AJC Super 11 WR flips from Clemson to Florida Gators

AJC Super 11 WR Demarcus Robinson is the third Georgia prospect to de-commit from Clemson (AJC)
AJC Super 11 WR Demarcus Robinson on his switch from Clemson to Florida: “I wanted to play in the SEC.” (AJC)

AJC Super 11 wide receiver Demarcus Robinson switched his commitment from Clemson to Florida on Wednesday.

Robinson is the third 2013 prospect from Georgia to de-commit from Clemson, following the Grayson High School duo of DT Robert Nkemdiche and DB David Kamara (both are undecided).

“I have a chance to play as a freshman, and I wanted to play in the SEC, so I’m a Gator now,” Robinson told the Gainesville Sun’s Zach Abolverdi. “They’ve recruited me harder than anyone else.”

A few months ago, Robinson had described himself as a “soft” commitment to Clemson, but then said he was solid after taking an official visit with the Tigers in early November. The Peach County High School standout expects to enroll early at Florida in January.

Despite the loss of Robinson, Clemson still has four commits from the state – Lassiter WR Ryan Jenkins, Grayson RB-LB Wayne Gallman, Coffee County OL Maverick Morris, and Elbert County RB Tyshon Dye. Clemson are also top contenders for Dooly County DT Montravius Adams and Milton DE Carl Lawson (committed to Auburn).

Dwnsav…..
I thought this site is only a Dawg blog. I am told that all the time…..yet this is a story about a state of Georgia recruit committing to Florida. Amazing.

But Demarcus Robinson is exactly what Driskel, Muschamp, and Joker Phillips and the rest of the Gators need…..and he is joining 4 other top WR recruits……Ahmad Fullwood, Alvin Bailey, Chris Thompson, and Marqui Hawkins (also from Georgia). Florida’s top ranked by ESPN class just got a lot better for sure. I also know that Muschamp and staff have not stopped recruiting Demarcus Walker hard as well. The Gators need one more DT to complete this recruiting class…..and one would complete it. Muschamp is doing a remarkable job of coaching, hiring assistant coaches, and recruiting top atheltes. Go Gators.

……and I also think Georgia is going to close with several big names as well and will have a very highly ranked class….both in numbers and stars. Both Georgia and Florida will remain top tier teams nationally for several years to come…..and the JAX battles are just going to get more intense…….and….I know….Georgia will rule in the series from now on…..I also keep hearing that.

Dumpster, Interesting question in a year in which Georgia is offering scholarships like green stamps. The answer, of course, is planning. I still haven’t seen a credible explanation on why UGA signed so few kids last year and continues to suffer from lack of depth.

With the recruiting classes we have this year; UF and UGA will be dominant for the next few years. The game in Jax will be like when Tebow and Percy went against Stafford and Mareno; tons of NFL talent on the field. What a rivalry!!

Thanks ga gator. This will always be a great rivalry in my eyes. Love the haters on both sides. Glad UF is playing “lights-out” football. Loved how all the “experts” at the beginning of the year, joked about UF being a cupcake, lol. What a bunch of numb-nutz…

some dogs never learn. Brownie never misses an opportunity to tarnish and belittle UGA. They don’t have newspapers where he lives, so he likes to comment on things he knows nothing about. How many times do you explain it to a moron, before you finally giveup??? If they don’t know it by now, they don’t want to know it…

kingdaddy since I married a UGA girl, I go to all the home games and root for them except for in Jax of course. The only thing I hate about the games in Athens is the pregame video seeing the Lindsay Scott run every week! LOL It is interesting how all the experts said the East was weak this year and we have 3 teams in the top 10 of the BCS. In addition Vandy is no longer a pushover so the East was much tougher this year and I suspect with the talent on Tennessee’s roster, all it will take is a good coach to get them back to being competitive again. Nothing like SEC football.

UF has always been popular in South Ga. They recruit better here than UGA at times, so does SC. The Jville games is one of the premire games in the nation every year. You are also right about UT, they will be right in the thick of it soon enough. I lived in Gatlinburg for 20 years and they bleed orange too, lol…

Surprise Surprise.

So hard to believe he “wanted to play in the SEC” after having grown up watching ESPN saying over and over and over and over again…things like “SEC Speed” 1,000x’s or more.

Don’t get me wrong, the SEC has been an outstanding conference for a long, long time…but with the built-in marketing advantage ESPN gives them, they are downright unstopable. Nobody wants to play anywhere else besides the SEC nowadays.

THANKS ESPN!

IMO, FSU, The U, Clemson, GaTech, VaTech, UNC, Pitt, NCSU, Louisville…..make for a strong nucleus rendering the ACC a very formidable conference. Frankly, I don’t see any stronger. Now until they start beating SEC teams, they will continue to be viewed as being inferior. But on paper, the ACC looks good.

Saw this kid play several times and he IS a play maker. He has all the tools. Clemson lost a great prospect and the Gators have picked up a gem. Demarcus should fit in well in Muschamp’s system. Would have loved to see him play 20+ games Between the Hedges but guess now I will only see him 3 or 4 times in Jax. I congratulate Demarcus on his decision and congratulate the UF staff for staying after him. I hope he has a healthy and successful career. Good get, Gator fans.

gators just got a good one. looks like they are trying to sure up that passing game. if they do find a passing game which might not come till after next yr, they will be tough. this freshmen class of wide outs is good and they will have some great games next yr but all freshmen have those freshmen moments so the yr after they could really be solid at that position.

tampa gator: muschamp is doing a hell of a job recruiting especially this yr and once yall get the passing game to go along with that young back and qb yall will be even better. muschamp will always have a solid defense good enough to win a championship just has to get that passing game going and it looks like he is addressing it very well and i am sure yall have some redshirt receivers only the fans know about. my cousin graduated from florida and her husband. she runs a shop down there now. her father and both her step brothers graduated from florida too. so i go down there alot and always have a great time. last game i went to was when yall played lsu at night and both were ranked in top 10 yall had tebow and percy. almost positive yall won the championship that yr. i was right on the fifty about three rows up from the florida bench. you could literally touch the players. her father is a gold gator or something like that. she went to both championship games in football and basketball. she has been to all the sec championships yall have played in too. she is spoiled as hell. at 23 she has been to 4 national championships 2 in football and 2 in bb.

PROMO:

You look at the lineup of teams in the ACC and they SHOULD be a really good cenference! They were good before expansion started, and look who they’ve added…

FSU
Miami
Virginia Tech
Boston College

All were schools that had good programs when they were added. Louisville and Pitt don’t excite me much, but who knows, maybe they’ll blossom in the ACC.

If you want to give Florida as example why you don’t, go ahead. but that is one damn game.
Yea you played S.C. but you got ran out of the damn stadium. So you don’t count those other crappy teams on the schedule? Please…. you got that record off the Ky’s, Vandy’s and Mississippi’s, Buffalo’s. Mo.s and Ga Southern’s of the world. Shame on you for being proud of that sissy schedule. Should be a good conference, maybe, but the ACC STINKS. You forgot Syracuse, that is a program which may come in and win the ACC. Marrone is building while the other schools you named – VaTech, GT, FSU, Miami – are on the slide, while UNC NC State Wake BC UVa, are tanking. Syracuse, Louisville, Pitt may be the three best teams, Clempson will always be a wannabe that can’t be.

SEC just gets stronger and stronger.
