Macro: It took you 3 days to come up with that? You can go back and check, but I only respond to stupid comments I read on this blog, so, if you don't like it, don't say anything stupid - again.

Rating the sports programs nationaly: Based on your prediction for 2009 combined football, basketball, and baseball, rate top college sports programs: Give 7 bonus points for winning the NCAA Championship in Basketball (now in progress) and baseball, (not for football, since the champsionship is not won on the field); 25 points for finishing tops in the Rivals poll, 24 for 2d, on down to 1 point for finishing 25th.

example (2008) : UNC (44 points total: 0 football, 22 basketball (3d place); 22 baseball (3d place)

I am a UGA and Clemson season tickets holder, and yes, I purchased Tech season tickets this year just for those games - and come May 1st I have the opportunity to purchase additional UGA game tickets - that should pay for my Tech season tickets after I scalp them next November!

Gee, Buzz. Looks like you know our schedule at least as well as your own. Obsessed? Beat Clemson again - on the road, so I guess our early season schedule is easy. But yours "a lot more difficult"? Please. Lipscomb, Ga. Southern, Mercer, Kennesaw St., with more Mercer, Ga. Southern, and PRESBYTERIAN down the road. Congrats, though, on reaching the 20K mark for football season tix. Wonder how many were sold to Clemson and UGA fans.

Navigator, it has as much to do with location as it does History. Look at a map of the major conferences, and Tech is nestled squarely in amongst SEC schools (more so than any other ACC school...and even more than a couple SEC schools too). Atlanta is arguably still the capital of the South, I think this is just football country. That's something that even we Tech nerds understand.

Let's be honest, Tech is a football school no matter what their recent history shows. When Bobby Dodd was coaching in the early '60's, Whack Hyder's teams were 2nd or 3rd best in the SEC, winning the SEC in 1960 and finishing 2nd to Kentucky several times. But, they seldom ever sold out the basketball arena and Dodd had a good following of 60,000 fans in the stadium. Tech will always be more enthused with their football team than their basketball, baseball, track etc. That's just the way it is.
