To David S: Please bear with certain stores that aren't up to par with recycling and sustainability measures. Publix shoppers are using cloth resuable bags in abundance where I shop. It's over the top to blast an area you now reside in about how much better your previous home was - a little tact goes a long way. Also, can't help but sliding in this comment - the state of California is in a financial meltdown right now so your timing on lauding its grandness with resusable bags is rather laughable. No one region has it all together neighbor.

You know, if the folks at the stores had any clue as to what to do with a reusable bag it would be fine, but they don't. My wife and I have been using fabric bags for 20 years, but at least in California they knew what to do with them. Here, they are so used to the plastic that they look at you funny when you hand them the fabric ones. Also, they mindlessly have been taught 3 items per bag, period. Who owns enough reusables to put only 3 items in a bag??? How about load until full??

When stores get their acts together, then maybe they can start demanding more of their customers. Until then, plastic please.
