Pastry chef Arpana Satyu, formerly of Aja, has left the restaurant and will be opening her own “old fashioned” doughnut shop, hopefully later this summer, in Cumming. Her dishes at Aja were the only part of the experience I really enjoyed, from a dish of sweet paneer, pressed into tiny patties in milk laced with cardamom and dotted with pistachios to the mango-and-panna cotta parfait, pictured. Satyu studied at the French Culinary Institute in New York and has worked for the likes of Bobby Flay at Mesa Grill and Tom Colicchio at Craft. I’ll spill more details when I have them.
DQ’s partnership with the Girl Scouts of the USA continues this summer with the pairing of the first-ever Girl Scouts Tagalongs® Peanut Butter Patties Blizzard® Flavor Treat (what a mouthful) slated as the “blizzard of the month” for July. Been a while since you indulged in the phenom that is a Tagalong? Let me refresh your memory: Also known as Peanut Butter Patties, they are crispy cookies layered with peanut butter and covered with a chocolate coating. Dairy Queen blends Tagalong pieces with peanut butter topping and vanilla soft serve (starts in July, see above. Pay attention. We don’t want you running over to DQ today to get your fix). This is the second year Dairy Queen has partnered with Girl Scouts. Last year’s treat? Girl Scouts Thin Mint Cookie Blizzard Treat. Makes a girl ponder: Bikini or Blizzard?
