Huge Win! Statement Game!

Wooooo…don’t know about the rest of you Tech fans but I’m pretty fired up right now.  The home crowd was awesome.  It was easily the loudest I’ve heard Bobby Dodd Stadium in years and the defense fed off the energy all night.

What a game…what a win…what a statement…Paul Johnson has the Jackets back in the national picture and on the national stage.

And it couldn’t have happened against a nicer bunch of miscreants and misfits than the Virginia Tech Hokies.  I’ve been pretty up front about my feelings about VT in previous blogs.  The fact that this win came against the cHokies just made it that much sweeter.

We’ve been getting disrespected by the local media (including all the local outlets) and the national media for quite awhile now.  This is a win that cannot be ignored.  There was no fluke play.  There were no questionable penalties or calls.  There was simply focused, solid, and determined coaching and execution from Georgia Tech that resulted one of the biggest wins in the past decade.

When the clock ticked down to zero, my buddies and I gleefully ventured onto the field for the first time since the big Auburn win back in 2003.

What a day…what a game…what a win…Woooooo!

I’m off to catch the highlight shows in ESPN.  I’m curious to see what the talking heads will say, since they all picked VT to beat us tonight.

So…fellow fans…how was your Homecoming?  Like my buddy Vu said tonight, “We fried up four turkeys at the tailgate and about 85 on the field!”

How was your tailgate, your game experience, and did you rush the field?

Go Jackets!

Beat the Hoos!

The whole game day experience was great even with the weather being fowl. Served up some smoked ribs and poultty, then went to see the Jackets handle matters. The offense stunk it up the first half, but the defense answered the call. We got the TD at the end of the half, mostly on a junk pass play, and I felt OK.

In the second half, our offensive line just smacked the VT line in the mouth. On the first drive we pretty much had the backs falling down behind the gains of the O-line. I’m very glad for the win, but save a few timely fumbles, we had a chance to really make a statement here. I think Tech deserves to be a Top 10 at this point regardless, which probably won’t happen, but we had a real chance to make a real statement. Probably the biggest win I’ve seen on the Flats, and I’ve seen some good ones, and now the challenge it to not look past UVA.

BIG HUGE statement win, indeed!!! All you Tech fans that were afraid to talk about 11-1 (and I admit, I still am slightly)…there’s room on the bandwagon now :) . Tech is now nationally big-time! I love how Heather Dinich on ESPN is lamenting how Va. Tech losing ends the ACC’s chance for a national title contender…um Heather, did you not notice that the Yellow Jackets have taken over the driver’s seat on that bus now?! :)

Next up: win in Charlottesville, something we haven’t done since…1990. Coincidentally, that win is memorialized in Sting Tees’ “Toe Meets Leather”! Pick yours up this week before we go back up there and win again next Saturday at http://www.stinGTees.com!

Great Game. Stick a fork in the turkeys… they are done. I rushed the field watched the goal post come down.. and best of all my brother-in-law who works security handed me my first Professional Engineering Stamp in the North End Zone. I am probably the only Tech grad to get his stamp during a game and on the field. I wanted to stamp the goal post, but I didn’t have an ink pad.

Let’s not talk about national titles just yet. I have a feeling the BCS would take a 1 loss Texas,USC,Florida or Bama over any 1 loss ACC team.

Except for some pitches that Stevie Wonder wouldn’t have made, I think it was a well played game. Game ball goes to the defense.

I don’t care what anyone says about Scott Blair, he has saved numerous kickoffs from becoming TD’s in his Tech career. The boy has no fear when it comes to tackling.

I didn’t storm the field. It was quite the scene though. It was amazing that 10 minutes after the game was over that no one had left the stadium.

BDS was really rocking tonight. I was so proud of everyone showing up and being Loud and Proud. Our defense really fed off of that. The whole team was rocking on the sideline. 300+ on the Hokies on the ground. What a Job by our team!

AWESOME. I decided to drive 4 hours this morning to see history, and the players/coaches did not disappoint. What a great scene at BDS!!

Speaking of the ESPN folks, the football final guys did not even find one player on GT to give a helmet sticker. That is SAD. I guess they did not like the fact that neither of them picked GT to win. LOL Well, it is 2 a.m. here in AL, so I’ll be signing off now.

Notre Dame played its 1 good opponent all season long. And, Lost to knock Notre Dame out of the Top 25 of every poll. Notre Dame had managed, you recall, to Lose to 1 of its NON-RANKED opponents already. This is the only “opponent” on Notre Dame’s “Schedule” who is a ranked team, all season long.

Tennessee had a bye week. The vols will debut in the BCS Poll today at Number 43. The vols play Alabama next week, the only RANKED team on the vols’ “schedule” all season long except for Florida. The vols have already managed to lose 3. This week will be 4.

Florida beat LSU last week, the ONLY RANKED TEAM on Florida’s schedule, all season long. Florida beat South Carolina on a last second field goal, after the refs handed the crocodiles the game on the previous drive, with phantom call after phantom call to tie the game up. Then South Carolina missed an easy field goal that would have given Steve Spurrier the lead back.

Auburn, who plays its ONLY RANKED TEAM all season long next week at LSU besides the Alabama game to end the season, has seen fit to drop 2 of its games anyway. Auburn will debut in the BCS Rankings today at about the same ranking as the vols and Georgia do – all 3 teams NOT in The SEC top half but in the bottom half of The SEC.

The SEC will be the highest average BCS Ranking of every conference.

Oklahoma will drop out of the Top 25. Texas will be Number 3 behind both Florida as 1 and Alabama as 2.

LSU will debut at Number 7 in the BCS Rankings today, and ONLY plays 2 RANKED TEAMS all season long. The first was a Loss to Florida. The 2nd is Alabama and will also be a Loss leaving LSU in the Top 10 at the end of the season.

Ole Miss will debut in the BCS Rankings today almost in the Top 25, as it has on its resume the inexplicable Loss to UNRANKED South Carolina, which mars its season, just as the Loss to the UNRANKED vols mars Georgia’s season. Otherwise, Ole Miss plays 2 ranked teams in Losses to Alabama already and surely to LSU in the game before the Egg Bowl. It would be expected that Ole Miss will beat the lowly vols, right ?

Arkansas’ Bobby Petrino Lost to 1 Florida yesterday, 2 Alabama earlier and plays 7 LSU to end the season; but, Bobby Petrino Lost to UNRANKED Georgia leaving Bobby Petrino in the 2nd half of The SEC with the lowly vols and UNRANKED Georgia, all ranked about Number 43 in the BCS with the Average SEC team ranked Number 38.

Kentucky managed to beat Auburn this week, after having Lost 3 straight to 1 Florida, 2 Alabama and last week by 2 points to UNRANKED Steve Spurrier’s South Carolina hard luck crowd. There are no other RANKED TEAMS on Kentucky’s schedule besides 1 Florida and 2 Alabama, and the games at Georgia and then home to welcome the vols will determine Kentucky’s season.

Vanderbilt is not a good football team at all with Losses to Army and Mississippi State. So, you would expect Georgia Tech who plays only 1 game against anyone good, Georgia to end its season, to play Intramural Vandy in the game after next right ? Exactly. Vandy will end up 2-10 with its only win over a 1-A BCS team its win over 0-7 Rice. The only other win is over non-qualifying Western Carolina. Sad football team Vandy.

Mississippi State will end up 5-9, having a season no different from Vandy. So, you would expect that they too, played Georgia Tech, right ? Exactly.

Georgia Tech, who played 1 RANKED TEAM all season long and LOST, before last night, faces NO OTHER RANKED TEAM all season long. The only problem with Tech’s schedule, is that it faces Georgia to end the season, after having popped off its collective mouth (both of them) in here. The ACC is a really lousy conference.

Ohio State and Oklahoma both LOST AGAIN, which should knock both of the Top 25, but it will be close to about Number 25 for both, maybe.

The Big 10 really sucks, while they have Iowa (joke) and Pennsylvania State (joke) to act like those 2 at least are any good at all, while playing NO ONE.

Not that Michigan plays any one any good all season long.

TCU and BYU face off next week, and neither plays a single ranked team all season long, besides this 1 game. Oklahoma will drop from the top 25, in my opinion. Therefore the Mountain West does NOT look any good at all, all ranked about Number 100 the entire conference, otherwise – just like the Big 10 and ACC.

Southern California, who prefers to be called USC like South Carolina is, plays its 1 RANKED TEAM, Oregon coming up the week after next. Ohio State’s loss today to previously zero Purdue ruins any chest thumping by Southern California for having beat Ohio State. Ohio State, bwaaaah.

Purdue had lost its previous 5 games in a row, including to Northern Illinois, but beat Ohio State by more than a Touchdown this week to absolutely put a fork in Ohio State yet again this season. Ohio State has issues.

Kansas Lost its game against hapless Colorado, and still faces a season of 5 Losses for Kansas. Please explain how the block of voters who vote as a block had Kansas a ranked team, please ? The “top-rated” team on Kansas’ schedule so far this season is debuting today in the BCS Rankings at Number 71, Duke.

Missouri Lost to Oklahoma State. This knocks both Missouri and Kansas from the Top 25. obviously.

Nebraska Lost too, so all 3 of those teams should be dropped from the Top 25.

Ole Miss could possibly almost move back into the Top 25.

Tennessee will not.

Georgia has Losses to Top 15 Oklahoma State, Top 7 LSU whom we should have beat, and to lowly Number 43 Tennessee vols to ruin our season last week. We face Number 1 Florida, a beatable team will not beat, next week. Then, we finish our season totally PO d against Georgia Tech, in here shooting its mouth off – both of you Tech fans.

The Tech ticket office was open right up to kick-off tonight in supposedly the only game Tech has ever played. The game was NOT a sell-out. Even with 4 cokes, 2 hotdogs, a bag of peanuts and a free parking pass to every ticket purchaser against supposedly a great football team, blown out by Alabama, and who hasn’t and won’t play a good team besides Alabama all season long. The ACC is a sorry football conference of nobody football teams.

SoS for the full season shows UGA’s Strength of Schedule is Number 5 in the country and Georgia Tech’s NOT in the Top 50.

Let’s see, while UGA faces Number 1 Florida next game, who does Georgia Tech face the rest of the year besides us ? 66 Virginia, 108 Vandy, 50 Weak Forest, 71 Duke. Nice schedule there Tech. Wusses. Play a real schedule. Play in a real conference.

Georgia could end up playing 4 top 10 teams in the Final Polls this year. Georgia Tech is the 1 game I would not give 2 hoots for Tech’s chances in, not after last year and what has been on this rag since. Try comparing records. Oh Tech will play against an ACC Coastal team in a game which no one will care about and no one will go to the game because Tech fans don’t go to your own home games against teams supposedly in the Top 4 in the nation.

Georgia Tech plays whom for the ACC Chumpionship ?

BCS Number 50 Weak Forest ?

BCS Number 51 Boston College ?

BCS Number 58 Climpsum Farmers ?

BCS Number 60 Florida State Creminoles ?

BCS Number 74 North Carolina State ?

BCS Number 85 Ralph Friedgen Maryland ?

No one gives a rats’ behind who Georgia Tech plays in the ACC Chumpionship Game. Let’s talk it up AJ-C. Who will Georgia Tech play ? God. Who cares.

Tech fans (both of you) STAY OUT of a real football conference like The SEC.

Tech voted itself OUT of The SEC because you did NOT want to be involved in The SEC REVENUE SHARING.

By the way, that is now $150 MILLION DOLLARS per SEC School, which Tech obviously is NOT PART OF.

Because YOU VOTED OUT of The SEC, because YOU did NOT want SEC Revenue Sharing.

Figure it out.

Tech is the best football team in the stinking ACC, and will face off against a NOT Top 50 BCS Ranked team in the lousy ACC Chumpionship Game.

If you are the best team this year in the state of Georgia, you will BEAT UGA.

Good luck on that.

Georgia Tech plays but the NOT EVEN Number 50 Strength of Schedule over there in that STINKING CONFERENCE of YOURS.

Georgia Tech plays ONLY TWO (2) Ranked Teams all season long, including the ACC Chumpionship Game, and you won 1 and lost 1.

Who in the Living Hell do you think is a 3rd Ranked Team on Tech’s sorry easy powderpuff creampuff schedule ? Go ahead. Tell me. There is NOT 1.

Thanks for showing us how much TECH’s season is bothering you. It’s not our fault your season is over at the midway point. Just because your coach can’t win with a team full of parade all-Americans, don’t blame us. UGAY has recruited in the top 10 for 10 straight years, so what’s the problem? Who’s the blame? It’s hilarious that you took so much time on your blog. Every TECH fan loves it, so please keep doing it. Also it’s funny how CPJ’s gimmick offense is winning games and embarrassd your D at home last year. LOL! When UGAY comes to BDS this year it’s gonna be even worse. But seriously, what’s the problem with your team? Has CMR lost his edge? Does Bobo and Martinez need to go? Or is the recruiting ranking sytem bogus? Please explain.

One at a time & this is Virginia’s time.

To hell with all this “rankings” BS! The important thing is that Paul Johnson has changed the culture of Georgia Tech football the way that Paul Bryant did at Alabama in the early 1960’s. The amazing thing is that he has done it so quickly. Georgia Tech is now a tough, resourceful TEAM. More talented teams want no part of playing Georgia Tech. THAT is something to be proud of!

Let’s not get too carried away and forget about next weekend. All this win does is put us in a position to be in a three way tie at the end of conference play. That means we can’t slip up in ACC play the rest of the way or we’ll look awfully stupid for having torn down our goalposts last night.

Let’s just starting working on Virginia, we haven’t won there since 1990 and they got us pretty good last year at home (despite being one of the worst teams in Division 1). So let’s stop patting our team on the back and encourage them to focus on the Cavs.

Here’s something to think about that is more likely. GT wins out. Miami wins out. Miami win win the right to play for the ACC championship due to head to head. They also will be ranked higher in the national polls if they win out because they will finish the regular season with a higher BCS rating than GT.
The question now lies will GT get an at large bid to play in one of the BCS bowls?

You guys put on a clinic. I hear alot about how Nesbit is not the QB for this offense. All I know is you are going to miss him and his Will, Heart, and Determination once he is gone. Nesbit is what makes this offense go. Nesbit is the Pulse of your team. Also great job by the Tech defense. I will go now and let all the other idiot DAWG fans come on here to try and trash what was the signature win in the early CPJ era. One more thing, After the rushing output that you put on a Bud Foster defense (the DC that alot og DAWG fans want to replace CWM) I don’t feel near as bad about the 400+ you put on my DAWGS last year. Yeah but it could be a three way tie with GT, UM & VT if all win their remaining conference games. But the same thinking applies, highest ranking in the BCS poll. And Miami will probably be rated higher looking at it today. But, Miami has to get by South Florida at Tampa & GT has to get by Georgia in non-conference games. GT has the harder road.

I would guess one of the ACC tie in games.
