Its Finally Game Week!

After a long slow summer, its finally the last week before Toe Meets Leather against Jacksonville State this coming Saturday.  I am sure that office productivity across the country will fall steeply over the next five days.  I know I am personally more than a bit distracted and anxious to get that first game under our belts and see how the offense and defense have progressed or changed during practice.

So…beginning this week I will be posting at least two fan blogs per week.  I will be focusing on things from a “fan” perspective.  Doug does a great job with the official GT beat blog and the producers at the AJC.com want the various sports fan blogs to focus on fan topics of interest and discussion.  So I will do my best to inject my personal “fan” perspective and thoughts on the program and the season as it unfolds.  My goal will not be to overlap or rehash or scoop Doug as a news source.  He’s the paid writer with the press credentials…not I.

Before we get started, I’ll just lay out one request or rule…whichever way you want to take it…

Treat your fellow Tech fans and alums with respect and maturity when you encounter them in the AJC.com blogs.  We’re all on the same team and have plenty of rivals and less than friendly adversaries that should be readily available once the season begins.

Over the next couple of days I’ll post my expectations and concerns regarding the offense and defense coming out of Fall practice.  And then before we know it…the season will be upon us!

The two links below should help get us all through the week…

I’ve looked several times in our “Hall of Fame” and I still cannot find that trophy. (and before some dawg comes on here and says something derogatory about said Hall of Fame, i’m going to point out that there were four national championship trophies, not one.)

Did I really see a big color ad in the AJC football section placed by the GT Athletic Department telling fans to beg stores to carry GT stuff? Did I really see that? And on another page was there one still trying to sell tickets? Damn. That’s weak guys. As overblown as your idea of your place in the college football universe is you are still no more than a pimple on that ugly dogs azz over in Athens, and stuff like those ads proves it.

THWG! Let’s get it on!! Can’t wait!! August 1966; GT Frosh Orientation @ Rock Eagle. UGA orientation same time, same building, different entrance. Long lines on sidewalks outside waiting for the doors to open. UGA frosh (with many former HS classmates) holding up banners and signs of 1965 score (16-7 I think) and singing fight song. Had played HS football and been a fan of both teams until then (my best friend was Wally Butts nephew); but never again after that. THWG!!

once again… we definitely need better bloggers than this, when our own wants maturity. well probably like saint simon’s, there really isnt much else to read on ajc.com.
a whole “two times a week”?!?! after a whole summer with 80% fewer postings than uga’s blogs, its hard to give respect.

Most seasons by this time, we have seen the official ‘rollout’ of the home & away uniforms…since I have not seen that…well, maybe I just missed it somewhere…or shoudl we assume the Jackets will be wearing the exact same unis as last year? Anybody have any info? Thanks…oh, by the way, we need to show up and put butts in the seats on Saturdays this season…let’s fill up Bobby Dodd and improve the gameday atmosphere!

C’mon Tech fans … 30,000 for opening day to a season full of high expectations and possible run at a conference championship. We as Tech fans need to let our attendance speak louder than our blogs. If you can’t show up to support this team, this coaching staff, and this great institution then what are you looking for? It’s a great day to be a Yellow Jacket!

Cheese, great song – here’s the whole thing!

Don’t send my son to M.I.T. the dying mother said,
Don’t send him off to Emory – I’d rather see him dead,
But send him please to Georgia Tech ’tis better than Cornell,
And as for U of Georgia I’d first see him in Hell!

On the field between the hedges there arose a might stench,
In the dogs’ machine the Engineers had thrown a monkey wrench,
When the Jackets rose triumphant they all gave the mighty yell,
You Dogs Can Go To Hell!

Mine eyes have seen the glory of the stomping of the dogs,
We will teach those poor dumb farmboys they should stick to sloppin’ hogs,
When the Jackets are triumphant we will give the mighty cheer,
We’ll Do The Same Next Year!

Which is worse: playing and winning in a home stadium that is not sold out (Bobby Dodd) or playing and losing in a home stadium that is (Stafford Memorial, oops, I mean Sanford)?
Guess which most fans would rather have.

ARTC,

Don’t worry we’ll win two more times and then you’ll fire Marky Wrecked just like you did Jim Donnan. The puppies only wish they had the threats at every offensive position like we do…Tech will have 5 proven players…Nesbitt, Dwyer, Jones, Allen, and Thomas who could take the ball to the house on any given play…Ugly only has Green, and I don’t see Cox moving very fast or being as accurate as the abused pitbull now unfortunately throwing to CJ in Detroit.

They’re investigating Georgia players to see how much their paid.

They outpaid F-$-U!

Can’t wait to see the UNC defense this season. Three UNC linebackers run the 40-yard dash in less than 4.5 seconds, topped by sophomore Zach Brown’s 4.2 seconds. Linebacker Bruce Carter blocked four straight punts last season, an unofficial NCAA record. And junior middle linebacker Quin Sturdivant led the nation with 87 solo tackles.

Looking through the foxsports web site and saw an article from Rich Cirminiello A prediction from him said, provided he has enough attempts to qualify, Georgia Tech’s Josh Nesbitt will lead the ACC in passing efficiency. Yup, that’s the same Nesbitt who pilots the Jackets’ triple-option attack. Admittedly, there’s not much competition in a league that failed to produce a quarterback ranking higher than 41st nationally in 2008. Still, Paul Johnson believes there are opportunities to exploit defenses that stack the box, and Nesbitt has made progress as a passer. Don’t be shocked to see stat lines that read 7-of-9 for 147 yards and two long scores to Demaryius Thomas.
I can see that happening. The passing game will be better. Nesbitt will be much improved all around player. I see great things happening this year. GO JACKETS!!!!

Enjoy.

Q: What’s the difference between Georgia Tech’s football team and Rice Crispies?
A: Rice Crispies know what to do in a bowl.

Where was O.J. hiding right before the famous white Bronco Chase?
On the Georgia Tech campus, because that’s the last place you’ll find a football player.

Did you know that Adam was a Georgia Tech Guy?
He had to be because he was eating an apple while sitting next to a naked lady.

Why do Georgia Tech grads keep their diplomas on their dash boards?
So they can park in the handicap spaces.

Do you know why the Georgia Tech football team should change it’s name to “The Opossums”?

Because they play dead at home and get killed on the road.

What do you call a Georgia Tech football player with a championship ring?

A theif.

What Do Georgia Tech and pot have in common?

They both get smoked in bowls.

What’s the hardest thing about being a Georgia Tech fan?

Telling your parents that you’re gay.

How do you make Georgia Tech cookies.

Put them in a big bowl and beat them for three hours.

General Schwarzkopf was walking through the desert during the Gulf War when he found a lamp on the ground. He picked it up, rubbed, and out came a genie.

The genie said to the General, “I will grant you one wish.”

The General replied, “I wish that we will win this war. Here is a map of the desert and all the war parties. Please make us win the war.”

The genie responded, “I’m not that powerful of a genie. I cannot grant you that wish.”

“Well,” the General responds, “then can you have Georgia Tech win a bowl game this year?”

The genie thinks for a moment, then says, “Let me see that map again.”

how did you feel when you got blown out by LSU in the peach bowl?

now i come from a family where my mom is a tech fan but me and my bros are uga fans. and to be honest with you i have tried to be a tech fan.. but it is very hard to be one when they let you down so many times. hard to be a tech fan when they are inconsistant. what was it, 10 years ago you only won 1 game all year?? you thought you had a good team going into the peach bowl and you lay an egg.. honestly guys. you make it hard for some people who want to be tech fans to root for you.

one thing about georgia is we are consistant. we average 10 wins a season under CMR.
