North Avenue Apartments, away from the broken Buzz statue.

The statue that was vandalized sits on Techwood Drive next to the stadium, directly across the street from Brittain dining hall. One of the students was seen by the police with a broken piece of the statue in his hand.

The students were all found to be intoxicated. According to the police report, they also admitted to having no reason or purpose for breaking the statue.

The students were not arrested at the scene, but they are currently being investigated by the Office of Student Integrity.

According to the police, it is up to the officer’s own discretion whether or not they want to arrest students and press charges. “If no charges are filed by the [responding officer, the case] is over on our end,” said Patrick Wypasek, deputy chief of police.

The police did, however, want to stress that while the students in this case were not arrested, this does not mean that people can get away with vandalism of the statues or of any Tech property without criminal repercussions.

“They got kind of lucky. I almost picked [up] the case myself. Charges could have been made,” said Police Captain Ronald Weaver.

According to the police, charges that could have been filed included criminal trespass or even second-degree property damage if the statue was valued at over $500.

The police gave some insight as to why criminal charges were not filed for the incident. They explained that at the time of the incident, it was unclear who actually owned the Buzz statues, whether it was the Alumni Association or the Institute itself. So, it was unclear who was the victim of the crime.

Additionally, the value of the statues was not immediately clear. Sponsors paid between $800 and $1,600 for the statues, and they are expected to be auctioned off in the near future.

This incident was the only report of anyone, not just students, vandalizing the Buzz statues that were placed across campus earlier this semester to celebrate the Alumni Association’s 100th anniversary. Many of the statues were initially vandalized just days after being set up, with the antennae and accessories being broken off the sculptures.

Information about this incident, such as the identities of the four students, was limited since the case has now been transferred over to the Office of Student Integrity, and they are currently in the process of investigating the incident.

“These students, like any other students, have to go through the Code of Conduct process,” said Ericka McGarity, assistant dean of Students and Director of Student Integrity.

The investigation process for a violation of Tech’s Code of Conduct begins with an initial investigation, including interviews with the accused students.

The Student Conduct Administrator will then determine if the incident is to be considered a Low Level or High Level case.

In Low Level cases, the Student Conduct Administrator will determine whether or not to make sanctions against the guilty party.

In the case of a High Level incident, the accused has the option to have their case heard by the Student Conduct Panel, which is composed of his or her peers. If this is the case, the Student Government Association handles this process through their judicial branch.

Disciplinary sanctions include a warning.

WHAT A LOAD OF HOGWASH Georgia Tech. At UGA, the students are ARRESTED for being DRUNK as a minor. At Tech, you send these same students to the Internet to complain about an UGA student being arrested for under-age drinking.

Congratulations to our GT team!!! Words cannot describe how happy we are that they won the ACC championship & they do not have to share it!! Coach Johnson should get coach of the year. We have a great team, great school & great fan support. I do not like how our Atlanta based paper, the ajc covers the story though. You would think that they would be a little more supportive of an Atlanta team, but they just cannot bring themselves to do it; I guess that is one reason people do not buy the paper anymore. As for this dog fan…honey, you have a problem & you need to go to the Dr. Name one tech player who has been arrested for anything…how many of your players were arrested just this year alone? How many of your players actually graduate & become someone? Please, go find something to so constructive once in your life. In terms of importance around the country in college football, Georgia Tech has grown into Capt. John Miller—resourceful, courageous and central to the plot.

Georgia, meanwhile, is Cpl. Upham—cowardly, self serving, and in the end, useless.

Congratulations, Tech. It was a wild game.

I don’t understand the thing about this being the first major bowl in over 40 years. What bowl did Tech play in for the 1990 NC?

What was the attendance at the ACC championship game? Did they pack the house?
