Paul Johnson Plays to Win!

Oh my…oh my…what a gutsy call.

You hear people talk about “coaching not to lose” all the time.

Tonight you saw Paul Johnson “coach to win”.

There was no chance the Jackets were going to kick a fieldgoal and give Riley Skinner another chance to put the ball in the endzone.

The defense had played great all night and the offense had overcome errors and penalties to put itself in a position to win the game.

I don’t think Johnson would have kicked a field goal even if he’d had to go for it in fourth down again, inside the five.  By that time, it was obvious that the Jackets were going to win or lose the game with the ball in their hands…controlling their own destiny.

This was one of those games that teams have to win in order to have a “special season”.

Gutsy, gutsy win…now I’m off to pull for the Seminoles to hold on and beat the Tigers.

I look forward to hearing comments from other Tech fans who were at the game tonight…what did you think about that call to go for it.

We’ve already beaten Clemson, Mr Teague. As far as being judged by fans who dislike our team, we could care less. We’re 9-1 and #7 in the nation.
GT’s record would be 9-1 or 10-0 playing in the SEC. We had one non-SEC cupcake this season, Jacksonville State. Florida has Charleston Southern, Troy, Florida International. Alabama has Florida International, North Texas, and Chattanooga. LSU has Louisiana-Lafayette, Tulane, and Louisiana Tech. These are the three ranked SEC teams.

The only lost came as Tech played their 3rd game in 12 days compared to Miami’s 2nd game in nine days. Do the math. All I ve heard over the last 10 years is any team in the SEC, and that even the bottom teams are so great. Well we don’t seem to get any credit for beating all those SEC teams no matter what there won lost record is. Lets face it except for the top 4 teams, the SEC sucks just like the bottom teams in any league. You SEC people need to get a life your leagues is just not that great. I thought Bobby Ross was great, but Paul Johnson is the best of the best. Ga fans get over it the best thing you have going for you is Mark Ricth. I am so glad my daughter choose to go to GCSU than UGA.

E+Mcx4…. I thought it was a loss, not a lost to Miami? Look at the last few National Champions, where does the ACC come into play? Not anywhere! Both FL and LSU had to win hard fought games against the bottom teams in our league, the SEC, on their way to WINNING the National Championships. I pull for Tech, unless they are playing UGA, Josh is from my hometown, but give Tech some respect and dont post things like you just did. I’m glad your daughter went to GCSU, my wife graeduted from there.

The Dawgs are having a down year,we all agree, but why do you nerds think you deserve to be on the same level as the Dawgs. How long since you finished in the top ten and how many times in the last 8 years have you beaten the Dawgs? That would be one…Go Dukies

GT9 with your defense you’d be no better than 3rd in either division of the SEC at best. Keep up the stupidity moron.

Hopefully other Tech fans now understand why other Tech fans like myself were pushing so hard to get rid of Chan Gailey. He is an example of playing to not lose, while Paul Johnson is an example of playing to win. Look at the difference two seasons makes…and that’s with his screwy offense that will never work in a major conference! It won’t always work to our favor, but you have gotta love the mindset of CPJ!

Mr. Teague, Alabama held Virginia Tech to 24 points. We held Virginia Tech to 23. Is that stupid enough for you?

Once again HD just can’t tolerate a successful Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket victory. They are playing winning football at this point of the season, and doing it with several back-up players. Give them and Coach Paul Johnson lots of credit.

Go to for mor Georgia Tech Football articles and a review of the OT win against Wake Forest on Monday.

SEC football... Let's talk more about it...

I love SEC fans who root for run of the mill teams but always bring up SEC football and Florida and Alabama. Listen. Bottom line, there is Florida and Alabama and the rest of the SEC. That’s it.. The rest are average. And to say anything else would be foolish. Just accept that. And that Tech is whooping ACC and SEC schools this year. I know it’s a tough year, I’ve been there, but that’s just the way it goes. Also, you all would be foolish to get rid of Richt. That’s probably as foolish as Auburn was to get rid of Tuberville.

Wreck Nation,
Two things:

1) Settle down. We’ve got to get through the rest of our
regular season before we start talking about championships.
In an interview, Nick Saban described it best when he discussed
program accomplishments.

People love to sit around and talk about where they think
they should be rather than focusing on the steps it
takes to get them there.

Besides, Coach Johnson would whip our asses if he caught us
slobbering over things that have not yet happened.

2) I get it now… RogerDawg and BuLLdawg are really fellow
Tech fans who spew out mindless crap just for laughs.
I know most ’sidewalk’ dawg fans aren’t the sharpest tools in the
shed but nobody is really that stupid……(crickets)……
Ok, on a brighter note, this is a great day for science. Find
out where they live so they can be studied. We’ve found some
missing links in the chain of evolution.

Paul Johnson has the stones. He owned that decision. He put his players in position to win the games…He made the right call.

Lots of work to do on defense before Duke and Georgia. The D was great against the run. What in the world are we doing against the pass? Gotta wrap up and make the tackle!

Go Jackets!!!

I was there, and I must admit, I am a chicken. I could not even look, but I was glad to see our coach making that decision. I could handle losing like that a lot better than losing because of being too conservative!!

I love it when those SEC fans talk about how GT should play better OOC teams. Let’s look at who the SEC played in OOC games this weekend: Tennessee Tech, Eastern Kentucky, Memphis and Northern Arizona. Wow – what a powerful OOC schedule!!!

I am a TECH fan to heart and have been that way for 25 years. Yes the defense is struggling and CPJ is a great coach, but for us to compete and show the BCS and future recruits that TECH is the way to go, we have to stop thinking negative or making ourself secondary to the puppies of the world. One thing CPJ has shown all TECH fans this past 2 seasons is we deserve to win any game we play because of how we handle situations during a game, I believe CPJ is changing college football back to how it is suppose to be played and it doesn’t matter who we play because the system is built for the long run not just for a great season, so TECH fans let our conversations show that we are use to SUCCESS, then the BCS, UF’s, BAMA’s and RECRUITS of the world will see why everything about college football came from TECH -Heisman to Dodd. So make your Tampa reservations and book your Orange Bowl tickets too. Confidently said!

I was at the game and I have to say, that was one of the most stressful games I’ve ever been to. I shifted between wanting to pull my hair of my head and making promises to God, the Devil, anybody who would listen. But since CPJ has you-know-what’s the size of churchbells, it looks like God and I have a deal and I’ll be going to church more often.

Dude! Was that English?

I think it was a feeble attempt to say that GT doesn’t recognize the past. Yeah, we refuse to recognize 4 Nat’l Championships. And another tidbit … during its tenure in the SEC, GT won 5 conf championships … that’s more conf championships than half the teams that are still in the SEC … and GT left the conference in 1966!!

Thanks to God and Greyhound (and DRAD) chan gomer gaiiley is gone forever. That is what is making all this possible.

Any Tech fan that EVER supported or defended gomer in any way…or helped gomer to be allowed to destroy our program for 6 long sorry years…you suck as bad as gomer did and should be ashamed of yourselves.

We could have had Paul Johnson in 2002…think about it.

Announcers during the broadcast of the game said that Josh Nesbitt came running to the sidelines yelling “I got this I got this, let me go for it” Nesbitt knew they could make it and he was right.

As for Chan Gailey, he didn’t do well but how could he with Reggie Ball as QB? (Don’t get me wrong, HUGE Paul Johnson fan!!!)

Tech may beat Duke this week, but they lose to UGA, then Clemson handles them on a neutral field. Blowing the last two games of he year garners national attention, but keep playing to win.

I don’t usually hang around here, primarily since I know I can get all crap out of techies I need by staying on the Bulldog blog or by squeezing their heads. But, I needed to respond to the ‘plays to win’ headline because 1) who the hell doesn’t? and 2) because it wasn’t all that long ago Tech’s AD had decided that ’settling for less than winning’ was the only way they were going to be able to maintain their high academic standards. What happened? Have they fallen prey to the old saying – If at first you don’t succeed, lower your standards’, or are they using the ‘cover story’ that this option offense means you can win with less than 4 and 5 star recruits. Regardless, it’ll be interesting to see how you guys react when your ‘Year Of Living Arrogantly’, comes to a close.

Mr.dirtypup that ad that your’re talking about no longer works for Georgia Tech. Furthermore I would worry about Auburn than what a bunch of “Nerds” are saying on the blog. Nevertheless, thanks for showing you car so much. Oy!

hey GO DAWG HEAD we beat Clemson the last 4 times, 2 on their field in which one was CPJ’s first year with 16 freshman and soph starters so maybe you should have looked that up before talking about Clemson needing a neutral field to pull it off
