5-star DT Montravius Adams will visit UGA on Jan. 25

Montravius Adams, who is ranked as the nation’s No. 2 overall prospect by 247sports, will take one of his last recruiting trips before signing day to UGA.

The 6-foot-3, 300-pound defensive tackle from Dooly County High School has selected four of his five official visits, according to his coach Jimmy Hughes. Adams will go to:

  • Florida after the Under Armour game on Jan. 6
  • Clemson on Jan. 11
  • Alabama on Jan. 18
  • UGA on Jan. 25
  • TBA for Feb. 1

What about UGA? “My mom really likes Georgia, and they’re my hometown school,” Adams told the AJC on Wednesday. “I really like the coaches. I know their coaches aren’t about to leave. Their coaches are stable, which means they don’t leave a lot, like some of the other schools. Also, at Georgia, you can get a great education.”

Adams was also asked about a Dawg247 report that Rodney Garner, who is both UGA’s recruiting coordinator and defensive line coach, is a candidate to join Auburn’s coaching staff. How does Montravius feel about that? “If Coach Garner left, that would definitely make a difference with how I feel about Georgia. I really like Coach Garner. He would be my (position) coach if I went there, so …”

UGA could be his last visit, if he doesn’t set up a fifth one for the Feb. 1 weekend. There are several schools in the running for that spot, including Ole Miss, North Carolina and Auburn. “I’m really not sure about that last one. I don’t know yet.”

RELATED: Montravius Adams told ESPN’s DawgNation’s Kipp Adams that he visited briefly with Garner in the Georgia Dome before last Saturday’s Class A state championship game against ECI: “I only remember talking to Coach [Rodney] Garner from Georgia, and he told me about the style of offense ECI plays and how he hates going up against Georgia Tech and Georgia Southern because every year he will have a defensive lineman get hurt in that game,” Adams said. “I went down in the game and I was thinking he was right. I know Coach Garner talked to my mom, too, and she likes him.”

I hope if Garner go’s to Auburn that it will not matter one way or the other with Adams because for me Adams is the number one player that is a must for this years recruit’s going to Georgia.
If Garner does leave I hope that Bobo will get the Recruiting Coordinator job and a big raise. Bobo has done a great job become relevant to the Georgia program.

Coach Garner pulls this same crap every year. He floats rumors that other schools want him just to leverage Georgia for a raise. I hope McGarity has the gonads to call his bluff this time around. Please let Garner go to Auburn. He hasn’t recruited well for Georgia in 10 years. He’s lazy, always offering Georgia kids too late. Please let him go, and promote Bobo to recruiting coordinator. Bobo can’t call plays but he can dip snuff and recruit like crazy.

That is great news about Adams visiting right before he commits and as for Garner i agree that Bobo is a much better recruiter than Garner .

Coach tell the players that have been HURT playing GT and GA SOU.
Were they HURT because of something illegal? Were your players just not well coached enough to play the game?
I think UGa had players hurt laying ANY team on their schedule.
Gardner is lying or stretching the facts to say the least. I guess ADAMS shouldn’t want to come to UGa cause they play TECH every year and that means 4 chances to end his NFL future…..Haha what a crock of crap.

Montravius,

First, run, don’t walk from the dogs. You will play a 100% BS out of conference schedule, lose to FL, USC and Vandy worst case, and get 350 rush yards on your D in the SEC! SEC! championship at best.

Second, I know you mother named you but need to go by Mo or Monty or something, The name sounds like Ice Tea and Coco’s dog ( no pun) “Sparticus”

Run, Mo, Run. Go with a winner of big games against top ranked opponents. That ain’t dogs.

I suppose you do watch some football, although you appear to have very little understanding of the game. You have to be a tech. fan.
There is a little thing called a chop block, that big defensive linemen, with their big legs, have trouble avoiding. There is even some talk of banning it circulating around the NCAA. That is what is being referred to by the coach. Of course, you never had to worry about that, because table tennis doesn’t involve physical contact from your opponent, at least while the game is being played.

Garner is just bluffing UGA into giving him a raise. That’s BS. He’s not going anywhere, nor has anyone offered him a job at Auburn. Pure rumors planted by Garner himself to get a raise.

You never know, but Adams would certainly be a great get. I know GA has been physcially worn out in the last two SEC championship games (LSU and AU were once in a lifetime type teams), but with Taylor, and Adams and the other lineman GA has committed already, they could build the depth to deal with OLs like Alabama’s and other physical lines in the SEC. I for one am happy with the work Garner has done recruiting. We have not got all the in state talent, but with the programs we compete with, we will never get them all, although winning the SEC outright would definitly help. Tunsil and Adams would make this recruiting class a monster. Go Dawgs!!!

I think it is called COACHING to learn how to deal with blockers. The chop block is illegal already.
The NFL allows CUT BLOCKS so if he doesn’t learn how to deal with it in college what will he do if he goes to the NFL?

The TBD is between Ole Miss & UNC… doubt Adams uses the fifth… he wants to strap on the “G” but don’t put too much pressure or expect too much from Montravius… remember he plays in the smallest division in GHSA and will take sometime getting use to playing against SEC size players who will be just as big and quick as he is.

Reuben Foster will also take his OV to UGA on the same weekend 1/25/13… would also be great to bring in Tyrone Crowder for his OV that same weekend.

Matthew Thomas’s OV to UGAwill be on 2/01/13

Something up with CB Adrian Baker 6′ 1″ 163lbs Hollywood FL (Chaminade-Madonna Prep) just de-committed from FSU on 12/17/12 could be why Shaq Wiggins is a little upset?

Chris Mayes & Kennar Johnson have faxed in their UGA LOI… hopefully followed up soon by Jonathon Rumph… today is the first day that JUCO’s can sign their Letter of Intent.

The 2013 recruiting class should be known as the Sic’em Class cause it’s going to be SICK… UGA will be GATA.

Man, I had the priviledge of watching the replay of the Marietta – Newnan game, and the Marietta McEachern game. To borrow the quote Newnan’s head coach after the game: “If there’s a better Quarterback in the State than Anthony Jennings, we don’t want to face him!” Lowndes Couty’s Head Coach said, “He’s everything and more they said he was.” His 45 yard run up the gut where he absolutely freezes Tray Matthews is required viewing. 6′2″ 205 with room to grow. HAS GOT TO BE ONE OF THE PHYSICALLY STRONGEST QB(S) IN THE COUNTRY. LES MILES HAS GOT TO BE THRILLED! Anthony’s GPA will allow him to enroll at LSU in January. The kid will push Mettenberger, guaranteed. And he was a UGA legacy. Seems like Richt and Booboo would have learned from Cam. For Richt and Bobo to fail to go after this kid proves two things. Richt/Booboo don’t know what the hell they’re doing AND y’all have the most comical football program in America! 32, no wait, 33 years. No damn wonder. Bobo is absolutely killing you.
