Notebook: WWRFD … What Will Reuben Foster Do? (UPDATED)

Arkansas is the most recent scholarship offer for LaGrange High School defensive end Joe Sanders, who has been best friends with 5-star Reuben Foster since the sixth grade.

Sanders committed to former Tennessee coach Derek Dooley and officially remains pledged to the Volunteers; but he is considering other options due to the coaching change.

Sanders will make an official visit this weekend to Washington, accompanied by Reuben Foster and another one of his longtime friends, Troup High School offensive tackle Maurice Swain. All three are are childhood buddies, played together at Troup last season, and are likely being recruited as a “package deal” by Washington.

New Tennessee coach Butch Jones has 3 commits from Georgia. The Volunteers are also in the chase for Carl Lawson and Vonn Bell (UT)

New Tennessee coach Butch Jones has 3 commits from Georgia. The Volunteers are also in the chase for Carl Lawson and Vonn Bell (UT)

“I don’t know about that,” said Sanders, when asked about a package deal. “I just know they (Washington) called, they wanted me to visit, and they’re supposed to offer me.”

Will Sanders and Foster play together in college? “That’s what we are shooting for. But we haven’t talked much recently with Reuben moving all the way in Auburn, Ala. We’ll have a lot of time on the plane (back and forth to Washington) to talk about recruiting.”

The 6-foot-5, 270-pound Sanders said he has offers from Arkansas, Missouri, Vanderbilt, North Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky and Duke. One more offer he wouldn’t mind is UGA. He went on an unofficial visit with Foster to see UGA defeat Georgia Tech.

“I’d like to get one from Georgia, but it really doesn’t matter to me as long as I have the chance to play in the SEC,” Sanders said. “I know Washington is not in the SEC, but I don’t have a problem going there either. I’m just going out there to see how everything is.”

What was Sanders’ reaction to the Arkansas offer? “It feels good. I don’t know too much about them. I know they’ve got a whole new coaching staff, and they’ve had some good seasons. That’s another school I have to look into. I might take an official visit there. I’ve only got three right now.”

Sanders will go to Washington this weekend, Tennessee on Jan. 18, and North Carolina on Jan. 25.

What’s the latest with Tennessee? “I’m still committed. I talked to Coach (Butch) Jones, and he asked me how I felt about Tennessee. He said he still wants me there … I’m just visiting some schools to make sure I’m making the right decision.”

WWRFD?

What’s the latest with Reuben Foster? He has returned from the Under Armour All-America game, where ex-UGA recruiting coordinator Rodney Garner was seen carrying around his MVP trophy in the hotel lobby after the game.

Prediction: Reuben Foster will be one of the nation's most unpredictable prospects to follow over the next three weeks. Should be fun to follow (AJC)

Prediction: Reuben Foster will be one of the nation's most unpredictable prospects to follow over the next three weeks. Should provide for a lot of entertainment (AJC)

Foster told AuburnUndercover’s Bryan Matthews that Auburn, UGA, Alabama, LSU and Washington are still in contention but that he plans to only visit three. “I’m going to take all five of them so get ready to call coaches and be upset. Don’t know which ones, but there’s going to be two upset.” Foster is tentatively scheduled to visit UGA on Jan. 25.

Foster de-committed from Auburn because it did not retain his mentor, Trooper Taylor. The Auburn media has tried to document Foster’s relationship with Auburn’s new defensive coordinator, Ellis Johnson. Foster told the website that “I love (Johnson)” and he “reminds me of my granddaddy.” Johnson, 61, probably enjoyed that one.

While all of Foster’s finalists would probably accept his commitment, some of them reportedly “aren’t sweating it” if he goes elsewhere because of all the drama associated with his situation. What’s my prediction on Foster? One recruiting analyst said this about the free-spirited Foster: “He will probably go with the school that talks to him last before he signs the paper.” I agree with that. But if I had to guess today, I’d pick Auburn. Just think Foster went to all the trouble to move to Auburn, bringing his daughter along, and his mother got a job there. However, it should be a fun one to follow over the next month.

LSU IN SWEEPSTAKES FOR 5-STAR?

LSU is trying to get involved with Carl Lawson, the 5-star defensive end from Milton who is officially committed to Auburn. Lawson will visit Clemson this weekend, and likely set up a recruiting trip next to Tennessee. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Lawson make his final decision sooner than later because he’s tired of the recruiting hoopla.

THIS AND THAT

QB Chase Rosenberg

QB Chase Rosenberg

Among the state’s top uncommitted prospects is Brett Sheehan, the QB from Collins Hill High School who backed his pledge to Florida International after the coaching change. Sheehan told the AJC that he’s hearing from Georgia State, Illinois State, Furman, Florida Atlantic, Florida International and Bowling Green. “I have an official visit set up for Georgia State on Jan, 18, and then I plan on taking one or two more, if possible,” Sheehan said. “I’ll most likely not commit anywhere until right before signing day. Or, depending on the situation, I might wait until after signing day. As of now, I would say Georgia State is my leader but I am keeping my options open.” …  Chase Rosenberg, QB from Centennial High School, is in the mix with some top academic schools, including Brown, Dartmouth, Penn, Davidson and Georgetown. Rosenberg, who passed for nearly 2,300 yards and 18 touchdowns in his first year as a starter, is also starting to hear from some FBS schools, according to his father. You can watch his film HERE … Another overlooked prospect to watch is Zach Adams, a 6-5, 280-pound offensive tackle from Roswell High School. He gave up three sacks in two seasons – all to Carl Lawson (one in 2011 and two last season). “I can tell you that Zach is a great whose best days of football are ahead of him,” said former Roswell coach Justin Sanderson. Adams has a 3.4 GPA and strong interest from Georgia Tech, Duke, Ohio, Elon, William & Mary and Georgia Southern. You can watch his film HEREGrayson High School is sending another senior to a BCS school: Kicker Alex Louthan has decided to join West Virginia as a preferred walk-on … Is South Carolina in danger of losing a commit from Georgia? West Forsyth High School LB Mo Camara, who has been committed to the Gamecocks (his first offer) since last spring, was recently offered by Wake Forest. Camara told the AJC on Thursday night that he will likely take an official visit with the Demon Deacons on Jan. 25, which is one week after his trip with the Gamecocks.

Maybe Reuben could get a “W” tatoo while he’s out there. Then he could blame his indecisiveness on George Bush.

If I was a recruit I wouldn’t even talk to Garner this late in the process. Just 2 weeks ago he was all Georgia and if he wasn’t strongly recruiting for Georgia back then but is strongly recruiting for Auburn now, the same recruits , it would most definitely reflect on his sincerity which would reflect on his integrity. If he is coming on a not stronger to recruits now , I would ask him why didn’t you recruit me that strong back when you were with Georgia.

If I was any of these recruits I would pick UGA. It is more of an honor to play between the heges then any of those other “schools” combined. I’m sure CMR could get them on at Augusta too whenever they want.

Good afternoon from Seattle!

Here are some very interesting comments from Mr. Foster:

“…I fly out to Washington on Friday,”…”I am ready to get back out there. I loved it out there the first time and I am ready to get back.”…”I love the atmosphere at Washington…I never thought I would like a school that is so far from home, but I like it a lot….I just felt good when I was there and everything felt right for me in that environment. I liked the stadium, the coaches, the water around the campus, and all of that. I am ready to get back up there.”

Some may wonder if Foster could really leave his home state of Alabama and travel close to 2,500 miles to live for the next four year.

Foster was quick to respond to that. “I need to get away, I need a new home, and I need to eliminate some distractions I have around me, so yes, I have no problem going to Washington….I never thought I would be saying that, but it is true. I want a new start and I have been thinking about that. Distance is not going to matter to me.
“I kind of fell in love with them when I visited them the first time and they have been on my list ever since…”

Must be sad for all the haters on here watching this 18 year kid try and make up his mind about school. People have posted drug use, going to jail, and everything else in order to paint this kid and his friends as bad and self absorbed. What sad life to awake to each morning by posting their ignorance on here about some teens who mostly don’t know you idiots exist. Get a life people.

We need DEs, the top 2 DEs both live in state within an hour and a half from Athens. 1 isn’t going to sign with us and we didn’t even try and recruit the other. I don’t get it.

Tide Roll — let me help you out a little bit, bro:
It’s uncommon for interior Offensive Linemen to be taken high in NFL drafts.
Offensive Tackles are taken in the top 5 as much as QB’s are.
It would be a great accomplishment for Warmack to be taken in the top 10 or top 15, considering he’s a Guard.
Now, once again, I remind you Warmack was holding a clip-board for the ‘09 National Title Team.
I assure you, 100% our starting Line that year was:
LT — James Carpenter — your boy from Hephzibah.
LG — Mike Johnson — current Falcon & an All-American in ‘09.
C — William Vlachos
RG — Barrett Jones — perhaps the most decorated Bama Linemen is history — which actually says something considering we’ve produced the likes of John Hannah, Sly Croom, Dwight Stephonson & Chris Samuel, to name a few.
RT — Drew Davis

As always TR, I’m here to help.
We all know you’re not a Bama fan, butt an excellent dwag agitator, nonetheless.

I imagine Reuben will do exactly what Robert Nkemdiche is doing… whichever university serves up the biggest best tossed salad then that’s the uniform he will wear!

Dude’s playing the media, the coaches and his friends… he’s street smart… though it’s going to be hard to beat the man at his own game.

Nick Saban pockets $310,000 extra bonus for winning the MNCG… Mark Richt pockets $100,000 extra bonus for just finishing in the top 5 of the final AP poll.

Forbes has compiled their annual list of most profitable football programs. Seven of the top ten are from the SEC.

Rk Team Conference Value Revenue Profit
($Mil) ($Mil) ($Mil)

1 Texas Big 12 133 104 78
2 Michigan Big 10 120 85 62
3 N/D Indep 103 69 43
4 LSU SEC 102 69 45
5 UGA SEC 99 75 52
6 Bama SEC 95 82 45
7 Gators SEC 93 74 51
8 Auburn SEC 85 77 44
9 UTk SEC 84 55 35
10 Ark SEC 83 64 40

Time to stop the corruption…. pay the players Legally! You can tell who pays the most by comparing the revenue against the profit earned…. actually shows teams expenditure’s.

Alabama is spending 37 million against UGA’s 23 million… for some reason both Alabama & Auburn’s expenditure are about 13 – 9 million more than the average top 10 teams in this group??

Not sure if this will up load in order… but here goes…

Anything we hear through Friday will all be speculation and fans hoping. Dead period or no contact period run through Friday. After Saturdays visits we may hear something but most of the big time recruits will wait until signing day to get their last spot light before they get to college and the real , hard work starts.
I just hope that ever recruit considering Georgia and Alabama will think a minute and realize that Georgia came within 5 yards of playing Notre Dame and winning a National Title and Alabama has dominated top spot in Recruiting for the last 3 or 4 years. Just think how good Georgia would have been if some of those 4 and 5 star recruits had gone to Georgia. Georgia has done a lot more with less quality rated recruits. Alabama has gotten choice recruits for the last few years and lost to Texas A&M and barely beat Georgia. Looks to me that Richt and his coaches have done a very good job coaching up the players.

The ONLY reason Foster and his friends are going to visit Washington State is to smoke some good weed. They have no interest in playing football in the Pac-10, only smoking the finest west coast buds. I’m sure he will have a great trip and be higher than he has ever been. If you think they are visiting Washington for any other reason, then you lack common sense!

UGA has the same highly ranked recruiting classes Bama has.

Coaching players up??
Are you talking about players like Mount Cody, Marcel Dareus, Chance Warmack, Javy Arenas, Mike Johnson, Brad Smelley — all 3star players transformed into NFL players?
Are you talking about the elite QB’s we’ve had under the Saban Dynasty — JP Wilson, Greg McElroy & AJ McCarron?
All of which are QB’s UGA fans have stated several times aren’t good enough to play at UGA.

@MC regarding that “prayer” of getting admitted: If you check the history of non academic qualifiers not allowed to enroll at Georgia, you’ll find that some, without any improvement over the Spring semester, were allowed to enroll at such places as LSU, Arkansas, South Carolina, West Virginia, South Florida, Cnetral Florida, etc. Is this not the same issue, to a much higher degree, at GT and Notre Dame? I’m going to follow my instincts on this one. Nkemdiche’s brother was not offered until late because of grades and ACT scores. But he had offers from Clemson and Ole Miss on the table before that. Go figure? I’m not saying this is the sole reason why Georgia is not in R. Nkemdiche’s top 3, but Georgia’s coaching staff definitely were not in hot pursuit.

Maybe Rueben will join the 35 other recruits Georgia will sign this year, oops 13 count for last year but still it will be a class of around 35. I am sure the Big 10 will love UGA. I am also sure the AJC will not mind that Georgia signs 35 like they did other SEC schools. Thanks to media the SEC restricted itself to 25 which is a shame this eliminates the chance to sign and place a kid in Jr. college or Prep school. It also means the school can only take a chance on one or two with grade issues where before they could sign extra to compensate for those who did not qualify. Now they can sign six with grade issues and take a chance that all will fail to qualify and thus have a smaller class of 19. However they get a reward for failing by getting a mulligan if all fail to qualify. If that happens they get the equivalent of 6 compensatory extra picks next year. Yes they can take six extra the next year and back count them since they only signed 19, well that is if they can find six who are Early Enrollee’s not a problem today. Same thing as over-signing, as both are just a different way of stacking the deck to make sure you get the numbers up to 85. Only the Big Ten has the 25 limit and you can bet Urban Meyer will figure a way around it like Ga. and Texas AM have the SEC rule. What Ga. and AM are doing by back-counting is perfectly legal and fair, and the SEC should have never changed the rule to begin with it as it puts all the SEC schools at a disadvantage to the surrounding conferences.

take it or leave it, but I think Foster is in for some difficult academic times between now and next July. I don’t think he is going to quaify. He’s been too busy taking Hooter’s Girls all over the place with him, and basically dicking off for the last seven months.
