Where’s the Most Dog Friendly Restaurant?

Atlantans tend to disagree over ITP and OTP, R & B and country — even BBQ ribs versus BBQ pulled pork will spur an argument (or perhaps just a heated discussion).

But one thing Atlantans all seem to love is their dogs. Perhaps that’s why Waterhaven has opened its patio in Centergy Courtyard to canines each Saturday during lunchtime in what the restaurant is calling “pups on the patio.”

You and your four-legged friend can dine together at lunch, and the restaurant will provide water bowls. Chef Chris Lee’s homemade dog treats will be on hand (and for sale) for furry friends, too. Pups must be behaved and on leash, and all doggie business must take place in designated areas (north of Abercrombie Street or West of Willams Street). Pups who partake in monkey business will be asked to leave. 75 Fifth Street NW at the corner of Spring Street, 404-214-6740.

I’ve noticed lots of canine-friendly tidbits at restaurants. Teela Taqueria allows dogs on their patio, and Parish in Inman Park has water bowls available for pets, too. I know there are tons more. Where do you take your best (furry) friend for dining?

Again, I think the distinction needs to be made about Patio vs. Dining Room. I would never consider taking my dogs into a restaurant. Ever. But something like the L5P Brewhaus patio I always enjoy and I know the dog(s) do too. It’s all about being considerate. I have a 90 lb dog and believe me, the first thing on my mind is the other patrons (humans) comfort. If he starts whining to play, then I get the check and it’s over. No one wants to be THAT GUY. I think most dog owners have the same mindset. But like any other activity, it’s the few ‘bad apples’ that can ruin it for the rest of us.

People lover – your logic in that post escapes me.

Mad Italian on Savoy Drive in Chamblee allows dogs on their patio … it’s a great family place and the staff gladly provides a water bowl for canine guests.
