UGA’s recruiting prophet … predicts another commit for Bulldogs (UPDATED)

UGA’s recruiting prophet has spoken.

Longtime UGA safety commit Tray Matthews, who predicted a recruit committing to the Bulldogs on Twitter on Tuesday, had another message for his followers on late Wednesday night:

“Another commit coming soon ladies & gentlemen”

When Matthews speaks, people listen. And commits commit – to UGA.

Matthews is a true UGA recruiting insider. He has been pledged to the Bulldogs since two summers ago, communicates with Mark Richt and staff on a regular basis, and chitchats with recruits all the time.

Last Tuesday’s prophecy turned out to be Brendan Langley, the cornerback from Kell High School who flipped from South Carolina to UGA.

Who could the next one be? Matthews’ tweet is cryptic, not revealing who or when.

Tray's prophecy?

The one that would floor UGA fans would be 4-star LB Reuben Foster, who is committed to Auburn but still flirting with the Bulldogs. As has been well-documented in countless stories, Matthews and Foster are close friends. There are rumors that Foster may go to Matthews to UGA for the Georgia Tech game – which would be a pretty big deal if that happened because Auburn plays Alabama on the same day. Foster is the celebrity type of recruit — such as a Montravius Adams, Laremy Tunsil or Robert Nkemdiche – that would rubberstamp this year’s UGA class as a rather good one.

Then there’s Kennar Johnson, the defensive back from Mississippi’s Gulf Coast junior college who will announce his college decision after he returns from this weekend’s official visit to UGA, according to UGASports.com’s Jake Rowe. Johnson told the website that South Florida, Ole Miss and UGA are his top three. But how well does Matthews know Johnson? They both play in the defensive secondary.

Tray "The Prophet" Matthews (AJC)

Tray "The Prophet" Matthews (AJC)

What about Ja’Quay Williams? He’s also committed to Auburn. And like with Reuben Foster, landing Williams would be a coup for UGA. He was the state’s No. 1 prospect at WR last year and is better than any of the wide receivers in this year’s crop. Williams took an official visit to Texas A&M last week. He’s touring UGA this weekend on an official visit. Florida and Oklahoma State are also in the picture. The connection between Williams and Matthews is that they played at nearby high schools.

And this has what to do about UGA recruiting. I guess you must be one of the 5 out of 6, that is unemployed then. Way beyond irrelevant.

Not sure we want Foster. Yes he has talent, but (and there always is one) he comes across as a “me” kinda of individual. I’m sure he can come up with something to cover up that AU tat’ if he does flip.

The ones I’m hoping for are (in no particular order) Williams, Adams, Tunsil, Johnson and Kamara or Jones….

We are in good shape in the LB department. I think O’Neal and Kimbrough could be special and McGee is very good also.

I say we keep what we have and avoid any potential drama.

Reuben,
You don’t need to remove the tattoo if you come to UGa. Just circle the tattoo and put a slash through it!!! You could do the same with a FL logo on your other arm, a SC logo on your right leg, a TN logo on your left leg, and a GT logo on your…….well, pick a cheek (and I don’t mean on your face)!!!

@Ikmantsk
Rankin and Carter are also great LB recruits so we are loaded at that position.
Does anyone know the status of the OLB (Matthews) out of Miami who is ranked #1 in his position by Rivals. He is a 5-star recruit and has UGa listed as one of his favorites. I never see his name mentioned, but we are on his leader board.

you are correct about Rankin and Carter. I could see all of these guys getting time next year. With Jordan Jenkins playing like is now, and Herrera, Wilson and Vasser coming back, If just one or two of these guys steps up we would be in great shape.

I still believe Harvey-Clemons could move to LB if he can add some weight.

Foster would be wise to go elsewhere. The NCAA announced investigation will send Auburn on probation for the fifth time. Like Charles Barkley tweeted, it’s amazing they’re paying players and still losing to Georgia by more than 5 touchdowns the past 2 years.

Auburn is a HORRIBLE TEAM. Might have an entirely new coaching staff next season. Auburn is a sinking ship and it’s not in their best interest to play for Auburn. I can’t imagine any top player wanting to go to Auburn for the next several years. Their program is sinking. Did Auburn win an SEC game in 2012?

UGA has as many guys playing in the NFL as anyone in the country, and UGA is higher than it’s been in 30 years. No brainer to switch to UGA, but better hurry, only a few spots left, those that waver will be left on loser teams like Auburn and coached by losing coaches.

Look at how Grantham has done with guys like Jarvis Jones and Foster has to realize how good he could be at UGA, Auburn doesn’t have linebackers getting drafted the first round by the NFL like UGA does in guys like Houston & Jones & Ogletree.

Greyshirt_ne_1?

I don’t think Kennar’s offer is commitable seeing we only have 4-6 spots left. Those would go to Foster, Tunsil, Adams, Johnson, Kamara and Williams. Man what a class!

It’s very possible Christian Lemay could transfer after this season and I think his brother decommits if that happens. Right now, Christian is no better than #4 on the depth chart and Ramsey isn’t even there yet. Ja’Quay could be headed to Athens and we will still have room for all of the other big targets.

Ed Ashoff, SEC blogger on ESPN, says Auburn coaches are beinbg investigated. This program could be in big recruiting sanctions trouble soon.

It’s odd when top players keep committing to 0-7 in SEC Auburn, very, very fishy.

I know UGA has plenty of scholarships available for next year but how many people are they signing? Doesn”t the SEC have a limit of 25 for one year?

There’s a reason Auburn’s been down these past couple of seasons…with all the crap that came down with Cammy Newton and that thug of a D-lineman…and Trooper of course…it was obvious that ‘the heat was on’, as they say…and Lord they know about that – don’t they, casino-guy? Point being they had to lay low with the pay-for-play…and this is what happens…see? Also, if the Foster kid comes – he’s the one with the AU tatoo I think – let me suggest that they offer him some advice to live by. Namely, get used to it son, no matter how old or young you are there will be times when you do something that doesn’t turn out well, and somebody will ask, ‘What were you thinking?’…and your answer, that always works is, ‘It seemed like a good idea at the time.’

Paul in NH, we can sign 25 players for2013, plus we can enroll several in January that will count as 2012 scholarships since we signed such a small class last year.

PH, yes the SEC has a number, but it is 28. The reason UGA can sign more than that is last year we only signed 17. The kids who enter in Jan. can count towards the 2012 class, or 8 of them can. So UGA is signing 8 that will count towards the 2012 class and the other 26-28 will count to the 2013 class. This season we only have 68-70 scholarshipped and that is how we can sign such a large class.

If we get another recruit to commit in the next few day to be honest it really doesn’t matter who it is at this point in the recruiting battles with other schools. Everybody left on Georgia’s priority list are great high school players or Junior College players. Just keep them coming. Win the Tech game and the SEC against Alabama and they will line up.

Georgia will lose 18 to 24 players because of graduation , not given another scholarship or Juniors going out early. We will have 7 to 9 enroll early, January 2013. That means the number we can sign will be 33 to 37. This could get interesting if the commit list get’s to around 34 or 35. Richt has avoided all the grief some of the other coaches, like Saban has been getting about grey shirting but with Richt being pressured to get his recruiting numbers right , a grey shirt or two this year is not out of the question.
