There’s No Crying in Football!

Sorry…someone has to say it…

Maybe Frank Beamer and his cHokies should have been thinking about their game against North Carolina rather than whining and crying about getting blocked a few times by the Jackets.  Its funny how they didn’t complain last year when they won the game.

I already suspected that Beamer’s boys were having a tough time working through their manhood issues based on what had been in the press the past week.  But then the cHokies allowed a woeful Tar Heels team to come into their house, supposedly tough Lane Stadium, and score twice in the last three minutes of the game to tie and then win the game.  Less than two weeks ago VT was being mentioned in national title conversations…and now they aren’t.

I wonder what the complaints will be this time?

Travel Plans for Tampa?

How many of you have made travel plans to be in Tampa on December 5th?

With the aforementioned loss by Virginia Tech, the ACC Coastal Division title is squarely in the Jacket’s sights.

Miami and VT now both have two conference losses against Tech’s single loss.  The only two teams that look to offer a potential challenge are Duke and Virginia.  The Jackets hold a head to head tiebreaker over UVA and will have a chance to deliver a similar beating to Duke later in the season.

But before that, UVA and Duke will face off this weekend.  That will guarantee another ACC loss for one of them.

Duke will have to play UNC, Miami, and Wake Forest along with the Jackets to close out their season.  UVA will have to face Miami, Boston College, Clemson, and Virginia Tech to end their season…a tough row to hoe following Duke this weekend.

With the Jackets facing only Wake and Duke in conference down the back stretch, things certainly look good.

Sick of ESPN?  I am!

I think if I hear “SEC Speed” one more time on an ESPN broadcast I’m going to vomit.  It seems like ESPN goes out of its way to mention the SEC in every single broadcast.  It doesn’t matter what teams are playing.  They just have to compare everything to the SEC.

The truth of the matter is that the SEC is extremely top heavy with Florida and Alabama sitting high in the polls.  Beyond those two teams you’ve got Ole Miss and South Carolina loitering around #21 and #22.

I almost, ALMOST, hope that UGA beats the Gators this weekend.  It would be worth it to see ESPN’s pet team fall down the polls a bit.  And it would help GT’s strength of schedule at the end of the season when the Jackets knock off the Mutts to go 3-0 in the SEC.  (Yes, we’ll beat Vandy this weekend…Paul Johnson has demonstrated that his 2009 team can handle success without stumbling…)

Go Jackets!

“I think if I hear “SEC Speed” one more time on an ESPN broadcast I’m going to vomit.” You must have been violently ill after your bowl “game” last year. I guess the BCS couldn’t convince Cumberland College to accept a bowl bid to play you.

“Paul Johnson has demonstrated that his 2009 team can handle success without stumbling…)” Like you did against Miami right?

Jerry, at this point in the season who in the SEC other than Florida and Bama is gonna make a BCS bowl? IT WILL NOT BE LSU! And it certainly wont be your bullpups. Heck the dogs will be lucky to get a bowl bid period. As for the ACC, the only 2 chances would be the jackets and the canes, but with 2 losses I dont like the canes chances, so the only ACC BCS team will likely be the league champion…but whats new? Thats how it always is. Go Jackets

Again with the ignorance Jerry. Please look up the bowl schedule before asking a stupid question. Off the top of my head, the Chick-fil-a bowl is new years eve, the gator bowl is new years, and there is some small-time bowl that we may not even field a team for right in the middel of the BSC run. That one has me kinda of confused. Why is there a bowl with a MAC team on Jan 3rd? (or 4th)

Folks, the ESPN network has to talk up the SEC. They are now business partners and the broadcasters have to talk up their partners. Just like any business deal you have to build up your product to put money in your pocket and theirs. This might not be fair to the other conferences, but it is going to be that way for a long time. The coverage on ESPN is going to be one-sided for as long as the contract with the SEC runs.

GT needs to worry about Vandy, period. They cannot control what happens with the rest of the ACC, SEC, etc. They cannot control what happens on ESPN. The only thing in their immediate control is their next game. Focus on one game at a time, the rest is out of our control.

None of the remaining games are certain wins. GT could lose each one of them, but they shouldn’t. UGA is by no means a slam dunk. What happened the last time we were favored against UGA, which we should be should the next three weeks fall where they should?

Again, worry about Vandy and go D….a…..w…gs. That was just too hard to type.

2. Outside of Ga Tech, Miami, and Va Tech, the ACC is working with nothing.

5. I give a rats a$$ what a conference does, all I care about is that Ga Tech wins.

I know it pains a lot of you haters out there to know that Ga Tech is successfull this year. For all Tech fans that respond to idiots on these blogs, you are just fueling their desire to be negative. Chris, I’m one of the biggest Tech homers there is, but let’s be honest – the ACC cannot compare to the SEC…yet. I do think that the ACC is as competitive (if not slightly more so) as the SEC but in overall average quality of teams, the SEC is better. When Dook can beat Richmond and Maryland can beat James Madison, then we can start saying we’re as good. CPJ and Tech are leading the way out/back/whatever you wanna call it for the rest of the conference, though.

Jerry- The winner of the ACC championship game is automatically in the Orange Bowl which last time I checked is a BCS bowl. I agree that the SEC has the best talent in the country and Fla and Ala are two of the best teams in the nation but the world does not start and end with the SEC. Even those two have looked mediocre lately. For some reason though, no other conference gets the pub the SEC does. Right or wrong, who knows, but you have to admit that the rest of the SEC is about weak as any other conference. I can only imagine the orgasm ESPN will have if those two make it to the SEC title game. Oh Timmy, don’t stop…

Yes the ACC is down in football, no one ever said the ACC was a football powerhouse, however, with the exception of Florida and Alabama the SEC is not a powerhouse this season either. In fact the SEC is almost as mediocre as the ACC. And yes Jerry, the ACC will have a BCS bowl rep, the league champion is automatic (im sure even as delusional as you are you knew that) and I am as die hard Tech fan as there is, and I am very pleased with our progress so far. DO I think we are capable of competing for a NC this year, no, but I do believe we could compete with all but maybe 2 or 3 teams. SO, with that being said I know your mad because the pups are gonna lose to Florida….again to go 4-4 and underwhelm once again. Could it be the ACC’s pathetic record in BCS bowls as opposed to the SEC’s record. How many NCs has the ACC won of late. It’s extremely easy to see why the SEC gets all the pub. With the exception of GT does the ACC actually have a team with fewer than 3 losses this year. Look at the absolutely pathetic Atlantic Division. Maybe if the ACC could win a BCS bowl or 2 they would EARN a little respect. Put Tennessee in the the ACC this year and they’d run the table. Just about any SEC team short of Vandy or MSU could sit atop the ACC this year. Win a BCS bowl every now and then and you won’t be in here whining about the ACC getting no respect.

Thus, VT was not focused on NC and got taken to the wood shed again with not performing at cruch time. I’m really surprised that Frank Beamer with all his yrs. of coaching kept crying and whining about GT game instead of being focused on a NC team that had their backs to the wall.

Sure, Georgia Tech president G.P. “Bud” Peterson seemed happy after several hundred students dumped a piece of goalpost on his lawn Saturday after the Yellow Jackets upset Virginia Tech. But now comes word that Peterson wants to review the “safety procedures” at Bobby Dodd Stadium because several fans were injured during the removal of the post. You’d think a bunch of engineers-in-training could figure out a way to fell a goalpost without casualties, but apparently that isn’t the case.

Maybe being able to walk, talk, and chew gum at the same time should be a prerequisite. Of course that would pretty much assure that the typical Tech “man” would forever be excluded from taking down a goalpost.

hey jerry i seriously doubt you are an engineer. nobody with any brains would make some of the statements you have made! maybe your a domestic engineer …. as in you clean toilets in between sweeping floors and making fries?

one only look at the stats on ATTENDANCE to see why the SEC gets all espn’s love. when i see sports center i see a program that is dominated by news wrt the SEC, Big 10 and Big 12. it is NO coincidence that these same conferences are also 1,2,3 in attendance every year.

heck, scout does the same thing for recruiting rankings. they ‘adjust’ the rankings and stars to draw subcriptions from the masses in the big 3. how else do you account for the fact that ugag is a failure each and every year inspite of its yearly top 5 recruiting ranking?

as far as this wheel of destiny hogwash, one only look as some of the most recent SEC games to realize that BUT for the referees, alabama AND fla could/should have lost a game each to bottom feeders in the sec.

maybe they need to have a wheel of destiny for the SEC in order to see which ranked sec team is SAVED from a loss by the refs every week.

last time i looked an ACC bottom feeder ncstate was driving for the winning td when an SEC official missed a blatant mugging from a usce d player thus preserving the win for the gamecrocks over a less than stellar ncstate team. was the first game of the year. sc didnt even SCORE an offensive td in that game. yet they are one of the top 4 teams in the sec. now that is hillarious.

usm loses to lsu at lsu while at the lsu goal line. gt beat them handily at their place yet espn has the nerve to have this wheel of destiny? give me a break.

if the ugag fla game is close today, look for a non call or a missed call to decide the game FOR fla. afterall it is already ordained by espn that either bama or fla will be in the mnc game again. could it be that the teams with the most fans tend to make it to the top each an every year? nah.

the acc has held its own against the sec as has the big 10 (but for the buckeyes) recently. last year we had a winning record against the sec.

i would bet that we have a winning record against the SEC again this year. look for ….

-clemson to beat usce AGAIN
-gt to beat ugag AGAIN
-and dont count fsu out against fla in a game which could be bobby’s last game. it would be fitting to have bobby’s last game be a win against a top ranked uf team.

if you look at sagarin the SEC is behind the pac 10 and infront of the lowly ACC as far as conferences go. the acc must be doing something right. eh?

The ACC is so putrid this year that they will probably send only 5 teams to a bowl, down from 10 a year ago. This means the ACC will be 2 teams short of filling their bowl tie in slots. PITIFUL!

Since ESPN has crawled into bed with SEC, RE: huge new TV contract, they will prostitue themselves to the league. Every thing you hear on ESPN will be tilted toward the almighty SEC. I too could vomit. If only there was another sports network to compete with the worldwide leader.

mash the bug, are you referring to the dogs that are losing 14-3 against Fla early in the 2nd Quarter? Be a fan and go help the dogs win and leave us along.

I don’t see the “SEC Speed” people are talking about. Maybe it’s because we’re playing the lower tier teams like Miss State, Vandy, and Georgia.

I feel your pain for different reasons with ESPN, but the fact is that SEC schools have won a lot of National Championships in recent years, plus let’s not forget that ESPN has a contract with ESPN for a game(s) each week. They have destroyed amateur sports in this country continually deceiving young men that it is better to play as individuals and be on the highlight show than to help your school win as a team. Really on Baseball had a chance of staying true because it is a collection of individuals and highlights have always been a part of the game. Remember, after Bear left Alabama the SEC went through lean years and many legal problems and probations, so maybe things will begin to change after this year. I really don’t think the SEC #1 will be #1 after the BCS season. That will be good for us all.

You haven’t seen any cryin’ yet till after you beat the curdawgs again this year and Cryin’Joe Cox starts his emotional cryin’ display like he’s done after every loss this year.

It was unfair for us to lose to Georgia Tech. Very unfair. It didn’t matter that the Yellow Jackets’ blocks were legal. The question is, should they have been legal? I’m not whining. I’m not. I just don’t want to see fine young men get hurt. This is not sour grapes. It’s not.

We lost to North Carolina probably because our fine young men at Virginia Tech were so hurt by the unfair loss to Georgia Tech that they couldn’t concentrate properly on the game at hand. We should not have lost either game. By all that’s right you have to say we actually won both of those games. We did. We really did. Can’t you see that?

Hey “mash the bug” first you have to have a team that knows what a bug looks like and then they have to be taught how to stomp and where to stomp. That takes some coaching -all of which your pathetic dawgs are lacking. You will be crying when that bug makes your silly little team look like a bunch of high school freshman. Keep trying to train that dawg to stomp -it will be fun to watch, He will probably end up chasing his tail.

I’m not an “SEC hater” but have always wondered why the powerful SEC teams (UF, Ala. and LSU)play such “creampuff” out-of-conference schedules. I’m not ragging on UGA here. The Dawgs play a tougher OOC schedule than the above three.

Swami, you really want to compare Tech’s academics to ugag? That’s like comparing a six figure job to one with which you shovel dog turds which I bet ugay will hire you for if you want. Im sure you can probably pull in an easy 20 or 30k with your turf grass management degree, although there is a possibility that even ugay wouldn’t accept you.
