Mark Richt comments on UGA’s JC signees

UGA is expected to have its largest signing class in more than a decade, with 30-35 in February. On Thursday, Mark Richt commented on two junior college players that signed with the Bulldogs this week.

  • DT Chris Mayes, 6-4, 330, Mississippi Gulf Coast junior college. Richt: “Chris Mayes of course is a guy we signed earlier and then he had to go the junior college route. If I’m not mistaken, I think Chris played his freshman year and the second year he redshirted. I’m pretty sure. I think he’s got three years to play three, like (Mark) Beard did. And that’s starting to happen more and more in the junior college ranks, which I think is fantastic for these guys. For a guy like that to come in and have three years of eligibility after graduating from junior college — and graduating at the midyear — (means) a guy gets spring ball and three seasons. It’s really about as good as it gets … He’s a big noseguard — well, D-lineman. I don’t know if he’ll end up being the nose or not, but he can play inside. He’s about a 330-pounder and a very athletic kid. He’s a guy that we really liked out of high school and we’re just glad that he’s with us now.”
  • WR Chris Rumph, 6-5, 220, Holmes junior college. Richt: “He’s very fast, he’s an explosive athlete and he’s going to come in and compete for playing time immediately like we expect for him to. When we bring junior college guys in, we really do expect them to compete right away for playing time. Jonathon, he’s a very talented guy and we’re glad we got him.” On whether comparing Rumph to Cordarelle Patterson is applicable: “I don’t know about that. We’ll see. He’s a very talented guy, though. He’s had a very good junior college career. I think he’s got two years of eligibility left. I think the played the first two years, but we’ll give him an opportunity to go out there and make plays just like anybody. Every guy we sign, we’re going to give them that opportunity, but it’s nice for him to have that jump-start in the spring as well.”

I am so glad that Richt is finally embracing the idea of bring in a few JR. College players to fill gaps from players leaving early.

Great! Now let’s start offering some more big WRs for the 2014 class to go with the speedy ones. Still need to beef up on both sides of the ball. Need to be getting after Crowder, Tunsil and Adams. Don’t worry about Foster, he’s spurned UGA twice. This recruiting class has a good stable of ILB talent coming in. Focus on the beef. Need another good DB and OLB.

Man what might have been. AND ALL IN-STATE KIDS. LT Delando Crooks. 6′5″ 270lbs, and growing like a weed (Vandy Bound. There’s goes the old “Can’t pick up the system” spin). Left Guard, Octavious Jackson 6′5″ 280 lb. (Former teammate of your Xzavier Ward at Colquitt County. Just made too much sense for the DAWGS to sign him I guess. He’s Florida bound.) Center 6′4″313 lb. Max Garcia. Norcross High and ready to roll. Who needs this guy when you’ve already got a 5′11″ 270 lb,center/ earthmover from the Weslyan School?). Max, like Octavious Jackson, is a Florida Gator. Right Guard. 6′5″ 330 lb.Shamire Devine. Absolute freak of Nature. Reminds many of your left guard. 6′ 280 lb. Dallas Lee from Buford. Devine to Ga. Tech. Right Tackle. 6′8″ 350 lb. former Dawg Commit, Trent Brown. No way this man mountain displaces Theus,(From Bolles Academy) and talent has nothing to do with it. (Know what I mean) Trent signed (INCREDIBLY!) with Will Muschamp and the Gators yesterday! Muschamp apparently was asking for Richt’s address yesterday. Something about a Christmas present for the “tan man”. QB. Marietta High, Elite 11 Regional winner, and get this, UGA Legacy. 6′2″ 215 pound stick of dynamite: ANTHONY JENNINGS. Richt/Booboo decide to pass on Anthony so he can early enroll for two time National Champ LSU. Les Miles wants Richt’s AND Booboo’s addresses. Something about a tanning lamp for Richt and a case of Bud for Bozo. Merry Christmas Dawg fans. 32, no wait, it’s now 33 years, right?

Is this a new rule about signing Juco players early? Not all Juco’s sign this early, or do they? What about Toby Jahnson? Or John Atkins (I think he went to a prep school though).

We must be getting better all the time. Used to be that only Ga. Techies came on our site to attack us. But the toothless Bama rednecks certainly seem to be very, very interested in everything we do lately. They probably should be concerned.

Careful Uncle Tom…Ride Troll isn’t a Bama fan, he just loves big, overweight teenage boys. He’s on all the blogs, compulsively tapping out the key physical attributes of, uhumph,”his boys”…

Theus is better than any of the guys you mentioned who got away, but you already know that. Ditto Laremy Tunsil. Tyrone Crowder is the icing on the cake.

What is Les giving Saban for Bama letting Jennings get away?

With the departure of this senior class and the few leaving early, how many freshman and red shirt freshmen will on the team 2013? How many first time players versus veterans players. 2013 seems to have a low number of Jrs and Srs.

I think we have some very talented skill guys and LBs coming in. However, if we end up with only the three OLs committed so far, this class will be a disappointment.

Can’t wait for some more of Moist Turd’s brilliant commentary. Moist Turd’s team is a perennial qualifier for the Toilet Bowl. Mr Whiffle is the star of the half-time show.

Really glad to have Mayes and Rumph on board.

All I really want for Christmas: All of the current committed recruits to sign, and for my stocking stuffers (really big stockings)–Montravius Adams, Reuben Foster, Toby Johnson, Alvin Kamara, and Laremy Tunsil. (In alphabetical order-last names).
Come on Santa!!! We know that Santa is a Bulldawg fan with all that pretty red he wears.

Merry Christmas to all!
WOOF!!!
