UGA secures its “Backcourt of the Future”

UGA signed two basketball players on Wednesday, the first day of the NCAA’s early period: 5-foot-9 point guard JJ Frazier of Glennville, Ga., and 6-4 shooting guard Juwan Parker of Tulsa, Okla.

“We needed to add more backcourt players and I am excited to add these two guards to our team,” UGA basketball coach Mark Fox said in a press release.  “Both are the type of student athletes who will be successful at UGA.”

Here’s some information on both:

  • JJ Frazier: He is beginning his senior season at Faith Baptist Christian Academy in Ludowici, Ga.  He averaged 26.2 points, 4.9 assists, 5.4 rebounds and 3.1 steals per game last season for the Crusaders, who won 33 games in 2012.  The 5-9, 160-pound guard is considered the state’s top prospect at his position in the Class of 2013. Frazier played his AAU basketball for the South Georgia Kings program from Hinesville, Ga. “J.J. is a quick and dynamic playmaking point guard,” Fox said.  “He has the ability to create plays for himself and other people.  I really like his natural instincts for the game.”
  • Juwan Parker: He is currently a senior at Booker T. Washington High School in Tulsa.  He averaged 20.5 points and 9.4 rebounds as a junior at Washington, which won Oklahoma 5A state championships in his freshman and sophomore seasons. The 6-4, 190-pounder is rated the nation’s No. 30 shooting guard prospect by Scout.com, No. 39 by Rivals.com.  He was named the 2011 Player of the Year in his home state by the Tulsa World, as well as a two-time Tulsa World All-State pick, and also twice a “Super 5” selection by The Oklahoman newspaper. Parker’s older brother Jason starred at Tulsa from 2000-04 and was coached there by current UGA assistant Kwanza Johnson. “Juwan is a very complete shooting guard,” Fox said.  “His ability to shoot and score will be welcomed on the wing.  I feel good about the versatility he will bring to that position for us.”

Meanwhile, the UGA women also signed two – 6-3 forward Samantha Glodis of West Palm Beach, Fla., and 5-7 guard Sydnei McCaskill of Orlando.

  • Samantha Glodis: She is from Dwyer High School and rated as the nation’s No. 18 post prospect by ESPN’s Hoopgurlz. As a sophomore, Glodis averaged 7.2 points and 12.3 rebounds and helped Dwyer’s Panthers to a 22-7 record. As a junior, she averaged a double-double of 10.2 points and 10.4 rebounds as Dwyer finished 23-5. “Samantha has outstanding potential as a power player,” UGA coach Andy Landers said in a press release. “She has a prototypical body for the position, runs well and has the ability to score from both inside and out. She is someone who I think has a bright future at Georgia.
  • Sydnei McCaskill: She is from Dr. Phillips High School and is rated as the nation’s No. 86 overall prospect by ESPN’s Hoopgurlz. She has led Dr. Phillips to consecutive Florida state tiles. The Panthers captured the 6A title with a 30-2 record during McCaskill’s sophomore year and won the 8A crown in 2011 while finishing 29-3. McCaskill was named all-state by the Florida Association of Basketball Coaches as both a sophomore and a junior. ”Syd is a crafty point guard with excellent transitions skills and instincts,” Landers said. “She’s no stranger to success as Dr. Phillips is one of the most outstanding high school basketball programs in Florida. Syd has been a big part of their recent success and we’re excited she’s coming to Georgia.”

I really like CMF, but from the looks of the team so far this season, it will be a long season. Fox needs to do a better job recruiting higher rated players. He is not trying for the 5 star players. All the 3 stars and under. This is not Nevada, this is the SEC and the way he is recruiting, UGA will be at the bottom of the SEC for a long time. Fox has to bring in more talent. UGA cannot compete with the likes of Kentucky, Alabama , Duke or any team as of now. Patience is getting thin with his recruiting style and it is showing on the court.

Not only is his recruiting terrible they are a boring team to watch. Marcus Thornton was a 4 star and has gotten worse at UGA

wha happened to the dwags on monday? did you guys get caught watching grown men waddle?

i had to look long and hard to even find the results. they were on page 5. ashamed are we? if my team got beat like that at home by a div 2 team i would be ashamed too.

last time i looked the dwag got beat on their home court by the penguins and it wasnt even a close game. the dwags closed the final score when the penguins put their scrubs in.

68-56.

at least mtsu is a div 1 team. no so for those nasty penquins.

looks like you got got the top pg in the state. funny that. we got one of the top pgs the entire country AND his brother a 4 star a kentucky transfer too boot.

look for the jackets to perform a ugag beat down soon. i heard that mayhem miller will be there to cheer us on.

2 in a row the dawgs are ho’s

our new pg plays ball above the rim as he is a dunking machine… neanwhile your new recruit will be playing with all those ‘balls’ closer to the floor if you get my drift.

That team UGA put on the court the other night couldn’t beat some of the State high school teams. Pitiful, 3 0f 24 in the 1st half on field goals? I would bet that preseason #1 Indiana is really looking forward to next Mondays game against UGA. Their bench players are excited, as they will get plenty of playing time in this one. I have been supportive of CMF before now, but this team looks really bad as they probably have only one player on that team that would be starting on any other team in the SEC., From this start, looks like a very long season for the Dogs.

This coach and the product he puts on the floor is a total embarrassment to UGA. I’ve said all along this guy is a joke, he can’t recruit, and he is a terrible game day coach. But since McGarity likes the direction of the program, what do you expect. McGarity is the biggest problem UGA athletics has right now. He is nothing more than a yes man to Adams, and he will take the UGA total athletic program to an all time low again this season. Men’s B.B.and Baseball will once again be at the bottom of the East, and yet nothing will be done by McGarity. McGarity=Mediocrity!!

Someone said Fox needs to recruit more 4 and 5 star players. Why in the world would any such player want to go play for a bad team in a bad building in Athens with the stands half full? No reason to think uga will ever be a good BB program..it is where coaches go to die.

Disappointing recruits, disappointing start to the season. Ive been a Fox fan, but I expected recruiting to slowly pick up. It seems to me that he has just thrown away next years recruiting class. He’s not even trying to get any of the top talent in the state. HIS DAYS MAY BE NUMBERED.

UGA plays # 1 ranked Indiana Monday; I have about as much of a chance to swim the English Channell than that team has of beating the Hoosiers, and that’s provided I learn to swim today.
