Every citizen is going to have a rude cop story. Every cop is going to have rude citizen stories. But for the most part interactions are civil and polite. There are some on this board that absolutely hate Law Enforcement to the point that they make libelous statements against individual officers. I have also met LEO’s that treat the public with contempt. These folks are the minority and usually don’t last that long around Gwinnett. I can tell you first hand that the Sherriff and Police Chief of Gwinnett County will investigate any report of deputy/officer misconduct. Use your heads folks, if you have a problem or are mistreated by a Deputy Sheriff or Police Officer make a complaint. It makes more sense than bitchin to Badie.

I guess I’m in the minority here. I fully respect and trust police officers, judges, anyone who serves a role of authority. If I have had a disagreement in which I did once, I still respected the officer and I took it up in front of a judge who dismissed my ticket. It’s not a big deal. The police can make mistakes, they are human, but arguing or just plane disrespecting them makes the situation a lot worse. I don’t look for trouble, and the police don’t look to give me any trouble. Every dealing I’ve had has been somewhat pleasant.

I’m not sure about automatically giving respect to anyone. I think respect is earned. I treat police officers how they treat me–not that I’ve had many dealings with them. If they are respectful to me, I will return respect. They made a choice to become police officers, just like those in the military–I don’t automatically respect them either. Job choice does not equate to respect.

Just ask you mom, she sees me everyday while she is scrubbing the toilets. I usually throw her a tip so she can bring an extra pot pie for you back at the trailer.

If the cop is respectful to me I am fine with him/her. My dealings with Dekalb PD which include our neighbor hood watch officer have been great and an 2 officers that wrote up an accident for me were also polite!! But some cop in Gwinnett County had problems with my NRA sticker. His attitude was horrible. typical liberal I am sure!
