I hope it is true that Keener is returning. Something needs to be done differently. Hewitt will screw up a top ten recruiting class the way he is going. High school coaches develop players better than Hewitt.

As a coach, you sometimes leave in your starters/primary players when they got drubbed that bad. You don’t leave it to the bench to relieve the embarassment. It’s a life lesson. I don’t know if that’s what CPH was doing, but that’s what I’ve done.

Hey Blazer, the reason Hewitt didn’t pull his starters the last 2 minutes was because he wanted to make a statement by stomping UNC’s JV team. That’s right the UNC subs at the end of the game were their JV players (UNC and Duke still have JV Bball teams). By the way we tied them 12 – 12. Sad, real sad. Fire Hewitt.

At his worst Tech’s beloved Bobby Cremins never approached the atrocity created by Hewitt, and Bobby finally had to go. At least he went honorably. I even miss Whack, who drove Rupp crazy. Tech didn’t hire Hewitt to be a nice guy, but to win games. He’s simply not producing and snagging one-year wonders, who don’t give a rip about Tech, doesn’t do it the long run. Next year is always that, next year. The goal is to win in the CURRENT year.

I looked up Keener on Wikipedia, and he left Tech after the final 4 year to be the head coach at James Madison. He had a miserable time there, so hopefully he is one of those guys that makes a better assistant. I also looked up Hewitt on Wikipedia. They have a picture of him, and I think it is appropriate that there are a bunch of empty seats behind him.

According to Mark Bradley, Dean Keener will be coming back next year. He was the assistant the first 4 (or 5, can’t remember exactly when he left) Hewitt years. There was a clear dropoff after both Keener and Warren (current HC at Jacksonville) left. Whether you like Hewitt or not, at least we will have a combination that has worked in the past. We went to the NCAA’s 3 of Hewitt’s first 5 years with Keener at his side, the NIT one of the other years, and even the year we didn’t make the post season we had a young team that improved as the year went on and won 8 out of the last 11. Just trying to stay positive….
