Property assessments: In the mail

Coming soon to your mailbox: 2009 property tax assessments. Homeowners will get to see just how much value has been lost in their homes, thanks to the foreclosure crisis and financial tsunami. It stands to be painful, but what is one to do? Does anyone out there in Gwinnett plan to appeal their 2009 assessments?

So, my homestead exemption means nothing? they can raise my taxes anywawy? I don’t mind if they lower it, but I thought my homestead exemption kept the taxes level.

But still the point I was trying to make, is that little piece of paper doesn’t mean much when it comes to the real market value of your home. It could be less like 2 years ago when I sold mine, or it could be more than what you could sell it for today because of foreclosures and what not. If you’re assessment is lower than you would like it to be, take the cheaper taxes. Don’t be silly and appeal it, that’s like begging the county to take more of your money.

Yeah, Mark, and if you don’t have to deal with it, not to worry, you can always start something, keepon making yourself important, a a bigoted legend in your own mind.
