Fried Turkey for Homecoming?

Its 10am and my lovely wife and two perfect daughters just headed out to ballet and tap class.  My chores are done and I’ll be hitting the road here shortly myself.  My tailgating buddies are likely already frying up the turkeys and wondering where I am.   Before I head out…a few thoughts…

I have some grave concerns about this game.  This is a chance for the Jackets to make a “we belong” statement.  Are they ready to do that?

On one hand, its Homecoming and we’ve won a vast majority of our  Homecoming games over the past several years.  (Losing to UVA last year broke  a streak I believe.)

On the other hand, we’re facing a Top 5 VT squad that has suddenly found balance in their offense.  That doesn’t bode well for our defensive squad, which has given up yards in bunches while benefiting from an offense that has bailed them out with big plays and clock eating drives.

I’m worried that VT will do what FSU should have done…eat up yards and clock with their running game, effectively keeping Josh Nesbitt and our offense on the bench.  Its going to be crucial for our defense to stop the Hokies on first and second down and force them into third and long situations.  If the defense allows third and short situations all night it will be a long evening on the Flats.

Tonight is a situation where the mythical “12th Man” can have an impact.

Yellow Jacket fans need to be in their seats before kick off and they need to make noise when the GT defense is on the field.

We need a decided home field advantage tonight.  I don’t care of you stand up, sit down, lie down, or jump up and down…MAKE NOISE!

Go Jackets!

Beat the Hokies!

Fried turkeys for real this afternoon! I’ll be at the Nerd Alert Turkey tailgating party right next to the Mason building today chewing on cHokie gobblers :) . BIG game for the Jackets today! The defense HAS to step it up today. Contrary to the popular conventional wisdom, the tickets left over yesterday were unsold tickets VT returned to GT…Tech fans will fill the stadium and rock Bobby Dodd tonight. I’m hoping for as loud a crowd as we had at the Clemons game. VT has regained its balance but, (1) they’ll be facing the biggest, most partisan crowd since their Bama game, and (2) one week is not enough time to prep for the triple option. I also think there’s been so much emphasis on defense in practice this week that Wommack will have our boys good and salty.

Should be a classic…maybe one worthy of the next StinGTees t-shirt. Get the current StinGTees shirt available – “Toe Meets Leather” – at http://www.stinGTees.com today! (BTW: the “Toe Meets Leather/41-38″ game is next week!)

I sure hope that I’m wrong, but all signs point to an old fashioned butt-whipping tonight at the hands of Va Tech. Our defense has forced only ONE PUNT the last two games. Without turnovers by MS State and FSU, Tech loses both games because our defense simply can’t stop anyone.

If Va Tech doesn’t throw interceptions or put the ball on the ground, I just don’t see our defense forcing them to punt more than two or three times all game. Our offense will have a good game, but we won’t be able to march up and down the field like either of the last two games. Bud Foster’s D will be the best we see all year.

If Va Tech is able to hold on to the ball, Tech’s offense will be pressured to score a touchdown every possession. Throw in our lousy coverage teams on punts and kick offs, and I’m struggling to see a Jacket victory.

If I’m wrong and the Tech D steps up and plays well, nobody will be happier.

Come on everyone…ENJOY the moment!!! As our wonderful Coach said this week, “This is an opportunity.” We’re building a BIG winning program here. Win or lose Coach Johnson, his staff, especially Josh Nesbitt, and all the players are working hard and playing hard. It hasn’t been this much fun to be a Jacket in a LONG time. ENJOY the MOMENT!!! Go jackets!!!!!

Thanks for Paul Johnson, the triple option, and Nesbitt the Warrior!

Beating the #4 team at homecoming! It doesn’t get any better…at least until the UGA game.

Be very afraid, dawgs.

Last e-mail was ivigram@bellsouth.net. New e-mail courtesy of my daughter. This week using old e-mail I commented that Josh Nesbitt sshould be a candidate for the Heisman. Enough said after he ran the turkeys (excuse me) Hokies down.

To paraphrase another bogger who quouted the infamous m:

HALA-DAM-LUJAH!!

What a wonderful exciting win over an excellent Hokie team.

For once, we got excellent officiating, and not just because we won.

This may be the biggest win since 41-38 over #1 UVA in 1990.

The studio folks at ESPN just love Virginia Tech, but they don’t the heart of this team, and the skill set of Coach Paul Johnson who can make adjustments like no other coach during a game. Great job Jackets!

Go to http://isportsweb.com for articles on Kam Chancellor, and the Georgia Tech Football team. Go Jackets!

Hokem-pokem must have never learned who he was playing. The Georgia Institute of Technology does not have university in its name but it does have the best coach in the state.
