Alvin Kamara: UGA or Alabama for 4-star RB?

Saturday night’s Class AAAAAA state championship matches up the state’s top two running backs.

Norcross High School’s Alvin Kamara vs. Lovejoy’s Travis Custis.

Custis is committed to Georgia Tech, while Kamara could be playing at archival UGA. Kamara has the Bulldogs as his co-leaders with Alabama, with Oregon still in the mix.

Alvin Kamara?

There’s also Walton High School’s Tyren Jones, who is committed to Alabama, but his senior season – and his team’s championship hopes — ended abruptly after a knee injury.

The 5-foot-10, 195-pound Kamara is another one in the pipeline of prospects out of Norcross, the Gwinnett County powerhouse.

“He can just do so many things,” Norcross coach Keith Maloof said. “He can catch the ball out of the backfield and had a 65-yard scoring reception (in the semifinals). He threw a touchdown pass (in the quarterfinals) … The kid can do just about anything you ask him to do.”

How fast is Kamara? “He’s quick,” Maloof said. “When he gets his shoulders squared north and south, he can get skinny through the (defensive front), get to the secondary and make people miss.”

Last Friday, Alabama’s Kirby Smart and UGA’s Mike Bobo were among the assistants that attended the Norcross win over Colquitt County in the semifinals to observe Kamara.

What about UGA? Kamara is the recruit that the Bulldogs desperately seek on offense, especially after 5-star Derrick Henry defected to Alabama. Kamara is much higher ranked that another UGA commit at RB, AJ Turman of Orlando — who came out of nowhere to commit to the Bulldogs over Tennessee last month. There’s also UGA commit Tramel Terry of Goose Creek, S.C., who is expected to get a look at RB.

Here are some of the other prospects on Norcross:

  • #3 Shon Atkins, CB: The 5-8, 165-pound cornerback committed early to Cal, and is sticking with the Pac 12 school, despite the coaching change. Atkins has a reputation for making the big hit out of the secondary. “He’s a great lockdown corner, and he’s physical,” Maloof said. “He’s committed to Cal, unless something comes along that he thinks is better. But at this time, he’s pretty solid to Cal, and I think that’s what he’s going to do.”
  • #9 Jahmal Jones, DE: The late-blooming senior has offers from Southern Miss, Utah State, Middle Tennessee State and Marshall. He’s 6-2, 227 pounds.
  • #5 Myles Autry, RB-WR: The 5-10, 175-pounder is one of the state’s top juniors with a dozen early scholarship offers, including Georgia Tech and UGA. His older brother, Anthony Autry, signed with the Yellow Jackets last year. “Myles is just so elusive,” Maloof said. “With the new style of offenses with the spread, he is the perfect fit for all those people. At slot receiver, he can go deep. He can run it at tailback and run between the tackles. The other thing he’s good at is returning punts (with four touchdowns).”
  • #25 Lorenzo Carter, DE: The 6-5, 220-pound junior is up to around 20 early scholarship offers after hearing from Notre Dame and Ohio State within the last week. Carter leads Gwinnett County in sacks with 17. “He comes off the edge as well as anybody we’ve ever had, and he can stop the run,” Norcross coach Keith Maloof said. “It’s unbelievable the athletic ability he has at that position.” Carter is still waiting on an offer from UGA.” Many consider Carter to be better in high school than former Norcross standout Adrian Hubbard, who is one of Alabama’s top defenders.
  • #48 Kevin Mouhon, LB: The 6-2, 210-pound  junior was recently offered by Tennessee.

Why would AK want to play for a nincompoop that doesn’t know to spike the ball or run behind an offensive line comprised of a bunch of private school all stars? He’s going to Bama

Why would AK want to play for a Coach who would throw him under bus if he tweaks his knee? Which absolutely he has done MANY times.

Win BCS Championships or………………………………………………Go to UGA

Not a tough question to answer to make.

How could UGA not extend a scholarship to so many AP All Americans that are from Georgia. Chance Warmack is one in particular. And you need OL players.

That is why you will not win a BCS Championship. 32 years and counting PUPPIES………WOOF WOOOF

And of course………………………Not going to a BCS BOWL GAME.

Kimara is going to UGA and that is exactly what he should do. BAMA has 3 Rivals 100 backs committed in Jones, Tenpenny and Henry. Alvin would likely be moved to receiver if he came to Alabama and he made it clear he wants to play RB. Going to UGA will give him that opportunity and I dont blame him.

I do love how personally people take comments on this blog. Its quite entertaining.

Just Asking? Come up with new material. This has happened to ONE person. The kid was asked to grayshirt to heal from an injury. He turned the offer down went to Kentucky and didnt play. If he cannot break into the line up at UK, how is he going to see the field at Alabama? Maybe he really is not good enough. Maybe it was his knee injury that had him below 100%. Who knows. What I do know is no one’s scholarship was EVER withdrawn because of an injury but feel free to continue posting it if it makes your story better.

Blunt…so I understand this from everyone on this blog, past and present. Saban is going to not only leave BAMA for Texas but for the Cowboys job and now the Cleveland Browns? That is one talented man right there. Will he be keeping the Alabama job as well? Just curious.

You just keep wishing that he is leaving or retiring anytime soon. However if he and Mark Richt left at the same time, who’s record would you rather have? Richt and his 3 SEC championships or Saban’s and his 4 SEC titles and 3 (soon to be 4) national championships?

PS…since you think you are all knowing when it comes to what is certain to happen at UA when Saban does leave, can you please share with me the winning lottery numbers for the upcoming $20M powerball drawing? Thanks!

Please SEC FOOTBALL remind me again how many scholly’s bama has to give. Remember this would be the 4th rb to commit. The NCAA Committee on Infractions released a statement last year calling the University of Alabama-Tuscaloosa the following:

A “serial repeat violator,” with an “abysmal infractions track record” and an “extensive recent history of infractions cases unmatched by any other member institution in the NCAA.”

Bear’s Ghost…That statement by the NCAA was made YEARS AGO, not last year. That was after the text book case they penalized us for. The penalties were enforced during Saban’s time at Alabama but the infractions were done under Shula. Facts and all. Nothing that Saban has done at Alabama has been illegal or against the rules and I am sorry if that fact bothers you. We went through some bad times unders som very bad coaching hires and no BAMA fan will deny that. Seems fans other of team have trouble accepting the fact that Saban is the best in the business and has Alabama on top of college football right now, praying Saban leaves for another job. If you are a UGA fan, all I can say is…32-28!

SECisFootball

Big Dawg…you may be right. Saban may leave (keep hope alive) but its not likely. If he did, we may very well revert back to our time under Dubose, Shula, etc. One thing I can guarantee you is that we wont go 32+ years without winning another national title. Elite teams dont!

SECisFootball

McDawg…We don’t “need” Kamara. It would certainly be a luxary though. We have Yeldon, Fowler, Hart and Drake all back next year in addition to the Jones, Tenpenny and Henry coming in. Henry may or may not play RN in the long run but he will not be on D. He is a guy you need to get the ball to so while he may outgrow the RB spot, he would likely make on heck of a TE or Hback.

Holy Guacamole….whats left? How about his legacy of eventually leaving as the best coach ever in college football. If BAMA wins on Jan 7, that gives him a total of 4 national titles. That’s 2 shy of Bryant. He has said on many occasions that he prefers the college game to the NFL. Plus, why would you leave the best program in CFB to go to one of the worst in the NFL. Especially one that is in Cleveland. Ever been there? If not, I dont recommend it.

@Blackoutanyone: The dude Jai Miller will be 28 years old next month on the 17th and will have to make the team as a walk-on. Miller at 6′ 3″ 200 lbs will try out as WR if he comes to UGA. (consider this a long shot)

UGA back in front, (at the moment) of Bama for Reuben… the sudden appearance of LB Matthew Thomas on the UGA recruiting scene could add a little heat under Reuben’s seat… not room for both at UGA!

Montravius Adams has a Gurl friend who plans on attending UGA (I believe) the daughter of one of his HS coaches…. right now UGA leads over Clemson!

Dawg-Gawn…Agree with you about Kamara. Will be at UGA. Foster i have no read on othe than he wont be at Alabama. Smart visited him last week but there are probably 3-4 schools ahead of us right now. I would guess he ends up at UGA as well. Thomas will end up at Miami. He has too much pressure to stay in town for college. No read on Adams. Jai Miller will be at UA if given the spot to walk on. He is from Alabama and was between BAMA and Stanford when he committed to Stanford and eventually bypassing college for MLB. Dont know much about him other than what the mods on BamaOnLine are reporting.

Holy Guacamole…there is no question about his track record of moving around. However, he is over 60 now and seems pretty content now with the success he has had at BAMA. Plus, his wife is very happy in Tuscaloosa and has no desire to leave. Add to that he still has a child in school at UA, in fact I think both of his kids are students. He has built BAMA into the powerhouse he wanted and has us playing for our 3rd NC in 4 years. Add to that the fact he has another very good recruiting class coming in and I think that gives him plenty of incentive to stay. There are other jobs out there but if it were money, BAMA can match anything anyone else can pay. I think he has 5-7 more years in him as a HC and i think they will be at Alabama.

Don – sometimes if you say if it enough, it will become truth (at least to you) and others will agree. Eventually, he will move on. Gosh, Richt is the dean of SEC coaches at 11 years. Kirby looks to be breathing fine as a DC now… the AD position at Alabama would relieve some of the direct pressure off of Saban while keeping him in charge over everything… the Saban way! Also giving Kirby access to his mentor if needed (training wheels) and would only work for Kirby or maybe another Sabanite.

Yeah, agree on the recruiting, just like the SECCG it was a WAR… would love to see them T it up again… how bout, best out of three? (last year, you guys got a second shot at LSU)
