CamiCakes cupcakes

If there’s two things Atlanta seems to have enough of, it’s cupcakes and pizza. Another day, another pizza joint or cupcake factory magically appears.

CamiCakes is the latest sugar station to arrive in Atlanta, a family-owned franchise from Florida (there are locations in Jacksonville and Orange Park), named after owner Andra Hall’s adorable daughter, Camille (who will gladly open the door for you and let you know that she likes your shoes and necklace).

I like her cupcakes — made freely with butter, eggs and sugar, they’re preciously decorated, but not to an extreme. Most are crowned with a smooth tiara of icing and a tiny candy that let’s you know what flavor you’re getting. And that can be anything from lemon (a butter cake frosted with cream cheese icing laced with lemony flavor) to sweet potato (dense cake topped with cream cheese frosting). My favorite was the simplest of them all: a butter cupcake frosted with a generous swirl of old-fashioned chocolate frosting (not Swiss or Italian buttercream), blessed with a chocolate-covered malted milk ball. It tasted like my best birthday ever, even though my birthday is months away.

The space is small, sleek and pink. Very pink. And there’s free wifi, but no coffee yet. 2221-B Peachtree Road, Atlanta, 404-748-4288.

If there is a doubt regarding all of the really positive comments, my suggestion for the doubt-ters is to try these cupcakes out for yourselves…these things are awesome…and once you try them, I’ll bet you will join the parade of satisfied customers.

i tried CamiCakes today… I ate two before I made it back to the office. They were delish and worth the extra minutes on the treadmill.
