WR Ja’Quay Williams picks Texas A&M over UGA (UPDATED)

For the second year in a row, UGA just missed out on Ja’Quay Williams.

The former Sandy Creek High School standout committed to Texas A&M over UGA and South Carolina on Sunday night.

Williams is a 6-foot-3, 200-pound wide receiver who signed with Auburn over UGA last year but did not meet NCAA entrance requirements. Williams is attending prep school this semester and hopes to enroll at Texas A&M in January.

“I would like to thank all the schools which have been in contact with me, and I would like to thank coach (Chip Walker) at Sandy Creek …,” Williams said in a statement. “The last 12 months have seen many ups and downs and, at least, it came down to Georgia, Auburn, South Carolina and Texas A&M I have great respect for all of these programs and their coaching staffs, to include Auburn, which I had been committed to for so long. Auburn is a special place.

“However, after looking at everything and taking my time to evaluate for now and into the future, Coach (Kevin Sumlin), his staff and the A&M program is where I need to be and where I am now committed 110 percent. I indicated so tonight! I have officially committed to Texas A&M.”

Obviously, working against UGA for Williams was the appeal to play with the leading contender for the Heisman Trophy, Texas A&M redshirt freshman QB Johnny Manziel, over the next two seasons.

Williams took official visits to Texas A&M, UGA and South Carolina over the last three weeks. He officially de-committed from Auburn last Sunday because the Tigers are without a coach.

His choice of Texas A&M ends a little bit of recruiting momentum for UGA. The Bulldogs have 30 commits for 2013, including at least five who will get a look at wide receiver. However, two-time UGA commit Tramel Terry will decide between the Bulldogs and Clemson on Friday, and there are rumors that another UGA commit (Uriah LeMay) may be looking around.

UPDATE: Terry confirmed that he is sticking with UGA on Sunday night. Terry told Scout.com’s Chad Simmons that “I just called everything off with Clemson.”

Terry is not deciding between UGA and Clemson on Friday. He is having a signing-day ceremony celebrating his letter of intent going to UGA.

Where are you getting your sources? Tramel Terry put on his OWN twitter that he is signing with UGA and enrolling early. He is already decided

Agreed with nobody… Where are you getting this information about Terry? He said on his own twitter that your story about him wavering from yesterday was completely false. As Hutch said- the ceremony Friday wasn’t to announce his decision about Clemson/UGA. Terry said it was because he is graduating early and won’t have the usual signing day ceremony and that he will indeed be going to UGA next semester. Shaq also reaffirmed his commitment to UGA on twitter and to Coach Richt tonight, just so you know.

@ncdawg, thanks for your comment. I guess Tramel Terry may want to communicate a little better with his high school coach, because it was his coach who said he was wavering. And it was reported by Palmetto Sports’ Phil Kornblut …

Good luck to Williams….but UGA got the better news in hearing the re-confirmed committment of Terry.

Terry is electric and though SC has not been involved in the recent 2-horse race of UGA and Clemson for Terry….Spurrier wanted Terry more than any other in-state kid.

Terry going to UGA ended SC’s run of signing the top in-state recruit since AJ Green left the palmetto state in ‘08.

Hopefully Terry will work out as well as AJ did… except for Jerseygate of course.

Uriah LeMay will definitely be going to whichever school his brother transfers to next month.

I hate that it didn’t work out for Christian LeMay, but when you can’t beat out a walk-on QB on the depth chart, you gotta go.

Good luck Ja’Quay. TX a&m don’t need to recruit the state of ga because tx has more talent. I guess Ja’Quay feel more comfortable with their coaching staff, What’s on Montravius Adam’s mind?

Hate losing this guy. The kid from Goose Ck. SC is a must now. Would like to see Dawgs add 1 or 2 OL with the last 5 or 6 spots…….But don’t count out 2-3 more flips when AU & Tenn fill those jobs. First thing those new coach’s will do is look at our commit list and offer everyone of them.

worried about our bowl game. After that game Saturday, Showing up for leftovers is tough. Throw in the fact that 7 or 8 of our Defense will be drafted, most in the first two rounds and millions at stake in contracts, don’t look for the ole college try come game day. Might as well wear green no contact jerseys.

JB, yes we have a chance at top5 finish if they win the bowl game. But you are correct playing to not get hurt might give Nebraska the edge. Of course you are more likely to get hurt holding back than playing all out.

I would have thought that the Alabama game taught UGA and its fans one hard lesson; WR’s do not matter, Offensive Linemen matter. That game was won by the Alabama Offensive Line. The Alabama offense scored 4 touchdowns and one field goal on UGA. The UGA offense scored 3 touchdowns on Alabama.

Looking at this years UGA recruiting on Scout.com one sees 3 OL commits, one 4 star and two 3 star recruits. That’s it!

I know this is sour grapes sounding and it would of made little difference in the outcome since we couldn’t stop the run, but after reading the moaning from some that Bama got 1 flag thrown on them, I looked at the OL play on the replay and the Bama center ” appeared” to grab Jenkins several times. But, I thought the officials did let them play without taking the game away.

Tunsil and Outlaw is a good possibility i think Crowder goes to Clemson IMO i agree we need O-line and we need some more defence to stop the run .

Collegeball fan….you are correct. We are always fighting numbers and talent on the OL. 3 is correct so far. Richt MIGHT get one more, but look for more TE’s & WR to fill class. Dawgs normally have More WR/TE on campus than OL.

Would like to see tackling emphasized with the next group of Georgia defenders vs sack counts. I always felt the goal of our D was to get to the QB with this group. That works against lightweights. Not against powerful running teams. Interesting they adjusted to running right at us……And we didn’t…. oe couldn’t adjust. Better practice on it for the bowl. Nebraska won’t throw 10 passes.

Spike the ball Damnit. That was hilarious! There’s not a coach in America, that doesn’t kill the clock with 15 seconds left! EXCEPT RICHT AND BOOBOO! It would have given you three, maybe for shots! Hell, Richt says he wishes Conley had dropped the pass. That would be the equivalent of spiking the ball, wouldn’t it??? The ball hits the groung, thus stopping the clock? He’s asking the kid to do what he and Booboo should have done the play before! Those two need to take it on the road! Like Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis.Damn 33 years!

No loss here with jay quay. Much rather have Terry. jay qwuan sounds like he’s got some serious issues. Good for u going with Manziel. Does anyone who isn’t a die hard A&M fan know even 1 of their WRs? Right, because he is a scrambler. chances better you’ll be loading UPS trucks before playing in the NFL with him as your QB.

One more thing. On behalf of Crimson Tiders everywhere, thank you so much for our left guard, CHANCE WARMACK.This guy is arguably the BEST offensive guard in America! He’s projected to be one of the top ten players selected in this year’s draft, which is unheard of for an offensive lineman! AND GET THIS. He played at the same high school as noted tight end prospect. Cam Newton. Atlanta Westlake. And here’s the funniest part. Guess who his positon coach was at Westlake? RESTY BEADLES, who was an offensive lineman at UGA!!!! YOU CAN’T MAKE THIS STUFF UP! Do it Richt. Do it Booboo. And do it DAWGS! I’m certain Beadles contacted UGA about the kid, and had to wonder where the hell y’all were. Finally I’m sure he said “To hell with Geargia, Let him go to Bama.” CHANCE IS A FOUR YEAR STARTER FOR THE TIDE, AND WILL SECURE THREE!, COUNT ‘EM DAWG FANS, THREE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHP RINGS! WR’s are jockeying around to make sure that they aren’t among too many recruits. They want to start as a freshman with no competition.
Lemay is obviously a bust at QB for GA. Maybe that year off from high school football left him too much time to do what he got suspended for?
At least Hutson will be ready to go next year if Murray leaves. Cannot rely on a walkon.

Warmack, in FOUR YEARS, will accumulate THREE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP RINGS. THAT”S TWO MORE THAN Y’ALL HAVE IN 32 YEARS. I mean 33 years. My bad. Damn, I wonder if he’s questions his decision to sign with BAMA or regrets that y’all didn’t come after him? Four years from now, ANTHONY JENNINGS will be down at LSU thinking the same thing Warmack is thinking today, “THANK GOD THOSE IDIOTS CHOSE NOT TO OFFER!” Otherwise I might have made the biggest mistake of my life and signed with’em.” Jennings is gonna make you pay.
