JaQuay Williams: Auburn WR commit to make official visits to UGA and Texas A&M

JaQuay Williams, the state’s No. 1 prospect at WR last year, will take official visits to UGA and Texas A&M over the next two weekends.

The 6-foot-4, 210-pounder from Sandy Creek High School signed with Auburn last February but fell just short of NCAA requirements. Williams is spending this fall at Virginia’s Fork Union prep school and is planning on enrolling at a four-year college in January.

Williams is still officially listed as an Auburn commitment, but – like many other recruits pledged to Tigers – still looking at other colleges due to speculation over Gene Chizik’s future at the SEC school. Auburn is 2-8, and the school president issued a statement that the football program will be evaluated after the season.

Williams will fly to Texas A&M this weekend and then take an official visit to UGA for Georgia Tech game. Williams and his family have also been in contact with Oklahoma State and Florida, among other schools, but haven’t set up any more trips.

“We’re in the process of doing that right now; we’re taking things week by week,” said Kevin Ofchus, who is both JaQuay’s uncle and legal guardian.

What about UGA? The Bulldogs made a serious run at Williams last year after extending a late scholarship offer. Williams took an official visit to UGA last January and heavily considered switching to the Bulldogs over the final days before deciding to stick with Auburn.

There are a couple of more things in UGA’s favor this time around: UGA has an established quarterback in Aaron Murray who is expected to return next season, and the Bulldogs have a commitment from one of JaQuay’s closest friends (Sandy Creek DB Shaq Wiggins).

“Obviously, Georgia is a solid program with a good history,” Ofchus said. “They’ve got a good offense, and another good thing is that they’ve got a strong running game. That always helps because it takes pressure off (the passing game). They do a lot of good things over at Georgia, and they’ve got a good staff.”

There’s also the possibility that Williams could sign with Auburn again.

“Auburn is still in it; Don’t count them out,” Ofchus said. “There’s so much in the air right now that no one really knows what is going on over there. Right now, it’s a very iffy situation; there’s no decisiveness. No one is coming in and saying ‘Yeah, this staff is going to be here next year.’ It’s not like JaQuay will get a second chance to do this. That’s why he has to consider his options.

“If Auburn University comes out and says ‘We’re definitely standing behind this staff, and the staff is going to be here’ … then that’s different. But they haven’t said that. They’ve said that they’re going to reassess at the end of the season.

“JaQuay, just like (other Auburn commitments), has got to make the best decision for himself. He’s got to weigh out all the facts and circumstances. You can only go by what you know. All we know, at this point, is that there’s going to be an assessment by the university.

When asked if JaQuay was still officially committed to Auburn, his uncle replied, “Here is how I would characterize this: I would say that he is looking at this situation just like the university is looking at it. They’re assessing it. The school president and others down there, they are assessing the football program. JaQuay is doing the same exact thing. The big difference is, they can make a change at anytime. But once JaQuay makes his decision (and enrolls in January), he can’t make a change. When he goes to wherever he goes, he’s going ‘all in.’ He just wants to have as much information as possible before he goes ‘all in.’”

Williams is ranked as a 4-star and the nation’s No. 3 prospect out of prep schools – regardless of position — by 247sports.com. He is projected to impact player next season as a college freshman.

Stay home young man and represent for your OWN Community and State! You’ve been through this before your senior yr in hs, so it shouldn’t be that difficult of a choice. You see with roster that UGA is establishing, therefore you will heading to one best program in the Nation! STAY HOME BRUH!!!

We are losing several WR to graduation Marlon Brown and I think T. King? There is great opportunity for JaQuay at UGA.

IMO, JaQuay better player in high school than Calvin Johnson. That said, not near as smart. Hope he chooses wisely this time around. Wonder how Will Adams feels after he followed JaQuay to Auburn and now stuck with perennial loser…

Great opportunity to play early with Brown and King leaving this year. Mitchell and Bennett will be Jrs and Bennett is coming off an ACL tear.

1st off a close friend of mine linked to Auburn Alum said that theres alot of people trying to oust Chisnik eventhough they won the National Championship 2 years ago. Bickering and fighting amongst one another.
After the end of the season youll see Chisnik fired more than likely with those recruits scrambling to get any offers to jump ship.
Everything right now is on the bubble but if i were a recruit , more than likely id go elsewhere because of the turmoil.
Getting a new coaching staff will take 3-5 years before they start winning again and they could end up sitting on the bench watching the game.
Auburn is sitting on a fault line waiting for a major earth quake to happen.

I doubt it will take Au 3-5 years to field a competitive team. The SEC area is rich in talent and Auburn as always gotten their share. They have a real young team with some decent talent now. Right guy in there wins 8- 9 games year two.

He should get alot of snaps next year if he commits to UGA. Fork Union does a great job of polishing up young players so they can compete at Div 1 football. Recruits alos look hard at the incoming class they will be joining. The Dawgs have alot to offer this year!!!!!!!!!!!

Texas A and M, could also look attractive to this young man as well. Their QB is up and coming although, he is more the attraction than a part of a uniform offense. A and M’s fortunes lie on his shoulders. I am sure though, that a good WR could fit in there as well.
If Murray does return for his senior year, he would also fit in nicely with the UGA offense.

Man, have you guys seen Alpharetta’s QB, Joshua Dobbs? He’s already passed fpr like 3,500 yards. But it doesn’t matter to Coach Booboo and the Dawgs. They made their mind up to take Brice Ramsey BEFORE this season. “Hey Dobbs, Hey Anthony Jennings. We’ve already made our minds up. Your effort and performance on the field wiil do NOTHING to change that.” Whatever happened to competition? Booboo and Richt have apparently eliminated it. It’s damn UN-AMERICAN. These kids were raised to believe that their efforts would be rewarded. “May the best man win.” Apparently that holds no weight at good “OLD” Uga. Anthony Jennings clearly outperformed Ramsey in the Elite 11 regionals. Hell, he won the damn thing! Ramsey didn’t place in the finals.”Sorry Anthony, that doesn’t matter.” It makes you wonder what Booboo’s true motivation is in selecting Ramsey over Dobbs, Jennings, Jonathan McCrary, and Nick Marshall. What is this, 1950? Richt constantly sings the praises of this guy bobo. but I’m not so sure that he, and those like him up there in Athens, aren’t the real reason y’all haven’t won a National title in like, forever.

Hoping he has had his feel for being away from home and will make the decision to stick with GA this time around. I’d have to say that AU is too riskey and is out based on the problems this year and question on future coach……

Comparing A&M and UGA, ….A&M has had an exciting first season in the SEC….. but the pro style offense at UGA would favor a WR and future pro career. Uga has sure put it’s share in the pros recently. Have a chat with Hines Ward, AJ, and MM…. I’d think he wold have a great shot at starting or significant play time in first year with TK and MB graduating….

I know I am partial to our in state school but all things considered…. UGA would appear to be the best choice.

Chizik was an odd hire for AU to begin with, if not for buying Cam, if you want proof looked at the condemned church that got remodled, he would have a losing record at AU. AU’s WR coach is one of the worst coaches in the NCAA, want proof of that watch them play, poor routes, poor blocking and can’t catch. But everyone is “all in” and “one big family” at AU right? Wait until after the iron bowl and see how that works out.

Auburn doesn’t have a QB worth mentioning right now. I would imagine soon to be without a coach. ~If the kid wants to develop into a NFL caliber WR then he needs to go to UGA. And yes, UGA does well with WR’s, QB’s, TE’s, etc.

JUCO WR Jonathon Rumph 6′ 5.5″ 220 lbs Holmes Community College MS (Cayce SC) is set to make his announcement on Wednesday 11/21. Rumph took his last Official visit 11/03 UGA vs Ole Miss game. Rumored to be between Mississippi State or UGA.

Only so many 2013 UGA ships left to hand out… UGA currently sitting at 27 committed recruits on board with a target of 34 or 36 maximum ships to fit into the 85 allowed… leaving 7 or 9 available.

Recruits still on UGA’s recruiting board:

OT Laremy Tunsil 6′ 6″ 295 lbs Lake City FL (Columbia)

DT Montravius Adams 6′ 3″ 290 lbs Vienna GA (Dooly Co)

DL Toby Johnson 6′ 5″ 310 lbs College Park GA (Hutchinson C. C. KS) (EE)

APB Alvin Kamara 5′ 10″ 192 lbs Norcross GA (Norcross)

OG Tyrone Crowder 6′ 2″ 315 lbs Rockingham NC (Richmond Co)

CB Brendan Langley 6′ 1″ 180 lbs Marietta GA (Kell) (EE Dec Grad) * committed to USCe

WR Jonathon Rumph 6′ 5.5″ 220 lbs Cayce SC (Holmes C.C.) (EE)

WR Ja’Quay Williams 6′ 3″ 205 lbs Fork Union VA (Fork Union Military Academy) (EE)

ILB Reuben Foster 6′ 2″ 228 lbs Auburn AL (Auburn) * committed to Auburn

DE Robert Nkemdiche 6′ 5″ 260 lbs Loganville GA (Grayson)

CB Mackensie Alexander 5′ 11″ 175 lbs Immokalee FL (Immokalee)

CB Riyahd Jones 6′ 0″ 185 lbs Columbus GA/Carver (Garden City C. C.) (EE)

Other names that have floated by and probably now off the board- RB/S Ashton Shumpert, OT Trenton Brown, RB Tyren Jones (Bama commit) RB Greg Bryant,

Not enough room for all of these players… and I am sure Mark Richt is holding some silent commits back for NSD… just like Christmas… can’t open all of your presents before that special day or it wouldn’t be special!
