Ever really regret eating that double cheeseburger with large fries and a shake?
The three guys who came up with the concept of Florida-based Evos did. So they came up with the idea of fast food with half the fat. They developed the concept with a green attitude, offsetting the units’ — in Florida, Nevada, North Carolina, California and now Georgia — energy usage with renewable wind energy. They use guest materials made from recyclable materials, using soy-based, not petroleum-based, inks.
And they serve burgers, fries and shakes. Plus veggie burgers and wraps. Salads. Even a corn dog. And everything has half the fat. The fries are “airfries,” a patented process that uses dry heat (you know, like an oven?) instead of a fryolater to fix ‘em up. And milkshakes are made with organic milk, sugar and fruit.
I took my hubby to lunch last Thursday at the Prado location (another is at Viewpoint on Peachtree Street) to check things out. The “tour” given by the service staff is a bit of overkill, but I guess they’re trying to get their message out. Nothing I ate was exceptional in any way — the fries are just a notch above frozen supermarket fries baked in the oven, which I secretly like anyway. My veggie burger was pretty standard, too, even when spruced up with one of the four flavored ketchups from the “ketchup karma” station. My mango guva milkshake was fresh and fruity, like a smoothie without the added gunk. But would I go again? Heck yes, especially if there was a location closer to home.
I’d rather have healthier fast-food options for me and my family than the full-on flavor of fried. And for people who eat fast food on a regular basis (stop that!), this seems like a healthier, affordable option.

I tried it the second day they were open. I wanted to like it, but the burgers had a strange, dense texture that I found unpleasant, and the fries were ennnh, even with the interesting ketchup options. I’d be willing to go and order something else, but it just seems like their flagship item should be better.

This reminds me of the Seinfeld with the “non-fat” frozen yogurt. There ain’t nothing like the real thing. Don’t fool yourself. Why spend your hard-earned dollar on a tasteless healthy burger? Just eat your FiveGuys (or whatever horrible/great thing you like), but do it less often. Happy times ensue….

I’m with Marquis on this one. As much as I’d like to try & eat healthier, it’s just not worth the $ to me if it’s gonna taste bland or even kinda nasty. Might as well enjoy yourself, just in moderation. Yay Five Guys!!
