FOCUS DUKE!

Listen up Jacket fans…

Right now it doesn’t matter that Tech has a comparable schedule strength to the Gator or Bama.

It doesn’t matter that Tech will finish the season against tougher competition.

It doesn’t matter that TCU and Boise State are ranked ahead of us.

It doesn’t matter that Nesbitt and Dwyer are putting up comparable or better numbers than Tebow or Ingram.

It doesn’t matter that we don’t get the benefit of the doubt that SEC programs get.

It doesn’t matter that we’re off to the best start in nearly a decade and a Top 10 ranking.

All that matters is that we’re about to play Duke on the road…for a definitive lock on the ACC Coastal and a berth in the championship game in Tampa on December 5.

Yes…Duke…

5-4 Duke…Duke with a winning record and victories against NC State, Maryland, and Virginia.

Duke who is averaging 370 yards of offense per game…301 of it in the air…

Duke who is scoring almost 27 points a game behind Thaddeus Lewis who has 2400+ yards of passing and 15 TDs on the season against only 5 INTs.

Duke who has the #11 ranked passing game in the nation against GT’s #68 ranked passing defense!

I was there in 2003 when Chris Douglas ran for 200+ yards and we lost 41-17.

If Thaddeus Lewis goes nuts on us Saturday and our defense doesn’t play four quarters of fundamental football we’ll find ourselves in a dogfight on the road.

The ACC Coastal Division championship is the biggest thing on our plate right now…ignore everything else!

Lets get into the Bye Week at 10-1 before we think about bigger and better things or perceived slights or insults from the pollsters.

Go Jackets!

FOCUS DUKE!

Duke and a Ticket to TAMPA are all that matter. After 3 PM and a Win we can watch other games and think about can happen next.

This Saturday at 4 pm, I’ll be checking ticket prices for the ACCCG if all goes according to plan.

Definitely agree with this. All of the blogosphere and sports media seems to be talking about the ACCCG and what bowl we might go to, but I keep on thinking to myself, “gotta beat DUKE first!” I think Thad might hang 300 yards on us, but I am fairly confident we’ll hang at least 400 yards on them. I predict a shoot-out, unless Womack pulls some sort of miracle.

Alas, I too was at that game in ‘03. I don’t know what was sadder, losing to them, or the 20 minutes it likely took their students to take down the goal posts.

you can also go to the theACC.com website and it gives you a layout of Raymond James Stadium and you can see which side is the Coastal division side which will help you when ordering tickets

CPJ should have the team focused on just that…execute game plan + win @ Duke. What a great stretch of winning football. Team has earned a bye week to heal and prepare for the leg humpers. Hope UGA wins next 2 weeks to make a W over them more meaningful. TCU + Cincy both have tough games…keep winning and good things on the horizon. See ev eryone in Tampa!

Tech cannot afford to take any team lightly that has a good throwing quarterback, e.g. Miami and Wake Forest. Our inability to consistantly put pressure on the quarterback, gives them time to exploit our porous secondary. With out kickoff team allowing teams to start at the 40, I see Duke scoring at least 28 tomorrow.

Our best defense will Nesbitt, Dwyer and crew. I hope we average 4.5 yards a play and win the time of possession batlle 40 to 20 minutes.

The Jackets need to do a lot of blitzing against Duke; a team that can’t run but can sure hurt you with the pass. I say BLITZ!

Let me tell you what does matter in this game.

Thanks to God and Greyhound, chan gomer gailey, the worst coach in the history of the world and who got STOMPED at dook in 2003, is GONE FOREVER. Hallllleeeeeedamloooyah!!!

Any Tech fan that ever supported or defended gomer or helped him destroy our program for 6 long sorry years…you suck as bad as gomer and should be ashamed.

Paul Johnson will have the team ready and I expect Tech to stomp a mudhole in dook.

The season rides on this game at Duke on Saturday. There is no road to Tampa if we don’t defeat the Blue Devils. Let’s get some fans up to Duke to support the Yellow Jackets on Saturday as they clinch the Coastal Division Title.

Well, well my Tech friends, this could be a problem. Then again at least it wasn’t the cover of this week’s SI, so maybe it won’t matter…on the other hand…

Tech needs all the practice against passing teams they can get. They sure don’t get it during the week.

People are still stuck in the Chan mindset of the last 7 years.

Paul Johnson won;t lose to Duke. Not this year and probably not ever.

Dook is a ‘good’ team and is ‘doing what they do’, in Auburnspeak. But there’s no reason we shouldn’t handle them somewhat easily tomorrow. This is a different team/feeling than in ‘03 and Goferit is DEFINITELY not Chan. It will be odd in a way to say “10-1 Georgia Tech”, but hey, I/we can get used to it :) . A couple of Virginia-style clock-eatin’ drives should punch our tickets to Tampa, regardless of how well Thad Lewis throws the ball around.

I live in Northern Virginia. A colleague and I drove four hours down to Durhum for the Tech-Duke game in 2003. It was a shame we showed up, but the Tech team didn’t. But we can’t just show up tomorrow. We need to show out on these guys tees. As W.C. Fields said, “Never give a sucker an even break.

The Bottom Line: Impose our will!

Go Jackets!!!

I was at Duke in 2007, cold and tickets sold for $25 although you could buy one for $10. Now times have changed a bit and tickets are $40. But it is going to be 72 degress, so take the better weather with a ticket price increase anyday.

If Duke averages 370 yards, they’ll probably get at least 500 on us. Hope we can outscore them. Imagine this team if we had a defense with a pulse.

First of all, GO DUKE!!! Whenever “georgia tech” shows up in any poll, especially football, it looks like a type. It’s going to hurt so good when tech loses!!! I heard that most of tech’s fans, a.k.a. “America’s Most Obnoxious Fans” are not making the trip to Duke. Thank goodness, because they are such an embarrassment to the State of Georgia to be seen on television.

Quick breakdown on Duke:

Duke has run more plays than their opponents, except for 2: Army, and NC (last week). Their time of possession against NC St. was 40 – 20 (rounded off). In that game they completed 40 of 50 pass attempts, with 9.2 yards per pass.

They spread the ball around, 4 guys with 29 or more receptions (10.6 to 15.6 yards per). 4 other guys have caught at least 10. Top 5 receivers are WRs.

Blitzing in a short passing game like this…will that work, or having more people in coverage? Duke is not a running threat; 2.2 yards per, 614 net yards, 257 yds lost, 175 of them by Thad Lewis (158 on 23 sacks ).

Kicker is 11/12, 4/4 from 40-49, long of 47 yards.
Snyderwine had 5 FGs in 28-17 win over UVA on 10/31.

OL depth is an issue. 3rd down conversions are 48.4% and 51.4% in 1st and 3rd Q; 27.3% and 26.8% in 2nd and 4th Q.

Defensive depth: 3rd down conv. allowed by Q – 40.0%-39.4%-35.5%-48.5%
