GRAYSON, Ga. — Robert Nkemdiche, the nation’s undisputed No. 1 overall college football prospect, officially de-committed from Clemson on Thursday. You can get a quick recap here.

The 6-foot-5, 284-pound defensive end from Grayson High School had been committed to Clemson since June.

At Grayson on Thursday evening, Nkemdiche looked upbeat as he exchanged hugs and high fives with coaches as the team’s football practice concluded. Nkemdiche politely declined interview requests, but did say he had not re-activated his Twitter account and that somebody was impersonating him.

Grayson coach Mickey Conn did a Q&A with the AJC to explain the 5-star recruit’s decision to de-commit:

Carl Lawson vaults all the way to No. 2 in ESPN rankings (video)

The new ESPN rankings came out this week, and Carl Lawson has vaulted all the way up the charts to the nation’s No. 2 overall prospect — right another Georgian, Robert Nkemdiche.

Lawson, a 6-foot-2, 250-pound defensive end from Milton High School, was No. 5 in the previous rankings. “It’s pretty cool, I guess,” he said.

Lawson is also a member of the AJC’s Super 11 team. He has had a monster senior season, racking up 21 sacks despite being blocked by two or three defenders on most plays.

What’s the latest with recruiting? Lawson remains committed to Auburn and told the AJC again on Wednesday that he will wait until after his senior season to decide whether or not he will visit other colleges.

Lawson said he was being recruited the hardest by Auburn, Tennessee, UCLA, USC, Clemson, North Carolina, Florida State, Oklahoma State, and Auburn.

Robert Nkemdiche to visit UGA, mother talks to Mark Richt

(See above video)

UGA is considered to be a longshot for Robert Nkemdiche, the nation’s No. 1 overall prospect who is committed to Clemson but flirting with Ole Miss.

Nkemdiche, along with his parents, will make an unofficial visit to UGA on Saturday to watch his older brother, Denzel Nkemdiche, who is a star linebacker for Ole Miss.

Does UGA have a chance for Nkemdiche? The Bulldogs are considered a longshot. But they do have at least one thing over the school he’s currently committed to (Clemson) – UGA Mark Richt spoke over the telephone this week with Nkemdiche’s mother, according to the 5-star prospect.

And when asked about UGA’s chances on Thursday night, Nkemdiche was respectful of the Bulldogs and said, “I don’t know. I could fall in love when I get there. I haven’t been there in forever, so I don’t know.”

The 6-foot-4, 310-pound defensive tackle from Dooly County High School is ranked as the nation’s No. 2 overall prospect – regardless of position – by 247sports.com.

Clemson and Auburn are rumored to be the co-leaders for Adams, who has not officially listed any favorites. Adams is clearly one of UGA’s top remaining targets for its 2013 class. Adams recently made an unofficial visit to UGA; however, his mother could not make the trip.

The 5-star recruit is scheduled to return to UGA next month for the Ole Miss game. He said he will bring his mother along, too.

Langley committed to South Carolina this past summer, but has been flirting heavily with UGA, attending a pair of recent home games with the Bulldogs. UGA appeals to Langley because it will allow him to play both football and basketball.

However some things have changed in recent days.

  • Why did he change this weekend’s visit to South Carolina from an official to an unofficial? Is that good news for UGA?

Tyren Jones: Does UGA have a chance at Alabama RB commit?

Does UGA have a chance at the speedster who some rank as the state’s No. 1 prospect at RB?

Tyren Jones of Walton High School has been committed to Alabama since early last spring. Jones is the member of the AJC’s Super 11 team.

The 5-foot-8, 192-pounder has maintained that he will visit some other schools. Earlier this month, Jones told DawgNation that one of his official visits will be to UGA.

UGA is also in the sweepstakes for the other RB who is ranked by some as the state’s best – Alvin Kamara of Norcross High School. Kamara has UGA and Alabama as his co-leaders.

Ironically, both Jones and Kamara could be affected by Friday’s decision of 5-star RB Derrick Henry, who de-committed from UGA and is now deciding between Alabama, Tennessee and the Bulldogs.

Recruiting Diary: AJC Super 11 QB Eddie Printz (plus video)

Some of Atlanta’s college football prospects will be writing a weekly diary for the AJC until February’s signing day. They will be sharing their thoughts, opinions, adventures and perspectives on the recruiting journey.

Eddie Printz led Lassiter High School to its first-ever appearance in the state semifinals last year. He completed 277 of 442 passes for 3,350 yards and 28 touchdowns with 9 interceptions. Printz committed to SMU last September, and later switched to UCLA in January.

August was an exciting month.  I was selected to The AJC Super 11 which is the highest individual honor for a high school player in Georgia.  I am humbled by this recognition.  Guys I know like Jamal Lewis, Joe Burns and Robert Cromartie were Super 11 players.  Don’t ask me how the selection process works because I don’t know about stats, stars or anything other than wins.  Like Coach Ron Veal says, stay hungry and humble.  It is a huge honor and credit to my Lassiter …

Which 5-star OL prospect and 4-star RB is Ramsey actively trying to recruit for UGA? He talks about it in the video.

UGA fans in the Atlanta area got a glimpse of the team’s “QB of the future” this weekend.

Ramsey, who committed to UGA last summer before he even started a high school football game, starred in Camden County’s 42-0 win over Peachthree Ridge in the Corky Kell Classic at the Georgia Dome on Satuday.

The 6-foot-3 Ramsey didn’t get many chances to throw out of Camden County’s Wing-T offense but he made the most out of the opportunities. Ramsey connected on 6 of 8 passes for 132 yards and 3 touchdowns. He also had another TD pass go through the hands of wide receiver.

Maybe most surprising was that Camden County, perhaps trying to take …
