Will ex-UGA WR recuit Ky Priester get another look from the Bulldogs?

Every year, both UGA and Georgia Tech extend a last-minute scholarship offer to an in-state kid after another target goes elsewhere.

Kyrin Priester, who had a breakout senior season and is now considered by some to be the state’s top prospect at wide receiver, is a name to keep an eye on.

WR Kyrin Priester of Brookwood HS is one of the state's most underrated 2013 prospect (AJC)

WR Kyrin Priester of Brookwood HS is one of the state's most underrated 2013 prospects (AJC)

The 6-foot-2, 185-pound speedster from Brookwood High School was actually committed to UGA for a few months, re-opened his recruiting, and is now pledged to NC State. However, that commitment is kind of shaky after NC State fired coach Tom O’Brien.

“I was kind of upset about it,” Preister told the AJC. “But I’m not going to do anything until I find out if my position coach gets fired. If he gets fired, then I’m not going to NC State.”

Priester quickly picked up an offer from Mississippi State on Monday and has many other colleges wanting to evaluate his senior highlight film, which should be finished within the next week or so.

Now what about UGA and Priester? He committed to the Bulldogs shortly after transferring from the Orlando area to Brookwood High School last year. A few months later, he decided to open things back up. There were rumors that UGA wasn’t keeping in contact as much as Priester would’ve liked, but he simply says, “I just committed too early. It’s a big decision, and I wanted to make sure I was making the right one.”

UGA and Priester have kept in touch, and some of it has to do with one of his Brookwood buddy, LB Shaun McGee, being committed to UGA. Priester quietly made unofficial visits to UGA for both the Georgia Tech and Georgia Southern games.

“I’ve been talking to the coaches a little bit,” Priester said. “But you know, they’ve got other wide receivers committed. I’m pretty much waiting to see what (UGA wide receivers coach Tony Ball) tells me … you know, if a spot opens up. But yes, we’ve been talking.”

UGA could go after Priester again if it misses on former Sandy Creek High School WR Ja’Quay Williams, who made an official visit with the Bulldogs last weekend. More likely, UGA would talk to Priester if WR commit Tramel Terry flips to Clemson.

Who else in Priester interested in? “I like the SEC right now,” he said. “I like LSU, I like Florida, and I like Georgia.”

My take: I think the scouts are going to love what they see with Priester’s film. He has a jaw-droppping combination of size and speed, and along with the “it” factor to make big plays – whether it was at wide receiver or defensive back for Brookwood. You’ll love his tape: He had tremendous body control, and he runs with a fluid motion that sort of makes everybody else looks like awkward or like they are moving in slow motion. He was one of the state’s five best overall high school players I saw this season.

The kid has good size for a WR and has decent speed, but “jawbreaking” is pure hyperbole.

I would not waste 5 seconds on Priester unless he contacted me or a member of my staff several times. He flat out quit on Georgia during the recruiting process in order to start as a freshman without first putting in the work. Then he chose NC State to add insult to injury. I don’t blame him for looking out for himself, now Georgia must look out for themselves because Priester put himself in the position of being a beggar rather than a chooser.

Well, of course, there are about 30 schools who would love to have him, but my comments are specific to Georgia and the avoidance of front-runners.

Not a dog fan, but if I were UGA I would look elsewhere. By choosing NC State, this kid shows he would rather go play in obscurity in some 3rd tier league, on a 3rd tier team, rather than in the national spotlight. NC State is never even on TV, I wouldn’t have even known who the coach is and I couldn’t come close to telling you their record. Nothing against him, some people do not like the pressure (I wouldn’t). Maybe a big time program is not right for him.

I think I would just pass on the young man. I like it when the schools in our state go for the kids that truly want to be DAWGS and Bees and if they are going to keep changing their minds, it makes it that much harder to recruit for your team for the coaches. UGA isn’t hurting by any means for WR’s so let the young man find a home someplace else, and let UGA move on with who we already have in his position.
It might be a little different if it came to a few of the big uglies UGA could use, but at a position where w are in good shape right now, we are better off to pass on this young man.

What are this kids numbers? The article says he had a breakout senior season, but no where does it mention his stats. Why not if they are so good. I would think that would be one of the first things you would put into an article about how good of a catch this kid is supposed to be?

UGA's needs

November 29th, 2012

UGA needs to sign in February, about 5 or 6 O linemen.

UGA needs to do this every year.

Reality for UGA is that every year, injuries, quitting, or such, always befall them and as a result, UGA goes into the season with 7 or 8 linemen and two are “not ready” .j

UGA needs linemen and the SEC CG will expose this ugly reality.

These guys constantly sit right under UGA’s nose! It’s not just Priester. It’s most prevelant in offensive linemen. A big difference is Richt/Bobo DON’T EVEN OFFER! James Carpenter, an All-American Left tackle for us and an NFL 1st round draft pick, is from Hepzibah Ga., Chance Warmack, the top rated offensive guard in America, and arguably the best who ever played for Bama, is from Atlanta. And the thing is, these guys don’t commit to N.C.State. They end up with the very teams Richt and Bobo need to beat to win a conference title! Rokevious Watkins, an offensive tackle from Atlanta, was very instrumental in South Carolina’s win over you last year. And we wouldn’t trade Brandon Greene, a young offensive tackle from Cedar Grove for anyone, including your next great hope, Theus. And this year Richt and Bobo are at their absolute worst. Standing by while Norcross OG Max Garcia, Colquitt’s OG Octavious Jackson, and mammouth OT Trenton Brown, from Albany, commit to Will Muschamp and the Gators! As if the guy needs any more help.

He probably won’t get an offer unless we lose one of the kids we have committed or miss on JW, but personally, I would wish him good luck at NC State or where ever he decides to grace with his signature. He had a spot with us and threw it away so…see ya.

NC State…what a joke. They suck 9 out of every 10 seasons and just fired their HBC and this kid jumped ship from an SEC/BCSNCG contender on the rise?

Whatever, kid. Like I said; good luck to ya.

Are you aware Georgia recruited Juwann James, Garcia, Trenton Brown, Devine, and Alexander?

Your still seem unaware of how recruiting works- let me sum it up this way- there has to be an offer, and an acceptance. Georgia offered several of those guys, they chose not to accept.

Outlaw is still a UGA possibility if we miss on Tunsil and Crowder.

Hey tide-roll…better watch your a$$…if Georgia beats your boys Saturday, then goes on to win the NC, these kids will be running all over themselves to go to Athens. It’s the winning, stupid, and right now Saban and Alabama are holding most of the cards. But just as ‘the worm turned’ against you guys a while back, ‘what goes around, comes around’, and with it your comeuppance. And it’ll be glorious to behold…it probably won’t shut you up, that’ll take a little longer, but it will make you look as foolish as when you cheered on your tree-poisoner or when your guy let a Flor-Bama Ho have his company credit card.

Tide Roll’s Tutor,

Don’t even waste your breath with this guy. He definitley doesn’t understand how recruiting works and he loves to take shots at Georgia. He expects us to sign every player in Ga Highschool Football. He’s bashing us for not getting this guy but the article clearly states that he was committed to UGA at one point. That’s why I think he’s a Tech fan in disguise. What Alabama fan hates Georgia so much that he continually rants the same ridiculous rant day in and day out? We never even play Bama.

Now he’s claiming that “After all, a National Title ain’t that big a deal anymore.” That’s funny because every day he’s on here ranting about how long it’s been. Now he’s laying the foundation just in case we do win the whole thing so that he can keep bashing Georgia after we do it. He won’t be able to use the “32 years” thing anymore so if we win he’ll switch over to “It’s not a big deal.” You can tell he’s getting worried. He’s bitter and dilusional. Easily the biggest moron on any blog I’ve seen. Much bigger than GTBob. Right on par with Thomas Brown only his posts are much smaller. Thomas Brown likes to write short storie on here. I’m convinced he’s a bitter Tech fan. I havn’t seen him on here all week. He’s had his tail tucked between his legs after that beat down we gave Tech on Saturday. Such a Loser.

“All this coming from a Tech fan living vicariously through Bama.”

Clearly a Tech fan that lives in the Atlanta area that has jumped on the Bama band wagon. Why else would an Alabama fan be so bitter towards UGA. We rarely even play them. That’s why you haven’t seen him on here all week. He’s been pouting about the beatdown that we gave Tech on Staurday.

I love how he says “After all, a National Title ain’t that big a deal anymore.” See what he’s doing there? He’s already setting it up. If we win the whole thing then he won’t be able to rant about the 32 years thing any more. He’s going to need a new MO. He’s starting to get worried about it and he’s already laying the ground work for it. Such is the life of a perpetual LOSER. He’s got to be the biggest MORON on here. He’s like Thomas Brown with MUCH shorter posts.

Tide Roll, What’s your point? Are you just giving people an sample f the talent that comes out of Georgia? We offered them and that little loud mouth back up Kenyon Drake, but they chose to come running to a school and state that you so love, and that couldn’t digest the thought of African Americans less than 50 years ago.Now as time has past, I know people want to have selective and forgettable memories, but dude please stop promoting UA as if it’s a God sent school doing anything different. Before Nick Saban came along, ya’ll last great Coach was Gene Stallings when he won in 1992.That whole State lies it’s heart on the “Bear”, who’s been gone now for a long time. Remember how you fans hated Nick Saban as LSU ran rings around you? Remember Mike DuBose, Mike Shula, and the funniest one of all(who never coached a game) Mike(stripper man)Price? Oh boy that worked out well didn’t it Roll Tide? Georgia may have come up short in the NC Picture, but Auburn and Alabama wouldn’t be jack without Georgia ball players. Hold on to the sell outs that run to there masters, but realize this, they will start coming home if we win Saturday. The tides biggest fear won’t be on the field, but in the recruiting wars if we win.the BCSNC. We all know that champions love playing for champions. Tide Roll when you get rolled, the death rate in your state is gonna be way up. Dang, the thought of you losing two in a season is just unthinkable isn’t it. It will happen, and then we’ll shut Spurrier up early next season, and God will have the South at peace again.

Hell, y’all are the only school in America that could make NFL Hall of Famer Terretll Davis a 6th round draft pick! Spurrier’s right.
