Look at a map of the major conferences, and Tech is nestled squarely in amongst SEC schools (more so than any other ACC school...and even more than a couple SEC schools too). Atlanta is arguably still the capital of the South, I think this is just football country. That's something that even we Tech nerds understand. Go Jackets! When Bobby Dodd was coaching in the early '60's, Whack Hyder's teams were 2nd or 3rd best in the SEC, winning the SEC in 1960 and finishing 2nd to Kentucky several times. But, they seldom ever sold out the basketball arena and Dodd had a good following of 60,000 fans in the stadium. Tech will always be more enthused with their football team than their basketball, baseball, track etc. That's just the way it is.
