Joe Truex of Repast is letting folks know via Facebook that he’s open from 3 to 10 p.m. on the 4th of July, serving his famous foie gras hot dogs and house-ground burgers, along with $3 beer on the patio.
Sounds like a party.
Growing up, we always had a family reunion on the 4th, with BBQ, brunswick stew, fried chicken, potato salad and my great aunt Rosa’s coconut cake, along with gobs of other goodies.
What are you and your family planning for the 4th? Do you go out, or plan a party at home?

The 4th begs the GRILL… It doesn’t matter what you grill just so long you’re grilling it…. We’ll probably do dawgs on the grill… is there any food that is more evocative of July 4th as the noble hot dog? We’ll also smoke a little pork butt… low and slow… Brunswick stew Meredith? Do you have a recipe you can share? I’m a devotee but unfortunately my “Grandma” passed before I got her church recipe. It had no beef and very little tomatoes… chicken, butter beans, corn and a small amount of potatoes… to name a few of the ingredients… Growing up in NC it was a component of my favorite meal… BBQ pork, Brunswick stew, corn bread, fresh sliced tomatoes and cucumber and onions in a vinegar and sugar…

We’ll be grilling out in Orange Beach, Alabama at our rented beachside house and watching the fireworks display put on by the City of Gulf Shores. Can’t wait!
