WANTED: the Mud Monster’s captor!

Did y’all read about the missing Mud Monster?

Some sorry fool swiped the Grant Park Cooperative Preschool’s homemade mascot from his perch at St. Paul United Methodist Church, where the school is located. There’s been talk of building a new creature to replace the one parents and children put together (there it is, above). But for now the school is sitting tight.

“There’s still some hope that someone will just drop it off,” said preschool mom Sonia Fuller, who serves as fund-raising chairwoman.

When she told us about an upcoming benefit for the school, SB naturally hoped the money raised would put a bounty on the head of Mr. Monster’s abductor. But Methodists and preschool volunteers are not vengeful people. The haul will bolster the nonprofit school’s operating budget, which includes scholarships, classroom supplies and general operating expenses.

“You know how tough it is to raise any money right now,” Fuller said.

But that doesn’t mean it can’t be fun, right?

A group of preschool parents have formed a band called The Wipes, and they’ll perform from 3 to 5 p.m. May 2 at the Graveyard Tavern. Members include Vienna native Patres Hillis, who is classically trained in both voice and piano; Chip Harlan, a Web designer for NBA.com by day and bass player in his free time; Jason Berzsenyi, who traded golf clubs for a drum set, and educator Adam Cole, father of five.

Tickets are $8 each or two for $15 in advance, or $10 each at the door. Kids 12 and younger get in free.

If you have information leading to the Mud Monster’s safe return, they might dedicate a song to you. Info: www.GPCP.org or 404-521-0440.
