‘lo all…I’m still here and will still be blogging. Some faces have changed at the AJC recently, as everyone is aware. But rest assured that there are no plans to remove the GT fan blog. We’re just going to put things on haitus for a bit during the hot (100+ today?!?!), quiet summer and then ramp back up in the Fall when football starts up again.
That suits me fine, since the beat guy will be handling and commenting on miscellaneous GT information on a weekly basis. He’s alot more plugged into the sports information office than I am and is doing a good job so far.
So…don’t despair if the Ramblin’ On blogs are few and far between over the next few months. August will get here soon enough with practices and Fan Photo Day find their way onto our calendars.
A few things before I hang up the virtual pen this week…
1) Gani Lawal returning to the Jackets squad is huge. His skill and experience combined with Favors and a deep roster of athletic teammates should make the 2009/10 Jackets a shoe-in for the NCAA and a major threat in the ACC. There can be no excuses this year. None. Hewitt needs to show us that he still has some magic left over from that San Antonio run 5 years ago.
2) The Jackets recruiting has been going very well the past week or so. Coach Johnson and his staff are now up to eight recruits. Most notable is the fact that every single one of them are from the state of Georgia and several of them were also targeted by UGA.
The most recent commitment, from South Paulding’s Ryan Ayers, gives GT a pledge from arguably the best prep cornerback in the state and a kid that UGA wanted badly. Ayers is a four star recruit and #14 nationally at his position according to Scout.com. He’s a legit blue chipper and the type of recruit, especially on defense, that Tech needs in order to continue to compete with UGA year to year.
3) According to Dan Radakovich, Tech has sold all of its tickets for the GT vs UGA rivalry game to GT season ticket holders. That means there won’t be any extras or blocks of tickets snapped up by scalpers to be sold to UGA fans. Sure, there will be a few UGA fans who buy GT season tickets…but with their low AT point totals, they’ll have trouble buying more than an extra pair of tickets to the big game.
4) And finally…What’s the Good Word?
THWG!
Go Jackets!

The original blog by Roberson reassured that: “don’t despair if the blogs are few and far between in the coming months”.
“Few and far between”?????
It’s been exactly ONE MONTH!!! And this blog is not important enough to warrant investment of even one hour of one week to keep it up?
I sympathize with the struggle of print media to figure out what their new business model must be to survive. But if you’ve chosen to make digital your way of the future, then don’t repeat failures of print media days . . . . . get fresh content up and on. Don’t relegate perceived “secondary markets” (which you must judge Tech fans to be since you spend ZERO investment in this blog) to a status of giving time to if and when you choose to get around to it. Secondary markets, however perversely arrived at, are your primary markets of the future. Or your mistakingly identified primary market of today.
Stupid from a business perspective. And offensive from the perspective of a Tech fan.
I now check this space once in a blue moon, so mission accomplished. You’ve put us to sleep with your indifference.

It’s true! I as a Tech fan do measure our football program to the UGA’s. I believe in winning and we don’t come close to their success in the past 10 years. Ga. is a great program and I would be an idiot if I didn’t want our program to be just as successful. I believe coach Paul J. can bring us closer and help level the playing field. But there will always be one main ingrediant we will need and thats good recruiting classes each yr. UGA will always get their top 10 recr. classes, so we will need atleast top 25 to compete with them on the field each yr. Coach Johnson has already proved he can get more from less. The future looks bright for Tech. with CPJ at the helm and I truly believe we will beat GA. this year. It’s fun once again to know that we have a chance each year to compete with and possibly beat the UGA.

A Jacket won the British Open, makes two this decade. I wonder if you line the salaries and winnings up for NCAA schools and active professional players from those schools this year how Tech would rank. You got Duval and Clink finishing second in the US Open and winning the Bristish, you got baseball players from the catcher at Baltimore to the first baseman for the Yankees. You got a few basketball and football, out there too.

Jacket Steve,
I do not agree that this paper would be doing backflips and talking about it more if UGA grads were doing well in the British Open; because it’s the British Open and it’s golf. It seems if it isn’t Tiger, there isn’t as much publicity.
Also, how is it that Bill at the UGA blog updates about 4 blogs a day and this blog has had one in a MONTH!!! No wonder Tech folks come to talk on the UGA blog! I came on here to see what was being talked about and to see if as many UGA folks come here to talk crap as Tech folks do (which I can’t get a real calculation for since this is the ONLY blog and there a few Dawgs on here) on the Dawg blog. I’m a UGA Alum/fan to the bone, but I have always supported Tech when we aren’t playing each other; although the amount of BS I have had to deal the past few months and read on these UGA blogs from Tech fans is making me dislike the Jackets full time! .
AJC, this is really sad! Get someone who will update this thing more often so that Tech fans can follow and converse about their school athletics and stay off of our blog! No wonder….
After all, this is an ATLANTA paper…..sad.
GO DAWGS!

The only time a Tech fan let’s go of a dollar is to get a better grip…or when he’s being held up on campus.

Yeah, being held up on campus by a brother wearing a Dawgs hat titled sideways cause it’s red…a “blood”, not a “crip”. “Rebel Rouser”? Perfect, bubba.

@Just wondering why,
Since when is ten win seasons year in and year out, mediocre.Even Gator fans recognize that.
BTW don’t count on poor tackling by the Dawgs this year, to eek out another three point win.

To David Duvall (-2), Chan Gailey was canned even though he never had a losing season or a season without a bowl game. Tech continues clinging to Paul Loser Hewitt even though he has had only one (1) winning ACC record year in 9. His overall road record is 23-68 and he tells football recruits that they shouldn’t commit to Tech.
His poison attitude has transformed the Tech basketball atmosphere from joy to embarassment, but yet we cannot be rid of him. Does anyone really expect that a coach who has had only one winning season out of 9 can really change his stripes. Even if he wins this year, we can only anticipate 8 losing seasons to follow.
