Pig N Chik in Alpharetta opened just a year ago this August, but the sister-run franchise of the popular Roswell Road BBQ joint (with another location in Chamblee) offers up a little extra something: WANGS.
“We slow cook the wings in the smoker and then fry them for two minutes when served. The smokey flavor is fabulous, really doesn’t need a wing sauce…but, we will toss them if the customer wants,” franchise owner Jacquoi Turner (who owns with sister Mary Martin — no Peter Pan jokes, please) told me via email. I haven’t tried this location’s take on the wang thang. Have you?

I guess I haven’t noticed wings at the Roswell Rd. location because I don’t eat wings. I do, however, manage to empty a plate of Pig N Chik’s pulled pork about once a week.
Not to mention the crinkle cut french fries … fat and meaty and crispy (sounds like someone I know after a day at the beach …). A good friend loves the cole slaw. And the Brunswick stew is (thankfully!) the savory kind, not the sweet kind, and is quite tasty.
I guess I’m a fan …
So back on topic, I’m sure the wings are just as good as everything else.

No, but the pork is good. I think I’ll go to the Chamblee location today.

Did you try the Windward Parkway location reservoirDAWG? I don’t know anything about Chamblee, but the Windward Parkway location is AWESOME!!! The food is mouth watering, the wings are smokey and delicious — different than any I’ve ever had before. And the owners make you feel like you are at a small town BBQ joint, not lost in an anonymous big city suburb. GIVE WINDWARD PARKWAY PIG-N-CHIC a try and then let’s hear…

Ok, mford. Let me start by saying I cook competitive bbq in the MBN so I am biased. I have been there before and it was better. I had a pulled plate and without the sauce it had no flavor. The pork had no smoke ring or bark to speak of. I also got the small plate and it was $10 with a drink, a little pricey.

Wing Lover, I will. It is near my house. Also, the Chamblee location had wings, but it did not indicate if they were like the one’s described in mford’s article. I’ll let you know.

Please do, rDAWG! Obviously, I am a big fan. I don’t cook competitively, but I could be accused of eating competitively and I can assure you the Windward Pkwy. location is at the absolute top of my list — more people should know about it and go there!!

None of the Pig-n-Chik locations have ever let me down, but the Windward location was a godsend for those of us who live nearby and can’t always make the drive to the other locations for our P-n-C fix!
Seriously, if you haven’t tried this new location, do it.
Everything is amazing, but if it’s your first time, order the ribs.
You’ll thank me later. Oink oink!

I’m no BBQ expert, but I can say that I go to the Chamblee location about once every couple of weeks for the pulled pork sandwich and I’ve never had a bad one. Some of the sides are better than others (I don’t care for their slaw) and the mac & cheese has had good days and bad days, but the pork has always been great. Also, I really like the sauces they have on the table. I usually mix all of them together on my sandwich.

We did go to the Windward location a couple of weekends ago on the recommendation of friends who said it was their favorite (we still stand by Fat Matt’s, a long drive but worth it). When we arrived to pick up our order I was concerned that we were the only ones there, as usually good barbecue is belied by crowds (we happily stand in line at Fat Matt’s). I was assured that this location was busiest at weekday lunch, which is understandable considering it’s tucked away and surrounded by office parks. We spent a good penny for a salad with turkey, and a slab and sides and tried two of the different sauces including the carolina style. My SO is from South Carolina, and that’s her preference.
The ribs were inedible, unless you like pouring a shaker of salt in your mouth. We actually called, not for a refund, but to let the restaurant know that they maybe had a bad batch of ribs on their hands. We were assured there was nothing wrong with the ribs, but after being put on hold (I suspect someone decided to taste and check) we were told that possibly they had been delivered the wrong seasoning from their supplier. They did refund us the cost of the bad slab. The whole meal over all was slightly below mediocre (the turkey had no smokey flavor at all – could have been mystery meat and was terribly drym the salad dressing is not home made), and as I said we couldn’t eat the ribs. I think I’d be afraid to try the wings, I’ll stick with Wild Wing for those, also at Windward, and travel occasionally down to the city for some Fat Matt’s.

Thanks for the recomendation on the smoked wings. We got some last weekend and they were the best wings I have ever had. We got them plain and they had a really unique smokey flavor. Glad to find them before football season.
