Nkemdiche on Ole Miss: “To people that do think I am a lock … I will just say you never know”

Robert Nkemdiche (No. 1) and older brother Denzel

The nation’s undisputed No. 1 prospect, Robert Nkemdiche, did only his second interview since de-committing from Clemson a few weeks ago. He talked to Dawg Nation’s Kipp Adams.

Probably the most interesting thing was Nkemdiche claiming it wasn’t a done deal that he will commit to Ole Miss, where his brother plays.

Nkemdiche prediction?

“To people that do think I am a lock to Ole Miss, I will just say you never know,” Nkemdiche said. “I could end up falling in love with any other school. If schools give up, they give up, but you never know if I take a visit and fall in love. It could happen.”

What about Ole Miss linebacker Denzel Nkemdiche telling reporters after last Saturday’s game that his baby brother will commit in two weeks? Robert declined to confirm or deny it.

“I do not know about that,” Nkemdiche said. “I will have to see. If I do make my decision, I will probably hold an announcement. I am not going to say I will or if I won’t. I am still iffy-iffy. If I do commit, I think I will still take my official visits.”

Nkemdiche also told the website that he hasn’t talked to Clemson since de-committing and if he visits other schools than heavy favorite Ole Miss, it may be LSU and Oregon.

Like I was saying do you really want to play for Ole Miss?? I know you brother plays there but he 1st choice was UGA but we failed to grab him as a last minute qualifier. Do not go to Ole Miss for 3 or 4 years and lose more games than you will when. Come compete for a National Championship or atleast have a shot at it anyway. You are a winner and I know you like to win. Plus Ole Miss has to be the biggest racist school in the Nation! Did you see 30 for 30 on the history of that school????? Did you see after Obama was re elected that did everyting but burn a cross on the that campus. They only accept the black athlete they really dont want us on that campus. Something to really think about. I am sure your brother would not be there if it wasnt for his last minute qualifying and him wanting to go to a D1 school in the SEC.

It disappoints me to see so many elite players leave the state of ga. Those guys could build a dynasty @uga. What does the other schools have that uga doesn’t? I’m not angry just disappointed.

Robert is Ole MIss all day. He’s talking about taking an offical visit to Oregon? That funny. This kid should come to UGA and make the best of his 3 years. A couple if 10 win seasons, maybe a SEC championship apperance or 2, and compete for a National.

If the Parents of the kids that are intrested in going to Ole Miss do they research on that school they will find that school’s nasty history! The way blacks were treated in that community around the school. We were not even allowed to attend that school. I swear the Willie Lynch theory coming into play every year another athlete committs there. They held a rally on the campus after Obama was re elected. WTH??? Its 2012 and they held a rally. I would cut short of saying a Klan rally because their was no white sheets, burning crosses and masks involved. Instead the community and school were plain face! They didnt want blacks then and black atheletes should not go there now!! Watch the 30 for 30 on that school ROBERT. Tell your African mother and dad to watch that special on ESPN also

Hahaha! That’s classic. “Lose more games than you will when” is the best thing I have read in awhile. No wonder the state grad rate is somewhere around 67%. Robert, do whatever it is you want to do. I’m sure you are smart enough to not let people like DBoy influence your decision.

Dboy, I’m pretty sure that the 30 for 30 took place the year Ole Miss won the national championship about 52 years ago. That logic would rule out every school in the SEC. Besides the program is on the rise and it is the most beatiful campus in the SEC and a lot of the scenary being mobile. Plus compete for a NC at Georgia. Georgia has been in the discussion 2 times since 1983. If it were about a NC then he should go to some other “racist” school like Alabama, Florida or LSU. I think you should visit the campus sometime, because the school is 16% black, elected a black homecoming queen this year and the student body president is black.

I belive Hugh Freeze has something brewing down in Oxford. He’s got a lot of kids thinking Ole Miss, especially since they can offer immediate playing time that other schools can’t. Imagine CJ Johnson on one side and Robert on the other. Thats a excellent pair of bookends, just look what uscjr has done with one. Ole Miss may be a thorn in the side for many teams in the upcoming years. GO DAWGS!

Walker the texas ranger,
They are trying to put on and make it seem like something its not. That school as pulled the wool over your eyes and other people like you. Make no mistake about it they still are a heavy racist school and state homie. I travel a lot and I have been there and I hate the way blacks are still being treated. You can ignore it if you want. Ole Miss can try to cover up their past but it’s still there. I can care less how the campus looks. There are other pretty campuses in the nation. UGA has been in the NC discuss way more than 2 times since 83. How about in Mark Richts era? Do your research. All the D1 schools are majority white thats why they are D1 with all the money I am not ignorate to that fact but we know all the history of the state of Miss and the south in general but Miss still lives in the slave era so to speak. Other schools were not on 30 for 30 being put on blast

@Walker – don’t worry, I definitely remember the dark days that are not so far removed. I do believe with the coaches we have (same can be said for Ole Miss I suppose), we are on the rise. However, with Saban in the West, it will be harder for Ole Miss to break through no matter who is coaching out there. Richt appears to be in a waiting game with Spurrier until he can run the table in the East. Muschamp is coming on strong, but I think Mark Richt will continue to do everything he can to get some sort of streak going against Florida.

The point of my post was mainly that I don’t think Robert would be a good fit at Georgia since there has definitely been more of an emphasis on TEAM. This kid (mainly fueled by the media) appears to be an ego maniac. Can’t wait until Saturday. Go Dawgs!

@flo-ri-da. No I am not racist Ole Miss and the majority of their students are! That school really dissapointed me with there rally on campus after our President was re elected. It open my eyes as well as it should have open others but others choose to ignore it and keep them closed. Then the 30 for 30 on ESPN just backs up and confirmed what they did. They should be embarrassed but their not because their racism is glowing. So Flo-Ri-Da thats why racism is the topic because Ole Miss is the topic..Get it??

Tony – the State of Georgia is more cosmopolitan than other southern states. The kids here seem to have more wanderlust than some other southern states ( exception being Florida ). There are some kids ( see Jarvis Jones ) that just want to go somewhere else to get a fresh start. In the end we still keep a bunch of our talent here. Some guys will leave the state no matter what because they want out. You know…the grass is greener.

I’m not trying to jump into the race argument ensuing on here, but I do want to point out that Ole Miss has an enrollment of over 16,000 students and the rally after Obama was re-elected was about 400. 2.5% of the student population (400 is still a bad number) should not label the entire university. Yes, the history is bad at Ole Miss, but there has been progress.

Matter of fact I love all people but I will not love or respect people that do not respect my culture or ethnicity.. So to he!! with Ole Miss and their campus and the state of Mississippi. I am not talking to all of the people that are from that state just the ones that hate on other people for skin color!! It is something that is instilled in them since birth from their parents and parents parents and so on and so forth. It will be that way till the end of time..Dont hate me because I am bring this up to the light. Hate the ones who implanted that mentalitly some years ago before we was all born!

@dawgfan…1 student is to many!!! I dont care how many kids are enrolled in that school. No excuse..The police should have broken that rally up or it should have been a riot on that campus before 400 was allowed to do something like that. This is 2012 and racism is still prevelant as the students who were not even born during the slave era was protesting. Protesting what??? Exactly…I know some black kids that go to that school who felt helpless to say anything about it in fear of them getting reprimended or arrested just like back in the day. It was a sad sight to see and I am so glad I dont live in that crappy State.

Say what you want dboy but the fact that the students elected a homecoming queen and class president says all i need to know about the school. If the school were trying to hold blacks down, then they would have never “fixed” these elections. All the schools in the south have a history and they could have done a 30 for 30 on each of them. They are no different. They even made reference to it at Alabama in Forest Gump. Almost identical situation. Go check out the some other school acroos the country, inclding the North. Ole Miss is 16% black, compared to University of Michigan 8%, University of Ill. 7.5%, Indiana 4%, Texas 3.6%,

walker, texas ranger,
I am not into conviencing people or changing people minds. I just put the facts out there and let people decided for themselves. I am no politician so if electing a black homecoming queen and class president is all you need to convence you that they are now a HBCU then so be it…Those election are for 1 year out of how many years that school has been in existance?? I never said they were trying to hold black down. You people on blogs take what others type and spin it how you want. I said that school has a nasty history that it cant escape and it showed its ugly face again in 2012. My kids surely will not attend a school like that. If you gonna be racist you should not let it show to the general public. Show me another 30 for 30 where they highlighted the amount of rascism on another campus and I will show you a flying turtle! I am not saying other schools were not racist but ESPN thought it was a big enough story to highlight it so that tells me how bad it really was back then not that I needed a reminder. If you took history in high school you know about the south and Miss in particular. Why do you think so many blacks migrated to Chicago!? We not going to get into the state of Ala. Same thing I agree

So back to Nkemdiche… If he wants his commitment to be taken seriously he needs to take his OVs before committing. If he’s truly the player everyone thinks he is, he will have a scholarship waiting on him wherever. IMO he needs to show humility, take his OVs, then commit to somewhere and stick to it rather than continuing to throw gasoline on this media fire.

Fact: Ole Miss elected a FAT Black homecoming queen as a joke. I am all too familiar with under-handed white supremist humor. And the student body president? Well, have you sen his girlfriend? That’s why he was accepted, I mean elected, to that position. I have immediate family on sports scholarships both at Ole Miss and Alcorn State. However, this is a sports blog, and lets just keep it that way. If Nkemdiche chooses Ole Miss, it’s a business decision from both sides: I play football, get a free education, and get ready for the NFL and Ole Miss can sell hope and optimism. They both get paid and each can go about their merry way.

DBoy I really feel bad if you had a bad expereice in the past that led you down this road of negativity towards Ole Miss. However there are to many positives about a place like Ole Miss that outweigh the negatives. Sure it’s history is not perfect, but what school in the south can boast a history without a blemish? As a southerner you understand your history. No, you do not have to accept it but you do acknowledge it and its influences on today. I personally am proud to be a southerner because of the many great things the south has to offer and I tend to focus on that. Ole Miss is a school that is ground zero for southern culture, positive and negative. Depending on what you want to focus on will determine what light you see the university in.

My first impression is that most of the people on this board have never been to Ole Miss and just restate what they see on TV. I was a student at Ole Miss from 2004-2008 and I’m an active alum now, attending multiple games this year. First of all, this “rally” that the news reported was few students from a Freshman dorm looking for attention, and a bunch of students just gathered around and watched them. There weren’t 400 students chanting and rallying. Secondly, when I was back there, almost every person associated with Ole Miss is pissed off at these fools. It does not even come close to representing the student body in 2012. In fact, as a response to these few freshman fools, hundreds of students gathered the next day to protest against their behavior. Sure there are a couple knuckle heads at Ole Miss, but many schools have them. Just because it’s Mississippi, people make a much bigger deal of it. Quit labeling our school and saying we should be punished forever because of the past. There’s at least some racist people at every university, including UGA. Every recruit that visits says that it’s not what other people told them it would be. Unfortunately, people are motivated by recruiting and will use that as a tactic to keep players from visiting. I’m from Atlanta too, so don’t try to label me as some Mississippi boy who has blinders on. There is an effort by the media to keep kicking us down, and the perception is not reality. Even Stephen A Smith said that there were similar events like this at other schools that just weren’t reported because they’re not Ole MIss. It’s not fair. Oxford is not dangerous and loves its student athletes. Don’t make an opinion unless you’ve spent a good amount of time in Oxford in the last decade.

Im actually intrigued by his probably choosing Ole Miss.

Mississippi has the biggest disparity of rich to poor in the nation. Ole Miss is decidedly on the upper end of the income scale. The women are beautiful. The Grove is one of the best tailgaiting experiences in all of sports much less college football.

The football has almost never been very good. Even when they had good talent. I’d be intrigued to see if he could make the difference on defense there that say Jadaveon Clowney has at USC.

I personally don’t care where he goes, though I wonder why a guy that is this good on a team with so much talent around them could fail to do anything in the Georgia High School playoffs. Lack focus much?
