Havana Sandwich Shop to Open Again on Buford

After a fire destroyed Havana Sandwich Shop last October, Atlantans lamented the loss of Cuban and media noche sandwiches from one of the city’s most beloved mom-and-pop Cuban joints.

Owner Debbie Benedit opened Havana Restaurant & Cafe in Canton just days after the fire, but made it clear that she and her family, who had been running the Buford Highway destination for more than 30 years, might not have the heart to reopen the original.

Well, hold on to your arroz con pollo: Mrs. Benedit is back. She plans to open a sparkly new version of Havana Sandwich Shop at a new development, Crossroads Village, at 3979 Buford Highway where it intersects with Clairmont Road. (More from AJC Biz writer Rachel Tobin Ramos on the new development.)

The fire devastated tried-and-true-Cuban food lovers in the ATL, especially since it happened on the heels of Kool Korners closing just a few months prior. Look for your fix of Cuban sandwiches and ropa vieja later this year.
